I’m passing judgement here bc judgement deserves to be passed: you had to be extremely stupid to go to DC at all on that day, let alone go anywhere near the Capitol building.
“Naivety” isn’t an excuse; adults who deal with adult situations in their everyday lives should be able to sense a trap and avoid it. It didn’t help that Trump got all of them to come to DC that day, which was the most stupid/naive move of all… but people really have to use their noggins and natural instincts to avoid traps. This trap wasn’t difficult to ascertain.
Yes, Americans have a (theoretical) 1st Amendment right to assemble, to protest. But they were dealing with people who just blatantly stole an election and were in the process of getting away with it. Did they think they were just going to allow them to exercise their constitutional right to assemble and protest outside, then inside, the Capitol without feds instigating chaos and violence?
Did the people who decided, “Let’s go into the Capitol building and walk around draped in the American flag and take selfies after a riot just took place” really have to be told it wasn’t a good idea – regardless of them being allowed in by the cops?

In defense of the People going to DC to protest. IMO, people knew there were going to be FBLiars infiltrating the crowds. I don’t think they believed there would be any issues with attending as the numbers were pretty big, safety in numbers. The govt would dare arrest and prosecute large numbers of people who weren’t violent or destroying anything. And, if they get arrested then the courts wouldn’t allow them to be held without a trial. Yes in hindsight, foolish thinking knowing what we know today but these were fellowmen that were willing to put actions to their words.

Respectfully disagree. Trump was exercising the sixth clause of his 1st Amendment right to “to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” The downside as I see it with hindsight is that it literally scared the piss out of federal employees. Former FBI agent George Hill admits this.
The Capitol is OUR house and we had every right to be there. Yes, some morons walked through there, but most of those were connected to the federal government.
Yes, they had the right to be there, but just because someone has the right to do something doesn’t necessarily mean it is a good idea. I didn’t know for sure beforehand that it was a set-up, but I did know that at best it would be a monumental waste of time. Nothing productive would become of it. And, as it turned out, it was a set-up. But I still haven’t figured out if Trump knew that at the time. If he didn’t know that then he is just guilty of being stupid (of course we already knew that). If he did know that it was a set-up then he is obviously guilty of more than just being stupid.

Conservatives are THEORETICALLY allowed to protest under the 1st Amendment, but in the real world of today, they get arrested on false charges, and their protests often get infiltrated by fed agents provocateur – such as Ray Epps – who start trouble that can then be blamed on the conservatives.
The Capitol “police”attacked those people long before Trump finished his speech.
