NEWSPEAK 101

This headline indicates that the flu wiped out the birds, but that’s not true. They were deliberately culled. Why make it sound like something else when it is clearly not? The reporter never even mentioned it so I had to find another source.

So far, the bird flu has mostly been a problem for birds. It’s not the disease that’s killing most of them, however — it’s their owners.

When chicken, turkey, and egg companies detect one infected bird, they kill the whole flock in an effort to slow the spread of the virus. And they’re doing so using a variety of excruciating methods, including spraying birds with a suffocating water-based foam or closing off barn vents to raise temperatures so the birds die by heat stroke, a practice called ventilation shutdown, which can take 1.5 to 3.75 hours to kill them.

Egg Prices Soar As 10% Of Nation’s Hens Wiped Out By Devastating Bird Flu

Food prices are rising across the U.S., but the latest sticker shock at the supermarket is in the eggs and poultry aisles, as the deadly bird flu wreaks havoc on the country’s egg-laying hen flock.

Inflation data tracked by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics found a dozen of eggs jumped 23% in April compared with the month before to $2.52. Prices reached levels not seen since early 2016, a period that followed the highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak of 2014-15, which led to a 50% increase in egg prices in the second half of 2015.

Since January, the outbreak has spread to 32 states, killing more than 37 million chickens and turkeys. Of that, 29 million egg-laying hens have died, or about 10% of the U.S.’ total flock of 300 million. Bloomberg says the bird flu is “shaping up to be the worst outbreak of its kind.”

“When the outbreaks first started, the jump in wholesale values was being driven primarily by demand, as there was a bit of panic and short covering going on in the marketplace. But at this point, so much production has been removed from the landscape that it’s more of a supply-side issue,” Karyn Rispoli, an egg market reporter at commodity research firm Urner Barry, told CBS News.

Breakfast has become the most expensive in years. It’s not just eggs, orange juice and wheat prices are also soaring.

Egg prices could be headed higher as there are no indications the avian influenza spread is under control. This is just another sign that food shortages could get much worse in the second half of the year.

Up in the place we call canadatraz, the bird flu is identified using… Pcr tests.
I’m in the Fraser Valley outside Vancouver and most of my neighbours purchase feed at the hardware store that must by law, take addresses of anyone who buys poultry feed.
Numerous folks have had government folk show up and offer “free” testing to ensure they don’t get a fine if their birds come down with the flu.
None of the purebloods have complied, while every farmer on the milk boards have culled their backyard flocks to avoid challenges to their quota licence in the future.
It’s gonna get worse, longbefore it gets better, it’s gonna get worse.

That is my concern too. How long until The Man is poking around in my yard checking my chicken tractor. My birds are almost 5 years old and still lay almost everyday. It’s amazing how mush healthier they are when they get fresh vegetation and bugs instead of being confined to a 2×2 box.

They are coming to home flocks as well, and can demand that you kill your birds even if one bird in the area (a very loose term) tests positive per their useless PCR test.

Makes me want to switch to hogs, they hide evidence better than chickens

Those Bastards!!! Bird Flu Bullshit! Culling the herd is helping cull the human herd with the jab and manufactured famine.

Backyard ducks. There, I solved it.

Chickens are tropical in origin and not well-suited for most of the US. And I find they don’t forage as well.

Plus any type of poultry operation with healthy practices is very hard to pull off at industrial scale.

So why are we crying about lack of access to nutrient deficient eggs from sick, tortured chickens?

Right on the last sentence. Two days ago we were lamenting the loss of Demon Semen posing mothers milk.

Re: Chickens not foraging as well as ducks. Depends on the type ore breed of chicken and forage available. For my money it’s hard to beat a barred rock for rustling it’s own grub and being cold hardy.
Cold hardiness is more of a feed factor than chicken factor. Wrap a pound of suet in 1″ wire mesh and hang it in the coop in winter to heat them up.

Fleabaggs, do you know a breed that forages well that would be better for warmer climate (7b)? It dips below freezing occasionally for a few months, but not by much. Forage is abundant.

Yes. A word of caution for real hot climes. The larger breeds can really struggle in the heat. Brahmas, Orpingtons for two. I would try those that you see most often in your area if they are out in the yard or pasture. If you don’t wait too much longer you could order a straight run assortment of dual purpose breeds from New england. Sounds funny but New Hampshire Reds and any of the Rocks Buff, Partridge, and Barred, Rhode Island Reds, would give you good vigor and rustling ability and the large combs help keep them cool. Never mind the exotic new colors like lavender and blue etc. They may be fine but are too new for a ETOW scene. The Partridge and Buff rocks are good broody hens for replenishing the flock. All three are dual purpose so they have a nice carcass as opposed to the specialized layers like leghorns. They are also calmer but New Hampshire Red roosters are all man and will get aggressive which is good for your needs.
I’m sure you’ll get plenty of contradictory opinions but if they didn’t come from somebody who has a lot of experience with chickens use caution. I was born on a chicken farm and also always had my own little flock and later in Mt. had plenty of chickens over the years. Even exotic show chickens with five foot tails.

These are the only guys selling a large selection these days. The industry has changed since they became fashionable with the yuppy farmette crowd.

Tractor Supply is still selling them. Feed stores too. IMHO, you can’t beat red-sexlinks for laying. They are from Barred Rock x RI/NH Red cross. Dont care for Black Sex-links. They lay well but are more prone to escape, wandering off, and poor manners.

When I move south I’m going to get Delawares.

I was not raised on a chicken farm and will admit to not knowing shit, but I’ve had no problem in a hot as fuck place with larger breeds after the first few years of keeping them, and they tend to be nicer for free-range because they are less likely to get where they don’t belong.

I would avoid the ‘reds’ at first, especially if you are getting them from a farm store that doesn’t care what they are selling you. And the sex-links. There is no point to it on the small scale.

The Malignant overlords are evil and want to cull those they deem useless eaters. God has another plan, according to the book of Genesis. Claim it and take action while we have the opportunity to do so.

We spent the weekend at our remote property continuing our off grid “shed” build with my husband and his son. Started a compost heap for a future garden. The property is in a valley, so drainage is an issue, we have learned. Since digging drainage outlets, our trail cams have captured so many critters drinking from the drainage stream, that we believe it might be seasonal. We’ll see.

We saw 2 male Cardinals chasing each other, fighting for a female that was also present. We observed them circling at least 4 times where we were camped.

Nature wins, and God wins. Stay strong.

If Aldi had a deal on “bird flu” chickens I’d be all over it. Prepping. Come to think of it, yesterday they had ten pound bags of leg quarters for $5.50. And ostensibly free range eggs for $2.49. (The eggs are allowed to walk around.) Maybe their suppliers are complying with USDA rules like German energy companies are complying with sanctions on Russian gas.

Aldi eggs … the mass produced crap from sick, tortured chickens … were $1.15 two months ago. They are now $3. That seems much more than 10% higher.

Is there a ventilation intake at the Capitol building? It’s going to be a typically hot summer. Just saying.

I do not believe for a moment that there is a bird flu pandemic right now.
I do believe this is yet another of a long line of lies meant to distract from the disaster the overthrow of the elected President and the manufactured covid scare.

I don’t know if it matters that the genetic mutant abominations that are commercial layers are barely more intelligent than grass. The colorful breeds are completely different.

I find confinement operations to be abhorrent, regardless of species, though. I am probably one of the few ag oriented people that thinks California’s new confinement animal regulations are not a bad thing, even though every national and regional ag organization is opposed. People can find room in their budget for healthy, sustainable, ethical food. Or they could if the government wasn’t shoving both hands in everyone’s pockets as Rome burns. I would prioritize nutrition over The Electric Jew, myself.

I agree. Especially about confinement. A chicken coop in my time was not really confining but these new yuppy coop designers need to be shot. Half don’t provide roosts or windows. As a kid the south face of all coops was wide open and covered in chicken wire. Confinement then meant sickness. If you use the deep bedding method in their coop for when they aren’t out in the yard and in winter it builds up and produces vitamin K that chickens have a vital need for. Something forgotten but we knew it.
