I saw The Swinging Erudites open for The Fools at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom. I think it was the keyboard player, she was wearing a black spaghetti strap dress. One strap broke. I kept waiting for the other to let go, but I was disappointed.

I saw Jonathan Richman solo acoustic at the Iron Horse in Northampton, MA. in the Eighties (and Elizabeth Cotton there, too, at 90 years old), and manned the WBCN listener line a few shifts a week for most of 1988.
