Taking it back to ’78. Turn up the volume and enjoy.

Lots of good tunes in ’78 and it was the beginning of the disco era with the release of Saturday Night Fever in ’77 sending the Brothers Gibb to the top of the charts with several tunes
Also one of my favorite Seger tunes – This one more recently with Bob and Jason Aldean
https://youtu.be/2LXkEjvn2hs
Aldean sold his soul to the NWO when he let them play recorded auto gun fire over his stage speakers during the fake Las vegas shooting. Fucking punk.
Night Fever.. What a track. Immensely talented songwriters. In the section before the chorus, they took four bars of the drum track and made a tape loop of it. They used that loop for the drums in “Stayin’ Alive” and “More than a Woman.” Still my favorite track from Saturday Night Fever is the best disco song ever recorded, the epic 11 minute “Disco Inferno” from the Trammps.
We’ll just have to agree to disagree. I thought that I was living in a musical nightmare. A painful low ebb in rock. To me it was so devoid of good fresh rock and replaced with Disco, that I started branching out to groups like Weather Report and Grover Washington, but I did discover Bob Marley, Jeff Beck, and one of my favorites: Van Morrison. Oh, Dire Straits, also one of my favorites, so it was all worth it.
And Jackson Browne
And Little Feat. 🙂
I enjoy lots of different music genres and especially enjoyed the disco days as a young newlywed. My wife and I would spend a lot of nights dancing to the music and enjoying the lights.
I, too, like Van Morrison and Dire Straits.
Hmmmmm…..,what did James listen to that came out in the 78 era……..?
If not for you, I would have posted it.
Thanks.
The last album with original lineup, was actually for me a tie with Tommy for favorite album by the band:
Incredible saxophone.
Saxophone player never got paid.
Baker Street was a good one. For me, 1978 was about the worst year in music, at least from 1965 – 1992. Not much I like from that year. This isn’t to everyone’s taste, but here’s my submission:
Frank Zappa SHEIK YERBOUTI
Alice Cooper FROM THE INSIDE
Peter Gabriel II
David Gilmour I
Richard Wright THE WET DREAM
Rush HEMISPHERES
Feb 1978
It doesn’t get much better than Van Halen + David Lee Roth.
I saw em as opening act for Sabbath in Cape Cod Coliseum/Sabbaths last tour at time with Oz.
Saw em again next year VH2 as headliner Cape Cod Coliseum, good times!
Best album 1978, The Cars self titled.
Oct 1978, released live. Actually 1977.
Nov 1978
Released Jan 78.
Cal Jam II
Sep 1978
Here’s ABBA in Japan in 1978.
While not a ABBA fan always kind of liked Waterloo, that said, this is all video tied in with recorded performances:i.e. mtv ect.,not live
Even though the album came out in November 1977, this was big in 1978 and my all-time favorite Clapton track. Fantastic guitar work and a great boogie groove.
And another lost favorite from that great year, 1978.
I saw The Sweet in the 70’s,they opened for Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow with Dio(!)/then was Atalanta Rhythm Section(weird but it worked)and show closed with the classic Foghat!
Me favorite Sweet song was Foxy(on the run).
I will again thank and remember me dad,he got me tix to so many shows with best seats in house thru the 70’s for me and friends.I grew up in a rich family in a great town but a lot of folks had limited funds, why me dad always got 4-5 seats so could go with friends,as time passed on bought tix for friends meself for shows, knew they could not afford so just said drive me home sober ect. so they did not think they didn’t deserve tix ect.,was just trying to pass on me dads good actions.
Me dad was a classical music nut and a great pianist who was told he would never be a pro at piano, his later wife a classic musician in a well known orchestra said he got screwed,eh…….
Me first show as always was Tull when I was 12(thank you weekend babysitters!)which set me off on concerts/in a band for a time ect.I have had the luck to see over 600 shows thru 5 decades, but……,me dad gave me the keys/motivation to do it all musically!
Thanks dad,RIP.
Baker Street is a song I will listen to no matter when it comes on. Gerry died far too soon. What a voice, and what a songwriter.
I remember folks talking about Baker Street before I heard it,was like, that came out 3 years ago/then,I heard it and realized I was wrong, that said, this song is a classic!
Here is why I was at first confused:
Seems Baker Street a popular place for many!
I realize tis a long song,but…..,at least give it a few minutes from the 11:50 mark, would have loved to been at the party pictured!
Right. But 1975.
LOL@Foreigner.
Actually, they were damn good live, especially their first album tour.
No one posted The Clash? what’s wrong with you folks? Lightweights!
Yeah, that was breaking ground. Rock the Cashah was pretty edgy at the time. Lou Reed also. Never liked the Sex Pistols or Iggy Pop. Miss the MTV videos. Now its nigga 24/7. Fck dat.
You have to admit Sid Vicious screeching “MY WAY” at the end of Goodfellas was awesome.
Marty Maraschino…
PleasureOhm, thanks. I never understood the spiritual significance of that tune till you posted the version with the closed captioning.
