Target Slumps Amid Growing Inventory Glut As Consumer Spending Continues To Shrink
Unlike Walmart, whose stock yesterday soared the most in years after reporting solid earnings which beat (repeatedly slashed) expectations and even raised its (dismal) guidance, following not one but two kitchen-sinking earning warnings, its top bricks and mortar competitor, Target, did not fare quite as well and its stock slumped after the retail giant reported profit which badly lagged Wall …
I have a very different take on Target’s slump in sales. Unlike those at Target headquarters, I have no stake in satisfying the demands of the central bankers that control the cash flow and therefore have no obligation to pretend that their foolish policy decisions serve some greater purpose.
Here are five reasons that Target is suffering from this slump, none of which have to do with lack of consumers for their goods.
#1- In 2013 Target was so careless with its customer’s financial data that it exposed 40 million of them to a hack that allowed complete access to their personal and banking information. 40 million, the largest hack of its kind. They were sued and eventually settled with attorneys in 47 states to the tune of 18.5 million dollars, with a net payout to defrauded customers of approximately $4.25 each. It would be hard to imagine a bigger fuck you than that paltry sum, but wait for #2.
#2- Disastrous bathroom policy. In 2018 Target made the insane decision to placate (allegedly) a minority of shoppers so small as to be statistically insignificant, thereby alienating the vast majority of their shoppers by allowing men to enter women’s restrooms. The message they sent was that it was open season on females by any predator who had access to a Target.

Target is facing widespread outrage and calls for a boycott after a man exposed himself to a girl in the women’s bathroom of one of its stores.

#3- In 2021 Target management made another foolish decision to alienate at least half of their shoppers by removing a popular brand item from their stores, not due to customer demands, but because they hated Donald Trump.

#4- Their Covid response.

While the Wall Street Journal may have lauded their heavy-handed response that further alienated anyone who failed to cow to the Covid regimes, customers stayed away in droves. Hence their catastrophic decline in profit and market share. Treat whatever customers who stuck with you during the child assaults, credit hacks and political advocacy as if they were pariahs for failing to muzzle themselves and follow arrows on the floor and you can almost guarantee a drop off in brand loyalty.
#5- BLM. During the opening salvos of the George Floyd riots, a Target in Minneapolis was, excuse the pun, targeted by looters and arsonists who first emptied the store then burned it to the ground leaving over 200 Target “partners” (employees) jobless. How did they respond to this crime against their company? Why by donating 10 million dollars- more than half of what they paid to the customers who had their personal information stolen by hackers- to BLM.
Nowhere in this article was even one of these items referenced for the continued slump in Target sales for reasons I do not have to explain to anyone with two eyeballs and a heartbeat. Target is a joke of a company, built on impulse buying by women to obtain cheap goods from a rival nation who cares nothing for their customers beyond the bottom line. They don’t care if your information is stolen, if your daughters are molested in their restrooms, if they ridicule your political beliefs or even if criminals burn their stores to ashes as long as they can continue to promote an ideology that runs contrary to at least one half of the nation in which they are headquartered. In fact, whenever they are given an opportunity to turn their floundering ship around, someone high up in the organization steers the vessel towards the rocks.

Walmart is in rural America because of a deal it made post-9/11 with the DoD where any store in the USA can be taken over by our military and used as an operational HQ. The company has received billions from this contract and offsets the marginal profits received from many of these stores. They actually do take a few stores every year – as a training exercise – and clean them out and then the Army moves in and sets up shop.
But the bigger picture is that we are supposed to have something called Posse Comitatus Act that prevents the US military from operating on home soil. So the very existence of this contract is against the act. And, what are they planning with so many stores (i.e., potential military operational HQs) across rural America?
BTW during WWII Sam Walton was the guy that built and ran the US network of concentration camps housing mainly Japanese Americans but also Italian and German Americans as well as German PoWs stateside. So we have a network of military operational HQs spread across the USA posing as Walmarts that were started by a guy that built and operated military prisons.

The problem is the vast majority of these large corporations are woke now. A few years ago I’d stay away from businesses that featured interracial couples and kids on tv. I really don’t give a shit who you marry, but it was obvious that they jumped the shark by requiring almost every couple to be interracial. I thought it ridiculous and not reflective of our society – a lie. I’ve been around a bit and travel. I don’t know one white/black couple. Rarely, if at all do you see them when out in the world. But because Nike or some such corporation started this nonsense a decade ago, they all must do it to keep up. It’s ingrained now.
Net earnings were just $183 million, compared with $1.8 billion a year earlier.
I’m no math whiz, but that seems like a significant decrease.
Luckily their CEO knows what’s what.

We have not been in a Target since the bathroom thing. We will never go back to Target. Same story with Dick’s Sporting Goods. Have not been there since the gun thing. Never going back there. And, there are others. We do not miss them at all. Plenty of places to shop. The way to deal with the out of control corporations is just don’t ever go back there again.
Exactly my thought as well, about Dicks. I don’t own an AR, but the fact they stopped selling guns on a political ideology, phock em. They can sell sneakers and hoodies to their Targeted demographic.

I stopped shopping at Kmart when they stopped selling guns and ammo. Never set a foot in the stores again. Look where they are today. Good riddance to any store that goes against our Republic and the Constitution.

I would add a 6th reason. They are encouraging their female employees, whatever that is, to kill their babies before they see the light of day and, oh yeah, they’ll pay for it.
After the bathroom lunacy, I vowed never to set foot in one of the deviant stores again. If my wife or daughter ever needed to make an emergency bathroom stop, and Target was the only choice (likely to happen after the sun runs out of hydrogen in another 4-5 billion years), I would immediately declare myself a woman (whatever that is), follow them in, and stand guard at the stall, complete with my CCW. The other four listed reasons, along with many more unlisted ones, are merely large, long nails securing the lid to the coffin of any chance of shopping at this woke joke of a store. Hasta la vista Target!

#2.1 — in November, 2020, Target pulled the book ‘Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters’ because someONE — as in ONE person — complained about the book’s anti-trans stance.
ONE person got that book yanked from every Target store in the United States … but Target changed its mind some months later and started carrying the book again.
ONE person … one hyper neurotic misfit … that’s all it took …

I don’t reward bad behavior and Target displays bad behavior, and bad judgement, at every turn. In my small city there is one Walmart and one Target. Walmart is always busy and Target usually empty. I’ve heard locals refer to Target as the Ladyboy store. People have long memories.

Thanks for this. I didn’t know these things about Targut. And I don’t go to such. But I am a stickler for boycotting these pricks. Gillette will never get one red cent from me ever again. I even research their alternate brands to make sure I don’t buy anything from them accidentally. My action alone is probably inconsequential but I figure there has to be more anal assholes like me out there and in bulk we make a dent.
