Badlands – Springsteen

I know Springsteen has aged into a far-left establishment shill who fell for the Covid scam, got his jabs and boosters, and is now clearly vaxx injured, as he had to cancel his world tour because of “illness”. During the covid scamdemic he made his audiences prove they were vaxxed, and then had to cancel multiple concerts because band members tested positive for covid. He and Neil Young, the anti-establishment bad boys during the early 1970’s, are now a laughing-stock to any critical thinking person who didn’t buy the government and media propaganda about a non-lethal flu bug.

Be that as it may, Springsteen’s 1978 album – Darkness on the Edge of Town – is my favorite, probably because most of the songs are dark and angry, matching my personality. Times in this country were not good in the mid 1970s. A president resigned over Watergate. Inflation was raging due to central bank and government incompetence.

The OPEC oil embargo due to the U.S. support for Israel created supply shortages and long lines at gas stations across the badlands of America. It seems support for Israel hurting America has been a constant theme over the last 50 years. As a 12 year old kid, I remember waiting in those gas lines with my dad. There were no smart phones to kill the time, maybe just my latest edition of Sports Illustrated to read.

The four lines above from Badlands pretty much sum up how the world works and how it has always worked. Everyone on this earth has 80 to 100 years, if they are lucky, to make their mark. We know a virtuous decent person would just want to work hard, earn a fair wage, marry, raise honest upstanding children, teach them morals, be a benefit to their community, and leave the world a better place than when they entered. But we know the forces of evil will not allow this path for most people.

The American Dream was a glorious fantasy, to keep the masses sedated and malleable, as those behind the scenes, pulling the strings of society, as documented by Edward Bernays in his 1928 book Propaganda, would never allow the dream to be realized by most.

“The American Dream is that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement. It is a difficult dream for the European upper classes to interpret adequately, and too many of us ourselves have grown weary and mistrustful of it. The American Dream has always been a fallacy, with a brief period during the 1950s and 1960s where some of the poor were able to elevate their status to the middle class. Since the 1970s, the poor have gotten poorer, even though they have been convinced by their overlords they are richer through the use of seemingly limitless debt. Driving expensive sports cars and living in McMansions while up to your eyeballs in debt is not getting richer. Buying shit you don’t need with one of your ten credit cards, to keep up with the Joneses, while paying 24% interest on the balance is not getting richer. The only ones getting richer are the already rich bankers.

There are many rich men in this world, and they aren’t satisfied with those riches. They want to use their wealth to gain more wealth, power and control over others. Life is a game to many of these psychopaths, and they want to win at all costs. Millionaires want to be billionaires. Billionaires want to be the wealthiest billionaire. And these soulless greedy accumulators of wealth want to be king and rule everything. Gates and Soros are poster boys for Springsteen’s description. They do not want to build a better world. They want to remake the world, unleashing a darkness that will engulf and destroy the planet. These are evil men who have a vast army of equally evil men working to fulfill their satanic agenda.

The gathering gloom you are feeling is real. As most people go about their daily lives, rooting for their football teams, posting drivel on facebook and twitter, buying tickets to Taylor Swift’s concert movie, staring at their i-gadget prisons, and wondering why their standard of living keeps going down, psychopaths in suits are pushing the world toward World War 3. Time to get right with the lord and be prepared for the worst. There truly is a darkness on the edge of town and it is bearing down on us like a locomotive. The dream is real and it should be waking you up at night with a fear so real. Welcome to the badlands.

l played the heck out of my brothers Darkness on the Edge of Town record as a teenager.
I bought his live 4 CD set at a garage sale and it is awesome. Especially the monologue on his being rejected for the vietnam draft for I think flat feet and returning home and telling his dad who he constantly fought with he was rejected and his dad simply replying “good”.

Reading several books about the Manson murders in 1969, and what we’ve been told, especially in Vincent Bugliosi’s book, “Helter Skelter”, were fabrications, lies, embellishments, untruths, and false hoods. This is not to say that Manson and his Family were paragons of virtue, FAR from it, but the Hollywood scene and the music scene, were thoroughly and disgustingly depraved, corrupt, vicious, and absolutely amoral.
And yes, US intelligence agencies were involved.

Cultural changes, protests, and uprisings are not the grass root gatherings of a disenfranchised, disillusioned people, these movements, groups, organizations, (think Antifa, BLM) are ALWAYS top down operations, led by the “elite” of the United States and other nations.

Biblical historians are quite clear on this matter- Early Christians, notably Jesus, Paul, the disciples, and other followers were all convinced that the end of times was near and that an earthly kingdom presided over by Jesus would be established within the lifetime of some people who were then currently alive. The Bible claims that Jesus made the following comment:

Matthew 16:28

“Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

Jesus also advised against going to court against someone who steals from you and also told people not to store up stocks or reserves for the future. Clearly, he thought the end was very near.

Likewise, Paul advised followers not to marry and that the end time was near. In this scripture he obviously believes that some of the people he is talking to will still be alive at the second coming.

I Thessalonians 4: 16-18

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.”

The obvious fact is that the second coming was not forthcoming at that time, or even close to being near. The nearly 2000-year delay is a strong piece of evidence that Christianity is a failed religion.

The following quote from Stephen L. Harris, Professor Emeritus of Humanities and Religious Studies at California State University- Sacramento, completes this point with a devastating argument. Remember that Jesus was a Jew who had no intention to deviate from the Hebrew scriptures:

Jesus did not accomplish what Israel’s prophets said the Messiah was commissioned to do: He did not deliver the covenant people from their Gentile enemies, reassemble those scattered in the Diaspora, restore the Davidic kingdom, or establish universal peace (cf.Isa. 9:6–7; 11:7–12:16, etc.). Instead of freeing Jews from oppressors and thereby fulfilling God’s ancient promises—for land, nationhood, kingship, and blessing—Jesus died a “shameful” death, defeated by the very political powers the Messiah was prophesied to overcome. Indeed, the Hebrew prophets did not foresee that Israel’s savior would be executed as a common criminal by Gentiles, making Jesus’ crucifixion a “stumbling block” to scripturally literate Jews. (1 Cor.1:23)

True Story: Star Date 1975
I was a junior in high school and working at a gas station in So. Cal. during the oil embargo. Going by the the first number on your license plate you could only buy gas on a matching odd or even day and their was a $10 max limit you could buy.
The person that I had replaced (who had been fired) still had his Texaco shirt and hat. There were long lines going down the street and this guy (out of our view) with his shirt and hat on, went down the line and in order to “speed things up” collected cash from people and wrote down how much they had paid on a generic receipt and told them to hand it to the attendant when they got to the pump. Jeff Beck could play just as well but was a different style, not as much minor pentatonic blues style, like Clapton. Gotta’ throw SRV in there too.

Trying to recall how the “oil embargo” gasoline rationing worked in Texas. I remember gasoline went to 50 cents per gallon. Not recalling exactly , I believe the same system of odd or even at least in the DFW area. I was driving a VW bug and I think it got over 40 MPG. Still 50 cents for a gallon of gasoline was a shock.

I know for a fact that there was no shortage of oil back in the 1970’s, only the perception of an oil shortage that led to higher priced gasoline. How do I know this? Because I witnessed an attorney whom I personally knew selling tankers of oil as fast as he and his partner could possibly sell the tankers that were stacked up in the Gulf of Mexico to offload their oil cargo. I spent years trying to figure out how he got to do this. His brother was high up in Louisiana politics, so I wrote it off to this. However, when this man died, his obituary stated that he was a Knight of Malta. Go figure.

…kinda new to The Bible. Believed “120 yrs”, as mentioned in Genesis. Thought that was the allotted timespan for the longest.

STILL an ‘ify’ proposition for me to analyze/interpret, but i think the 120 yrs in Genesis was actually the warning until the Time of The Flood, according to the reference i use almost exclusively.

“Genesis 6:3 “And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also [is] flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.”

“My spirit shall not always strive with man” is a reference to the Holy Spirit striving with, in the sense of judging or convicting, mankind for its sinfulness. Man was given 120 years after this warning, before the judgment of the Flood actually came.

God set a specific time limit before any penalty would occur in order to give humans a chance to repent. This principle is used repeatedly, such as when Nineveh was given a period to repent before any judgment was rendered (Jonah 3:9-10). This time span allowed the ways of righteousness to be preached (2 Peter 2:5), to the people while work was ongoing.

The Holy Spirit played a most active role in the Old Testament. The Spirit had been striving to call men to repentance and righteousness, especially as Scripture notes, through the preaching of Enoch and Noah (1 Pet. 3:20; 2 Pet. 2:5; Jude 14).

“Hundred and twenty years”: The span of time until the Flood (1 Peter 3:20), in which man was given opportunity to respond to the warning that God’s Spirit would not always be patient.

Christians, to be absent from this body, is to present with the Lord. What a wonderful homecoming we have. This world is not our home. We are but passing through.”

If I live another 10 years, I’ll recoup my lifetime SSI deductions and be 2x ahead on that, too.

Was in MBA Skool 74-76. In 73-74 gasoline surged from 21-22¢/gal to 35ish. In some states you could not fill up, based on the last digit on your tag -“Even” & “Odd” alternated days.

No jobs. Pumped gas, changed oil & delivered home heating oil, plus handled some office clerical to make ends meet. And, the economy did not recover until 82-83.

High school in the early 80’s and you could get a 6-pack and a 75c pack of Marlboro’s and get some change back from a $5 bill.

These items are not scarce or harder to produce now, they have devalued the purchasing power of our money that much since then.
Everyone would pitch in a buck and we could ride around or take a road trip with $5 of gas in the tank.
These things are at least 10x the cost of back then but my first job I made $38k and I can tell you I don’t make even 5x that amount now so costs have gone up more than twice as fast as my income has in the past 40 years.

Growing up in fairly rural new England in the 70s and 80s I must admit I grew up on the Boss, Melloncamp and Neil Young. We rode our 3 wheelers, dirt bikes and snowmobiles in the woods drinking beers, having fires and listening to those great tunes. I separate their ridiculous politics from their music. My grandparents owned a couple small gas stations with service and repair bays. They always had plenty of gas for my dad’s Road Runner and all his buddies muscle cars. We stopped in after hours, unlocked the pumps, filled up and gave my grandad the IOU.

Springstein and the obnoxious Neil Young have always been promoted by the MIC. Neil Young had no interest in the peace movement like the rest of his heavily promoted folk artist brethren (Dylan included) during the Vietnam war era, sidelining the real peace activists. Springstein has to be the most overhyped rock star of all time. His 4 hour concerts include a couple of half decent songs. Neil Young is notorious as one of the most selfish and disagreeable people in the music industry, an industry filled with obnoxious ego maniacs.

Lou Reed’s reputation made Neal Young seem like an angel sent from God…but I liked his music.
My former wife was an accountant for The Hollywood Bowl back in the 80’s and we had free tickets for a ton of shows and sometimes could hang out backstage.
Van Morrison, Elvis Costello and Morrisey (the singer from The Smiths) were disgusting assholes that really stood out.
Joe Cocker, Rod Stewart and Tina Turner were super nice normal people that really stood out.

If what they do is beautiful, inspired, uplifting, informative, revelatory, unique or in any way an expression of truth, who cares what the person is like or what they think? You gotta separate the art from the artist or you’d have nothing to listen to or look at.

Neil Young’s contributions to music are stellar; great lyricist, awesome guitarist and in a very strange way a unique voice. Springsteen not so much, although he certainly knows how to tell a story that while often depressing are equally poignant and touching.

Music aside I am really enjoying these shorter pieces, Jim. Concise, every bit as brutal as the long ones, and nearly perfect illustrations of the mechanics of what’s wrong with our time and place.

I think allowances for the foibles of artists can be made, or an understanding that you won’t understand them, if they are sufficiently great.

But Neil Young? Maybe it’s a generational or regional thing, but I’ve never personally known anyone who gave two shits about him, or Springsteen, or most of the others mentioned above. Certainly not enough to overcome these last few years (not that any normies gives two shits about that either)

Thunder Road is a lyrical master piece. Ole Bruce was a good writer, but I was never much of a fan. Neil Young is not only a great lyricist but much of his music is enjoyable and I am a long time fan. As HSF said, I still enjoy the music in spite of the politics, I just ignore their babblings on these things.

Another great read right on the mark. I also like the shorter pieces as much as any of the others. Thanks Admin!

I have not watched main stream media since the mid 1970s. Not because they HAVE ALWAYS BEEN LEFTIST – ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE BEEN. I was new to my career in my later 20s after the military. I had a job working with people where all day everyday I was dealing with major problems. I realized after sometime – going home and watching the “news” was just too much negativity. So I stopped – you know – I feel like I HAVE NOT MISSED A THING – actually it has been a benefit to my life. I would listen to snipet on the radio, and read the local -yes liberal newspaper – major events I would tune in to MSM but that is all for the past 50 yrs. Now I barely turn on the TV ever too much trash!

Sometimes you read like a split personality. The segments reminiscing about the American Dream are spot on and wonderful. Then you drift into your anger and hatred. The American Dream was and remains real. Even today, good people can better themselves, be faithful to God, raise good children and have a good life. You are certainly correct that there are evil powerists trying their best to ruin life for everyone but themselves. Part of the American Dream is to have the opportunity to fight them every way, every day. Just because there are bad people, and there always have been, doesn’t mean the whole country, or traditional western culture, is thoroughly rotten to the core. From Adam and Eve good people have had to resist evil ones and the devil too. The greatness of America is that it created the best system to do that in history. Lighten up on the country, the gloom and doom, and the negativity. We still have a chance at the Dream. The game isn’t over until its over (Yogi was a genius).
