Two Election Cycles To Flatten The City™
The hardest thing is seeing younger types be so defeated and so passively acquiescent to the conditions they find themselves in. I’m no superstar performer, but I was first homeless very young, due to family dysfunction (and again a few times subsequently), though it was decades ago, with America much less widely destroyed.
There were far fewer of us, but we also mostly were not this level of mess, except for the loons who’d been ejected from closed mental institutions. We’d sleep largely out of sight, not leave a mess, often keep semi-clean, sometimes work a bit here and there, etc. It is amazing, too, how much food Americans toss into dumpsters, BTW. There were fewer compactors then. I recall taking a warm cheeseburger with one bite out of it from a McDonald’s dumpster somewhere around Santa Cruz, CA in the late Seventies or so.
There were also kind strangers – again, before this level of societal destruction and its ensuing sympathy fatigue (and more widespread financial destruction than now). Two generations ago there was that much less erosion of the family, the communities, finance, education, industry, social norms, etc. I’ve been awfully alone, but never totally disconnected; maybe a bunch of these folks really have nowhere to turn.
One very together older hitchhiker in Houston on I-10, who was traveling with his dog, which he said helped, not hindered, rides availability for him, gave me a fistful of broccoli and raisins – and $3 – over an hour’s take-home pay @ minimum wage in the late Seventies. I ate like a pig off of that: a big pack of enchiladas to roll up a couple of big cans of refried pintos and shredded cheese and tomatoes and lettuce and avocadoes and hot sauce. Inflation via Federal Reserve orgiastic CTRL-P is an enormous crime.
There was a lady with a farm stand in AZ right at the Cali border who was selling ginormous pink grapefruits @ 3 for 25 cents; I had 24 cents in my pocket. She made me keep my money and gave me a sack of the grapefruits, several giant Medjool dates, oranges, and other stuff, and sent me on. I could go on for paragraphs on many other fine people and prices and conditions, but these defeated ones should not inspire contempt for them, so much as for the system that’s created them. And it’s spreading. We mustn’t be smug, like the cloistered prince and his guests in Poe’s “Masque of the Red Death”.

Believe it or not, there are now sections of Ottawa, Canada that look just like this. From Nicholas Street just north of Stuart St. down to Besserer, along Besserer to Cumberland, down Rideau Street to King Edward Avenue, and along King Edward to the ramps over the interprovincial bridge is Zombieland. It’s only about a mile – I call it the Methadone Mile.
This is a white collar government town with no collapsed manufacturing sector nor any economic hardships – the government and its employees have all the money! It inexplicable, unless you recognize that the various levels of government subsidize failure just to produce more of it, i.e. “safe” injection sites, no removal of tent encampments or enforcement of any applicable bylaws.
Still doesn’t compare to East Hastings Street, Vancouver. Look up that one on Streetview – starting at the Main St. intersection.
Psalm 91

I have claimed Psalm 91 (and the blood of Jesus) the first time just before I was injected with adrenalin directly into my heart in 2012 (I was 62) by EMT…my blood pressure was so low they had no choice…two hours later (to the shock of the EMT team and the witness) I was home laughing in the mirror.
Anaphylactic Shock…we have come to know one another well.
Three times since…just before I was forced to inject three different EPI pens into my thigh…with my wife watching…I claimed the blood of Jesus and Psalm 91…and three times since I have gone to sleep that night in sound thankful prayer…in perfect health.
I do not fear physical death…I do fear Spiritual death…but that was settled long ago…so I’m good to go…whenever He decides.
A lot of us have physical Psalm 91 experiences…but of course it is Spiritual as far as the end of the beginning.
I used to go to the church that Jack and Peggy Joyce Ruth pastored. Lovely people.

Was in OKC recently and totally amazed at the number of zombie homeless people hanging around every overpass on I-40. 40 years ago I worked on the west side of the city near I-40 and never would have guessed it would be this bad. My son says it is because they legalized marijuana and too many people spend everything they have on getting high.
Everywhere we went, the smell of mary jane was in the air and you could see people sitting on benches and in their cars getting high. Truly a sad state of affairs.
Give them the vax in addition to whatever else there are using. Wouldn’t want to get covid.

This is Western Civ committing suicide, which is the only way it can die.
This is an absolute tragedy. These are humans made in the likeness of God, and they are someone’s daughter, son, brother, sister, even mother or father. They deserve better, and, in the society we have, it is inevitable that these failures will happen.
But, having said that, God gives us free will. We choose our lives, and have to deal with the trauma that comes our way, our own excesses, and the fallout from the bad choices we make. Time marches on, and if you do not choose to recover from set-backs, you will not.
There are some decisions from which one can never recover, some self-inflicted damages that one can never repair. Very few of us, all the readers of this blog, and the zombies on the streets of Philly, will have the strength to renounce sin, turn away from temptation, do the good, and reject the evil. That is the human condition: The road to perdition is wide and many take that way. The road to salvation is hard, and few endure it to the end.
If you doubt me, go take a look at Friday Fap. Many of the most self-righteous among us ridicule any criticism of using women as objects for our private “release” sessions. Women who are again, daughters, sisters, mothers, and so on.
We all have to do better. The question really is who will?
Will you? Or do you have some gut-reaction or excuse that “prevents” you from doing better?
