UK Energy Bills Expected to Rise 80% in October

Guest Post by Martin Armstrong

The entire West will face higher energy prices due to climate initiatives and Russian sanctions. The British energy regulator Ofgem released a troubling report citing that the average household will pay $4,200 on energy over the next year, compared to the current $2,330 annual average.

The UK raised its energy price cap in April by 54% and is expected to raise it once more this October by 80%. “This will be devastating for many families,” Jonathan Brearley, chief executive of Ofgem, told the BBC. “The difficult news I have to give today is that prices look like they are continuing to rise.” This is a drastic understatement.

An Ipsos poll found that one in 10 people already find it “very difficult” to afford energy costs over the past three months, and two in 10 found it “fairly difficult.” Over a third have installed a smart meter, and two in five have tried price comparison websites to no avail. People are already unable to afford energy costs, and 29% admitted to dipping into savings to do so, while another 15% said they missed payments entirely.

The term “fuel poverty” is now commonplace and is used for households that spend over 10% of their net income on energy bills. The University of York forecast that two-thirds of households in the UK will face fuel poverty by the beginning of next year. Families with children are the most vulnerable. This is a direct result of lawmakers pushing the climate change agenda with ZERO alternative solutions in addition to blindly supporting Ukraine at the expense of their own people.

In ny state where hochul mandated all new builds use heat pumps. Did you know all heat pumps require backup heat? We use everything. Propane stove and fireplace, oil radiant boiler for in floor heat, electric baseboard and the most efficient two head heat pump money can buy. On a side note, my buddy switched to coal heat last year and went from 700 to 80 per month to heat his place.

Hey, freezing to death is good for the planet. Watch your little ones shiver in the corner and thank your overlords for the great job on saving the earth, as they sit in their mansions with the heat set at 30c with windows open for that summer breeze effect, dreaming of new way you can do your part to save the planet. A whole new meaning to the term “Stay Frosty”.

Shocked Europeans Post Astronomical Energy Bills As ‘Terrifying Winter’ Approaches

According to Caroline Abrahams, charity director of Age UK, “‘It’s a truly frightening prospect and one that most could not have prepared for, and never expected to face at this point in their lives,” adding “I think a lot of older people will be utterly bewildered that it has come to this and will also feel badly let down, and I can’t say I blame them.”

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Twitter researcher ‘Crab Man’ (@crabcrawler1), who compiles deep dives on a wide variety of topics (and is absolutely worth a follow), has put together a lengthy thread of similar cases – and put it in the context of the current European energy backdrop. The situation is dire, to say the least.

this situation has got me thinking: should I be strategically relocating to an area where living without power is the most comfortable? like a coastal area (above any tsunami zone) – no snow, no summer heat, fish to eat…

my Oregon mountain cabin is currently threatened by the Rum Creek Fire – if it burns, I will do that

We better learn quick from what we’re seeing in Europe. Choices and beliefs have consequences–especially choices in politicians and what they believe.

Doubt if you are going to see many people freezing this winter, even in Europe. The governments will step in at the last minute and provide subsidies to keep the heat going… at least to households.
Small business is the real target of these policies at present. The corporate overlords are going to exploit the present circumstance to eliminate most all small business competition. Big business contracts on multi year basis for its energy, it is the mom and pop operations who are getting wiped out because they are month to month.
The overlords know if they cause massive suffering among the common people, at some point hive mentality will set in, the pitchforks will come out and they will have to run for their lives.
The only way they can survive mass suffering is if they can convince the sheeple it is someone else’s fault, ( Putin did it ) but I am not sure if that kind of propaganda is possible at this point. Not even the idiot democrats are buying that one now.

Autos-da-fe provide plenty of heat as well as light, community involvement and, the big plus, entertainment.

When the British people decide to employ that method to help with their self-inflicted “energy crisis” only then will Auntie give a shit about it.
