I just visited a childhood friend I had not seen in 25+ years. It was fantastic to see her and catch up on the last couple of decades.
However, it was a bizarre journey into the “ultra modern”. Alexa everywhere and controlling everything. Even the fucking shower, TV, coffee machine, lighting, AC, responded to voice command. All the appliances talked to her phone, and often. The security cameras alerted her phone if a bird landed in the yard. An endless “Alexa, do this” all weekend. When Alexa was not interrupting to say “I didn’t understand that”.
And she had to check her phone every time it dinged. Must have been over 100 times in two days.
My phone was in my suitcase, except the two times I needed to make a call.
She had no understanding of what she was doing or concerns about using it. NONE AT ALL.
Sadly, this seems ‘normal’.
