Championing the union way of life in Jersey – isn’t that what Stucky is doing?
There are some of us living in Jersey who despise the compulsory entrenched union laws. Unions seem to be a symbiotic political kickback machine that benefits union leadership and politicians, something that isn’t in the best interest of the financially captive employee.
I used to be part of a Teamster local. If you wanted voting rights you were compelled to increase individual contributions beyond your basic dues to gain the “benefit” of voting. I never bothered to show up for union meetings regarding medical benefits or other work issues because it was an outright “pay to play” racket that didn’t interest me – that, and meetings would typically deteriorate into selfish shitfests of argument among members, something I’d get from those who bothered to attend.
Ultimately, union weakness and management’s contempt of their reps and workers drove me elsewhere. I resigned and quit working that job after having my contract permanently modified without my consent. I was without work for about 3 months, but the next job literally doubled my pay.
That said, I still despise unions, especially the Teamsters.
