The lasers aren’t the problem, target acquisition is the problem. Hypersonic is, well…. fast. Think of hitting a .223 round in mid flight with a .22 round. You may have more success taking the shotgun approach, but thats a lot of lasers, a web of lasers would be required. It could be done of course, but here’s the rub, your gubment would have to be committed to defending you in the first place. Something tells me that’s the least of their concerns.

Russian hypersonic missiles are so fast and so maneuverable that nothing can react quick enough to get a fixed bead on it. It would be like trying to swat a mosquito with a whip. This has been shown in Ukraine, despite what we are told. They have to send more to replace the ones that no longer exist. This shocked me but if they need replacement they are no longer functioning.
first off theres the matter of a target covering thousands of feet a second….. then even is there was a power source with the wattage to power a pentawatt laser 10 to the 8th watts is like an entire nation or huge city.
then there is the problem of the object needing to be hit by the laser . even at the speed of light you have to know where the object will be for a long enough time to cut the case of the missile and damage it. so even with a fast enough weapon its hitting such a fast moving target esp when the cloud of plasma ahead of it shields the missile from radar and other waves. the only way to beat the hypersonics is to now piss off the russians because once deployed theres little chance of stopping them all…furthermore they have a torpedo that when deployed in the ocean will send a several hundred foot wave outward washing out the cosast on all sides with contaminated water leaving behind trans uranic compounds that have thousands of year half lifes rendering the land useless for a quarter million years.
