Jorden Peterson had a guest on one of his shows that talked about primates taking territory. They would raid other chimps territory always in a group of eight, isolate one member, four would hold each limb individually, and the other four would inflict moral wounds like tearing off genitals, biting, tortuously killing the victim. All this for no apparent reason not taking females or food or anything and just going back to their own territory. But, as he explained, if they ever did want to go into that other territory for food or whatever, no one would ever challenge them again in the other troop.
