Has Wokeness Killed Disney?

Disney/Marvel’s new movie “The Marvels” is embarrassingly flopping its way through the theaters right now.  There are a multitude of reasons, but the foremost is, it is even too Woke for the Wokesters.

Disney’s troubles started a few years ago, when they unwisely bought the “Star Wars” and Marvel franchises;  at the time, both were hot properties.  Some in the industry looked upon these acquisitions incredibly:  why would a studio with its own built-in core of characters pay billions for other peoples’ works?  Disney had always traditionally been an innovator, one whose movies (like 1982’s “Tron”) were unique and iconic;  but as the market changed in the ’80’s, when family-friendly films were no longer profitable because of a shift towards more realistic, violent fare, Disney was becoming irrelevant.  Their stockholders were cashing in, and Disney was losing too much.

Fortuitously, Pixar, a computer animation studio originally begun by George Lucas’ Lucasfilm and then later spun-off, with the majority of its funding coming from Steve Jobs (who became its majority shareholder), came along in 1986.  Disney eventually bought and used Pixar’s image computer and design software for their new Computer Animation Production System (CAPS), which they used initially to eliminate the tedious hand-cel inking and painting of their traditional animations to a more automated method.  (The first movie using this method was “The Rescuers Down Under,” in 1990.)
Also fortuitously, about this time Disney was experiencing a comeback, with “The Lion King” and “Aladdin” being smash-hits in 1991 and -92, respectively.  Pixar, on the other hand, was not doing well;  in 1991, it had to lay off 30 of its approximately 82 employees.  In a move which probably saved the company, Disney made a three-picture deal with Pixar for $26 million, the first of which was 1995’s “Toy Story,” which was a massive blockbuster.
Friction between the two began soon after, with the upcoming “Toy Story 2,” in 1999.  Originally intended to be released straight-to-video, it was decided during production to be released in theatres.  However, despite this upgrade Disney refused to allow “Toy Story 2” to be counted towards their three-picture deal, since it began as a straight-to-video movie.  This rightly incensed Pixar.  Negotiations soured, and from 2001-05 Disney failed to make a new deal, with Steve Jobs himself declaring a cessation in late 2004 (and stating his dislike for Michael Eisner, then-head of Disney).
After Disney ousted Eisner in September, 2005, its new CEO, Robert Iger, eagerly reopened talks with Pixar.  Extensive negotiations followed until on January 24, 2006, Disney bought Pixar for $7.2 billion dollars in an all-stock deal:  2.3 Disney shares per Pixar share.  Their partnership enriched them both.
With their animations once again topping the box office, Disney turned their attention to their filmed entertainment division.  The acquisition of 20th Century Fox Studios in 2017 (for $54.2 billion) allowed them access to a vast array of live-action characters, whom they folded into their Disney umbrella, and dismissed Fox’s studio chiefs.
However, during this time a radical shift was occurring across the entire film industry:  the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion movement, which we would come to call Wokeness, was inserting its agenda of feminizing and racially mixing once-beloved characters and franchises.  Disney’s embrace of this movement became apparent when they announced live-action versions of some of their previous animated hits, and in these new versions they would include more women and people of color (like “The Little Mermaid” recently).
That decision has proven to be financially disastrous for Disney and Pixar, whose movies have lost hundreds of millions since then.  They had always been a leader;  now they were merely followers, and certainly not staying true to who they were as a brand.  Audiences stayed away in droves when Disney started including gay and bisexual characters into their children’s animations, and during the CONVID hysteria, their non-Marvel movies were tanking, plus they had saturated the market with their Disney + television shows.  They were spread too thin.
Which brings us back to their latest fiasco, “The Marvels.”
Disney’s much-publicized hiring of an inexperienced black woman director/writer, Nia DaCosta, and its all-female, racially diverse cast has met with disaster at the box office, pulling in the lowest numbers out of all Disney/Marvel movies to date.  But just as the media avoids vaccine deaths, they have gone into overdrive to find excuses other than its Wokeness — and the disgust of their target audience has followed suit.  Everything from the recent writer’s strike in Hollywood to reshoots and “The Marvels” being hacked up in post-production is being blamed;  everything but the real reasons, that is.
The consensus seems to be that “The Marvels” was quietly rid of DaCosta before production ended, with reshoots and post-editing trying to salvage the $200 million-dollar mess she made;  this theory becomes stronger when DaCosta herself left the production before post (which meant she had no control over the final cut) to go overseas to begin her next movie, a move many in the industry called curious.  As a result, critics say the movie is choppy and episodic, and the leads are one-dimensional, and the script laughably bad.  Here is an example of its wit:
Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), to Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris):  “Monica, you got to fly!”
Monica:  “But…!”
Nick Fury:  “BLACK GIRL MAGIC, NOW!”
This is what Woke writing skills provide.  Notwithstanding the fact there are no good reasons to have three female superheroes in the same movie — all of whom only recently introduced, in Marvel’s long history — playing a role which was originally male (Captain Marvel), the further point of them only being in the movie because of their races is blatantly obvious.  Moviegoers are sick to the gills with this sort of Wokeness, and Disney has alienated a great deal of their supporters because of it.
So, Disney is in a Wonderful World of misery right now, along with other Hollywood studios.  Their inexplicable decision to taint children’s entertainment with Wokeness and outright satanism has blown up in their mostly homosexual faces, and people are no longer supporting them.  There was really no way this was ever going to be otherwise;  their small minority has had its day.  When the aforementioned writer’s strike was met with the public’s scorn the course was run:  nobody cares about your agenda, guys.
Where does this leave Disney/Marvel?
Immediately, their stock in shambles, but also this puts many of their expensive in-production titles in jeopardy.  Disney/Marvel has already delayed a few of them, such as another “Blade” movie, wherein one writer quit when the script turned to having three female leads with Blade as the fourth character;  another one, the fourth “Captain America” movie featuring a new, black, Captain, is undergoing extensive reshoots, and they are allegedly excising three entire multi-million-dollar sequences already filmed because of a Zionist Israeli character named Sabra who was to be introduced in the movie, for currently obvious reasons.  Disney is quite literally bleeding money.  The next few months are going to be crucial for them, and time is not on their side.
Yes, “get Woke, go broke” has become a self-fulfilling prophecy.  Is Wokeness the end of Disney?

I hope it is the end.
Walt Disney and his company have been brilliantly evil from day one. Finally the truth is obvious for all to see.
And what boy likes watching movies (every superhero) with men in tights??

” . . . what boy likes watching movies (every superhero) with men in tights??”

I would presume the same ones that like watching professional wrestling and circus acrobats, since those are the models for superheroes.

But I note that recently the tights have mostly been changed out for motorcycle road racing leathers. Maybe boys don’t watch Wrestlemania anymore.

Walt would go into anaphylactic shock, over today’s twisted perversions of “children’s” entertainment. It’s truly sickening.

No he wouldn’t. There were articles and accounts written from victims of walts pedo ways. There is a lot of occult symbolism in the animations as well. Walt weren’t the saint you think he was.

Nope. Sorry, Captain, but Disney will survive. They have too much support…from the slaves & the elites.

I know plenty of people who *kinda* think like me and even they still support Disney. They spend a fortune taking their kids to the parks, watching their movies, going on Disney cruises, etc.

Abby- I hope you are wrong. I will pray everyday for their demise, Disney is truly evil. It is your job to thwart evil in your quest to protect the young. Shame those who feed the joos at Disney.

The only people I have known to take their kids on the Disney cruise are limited intels who want a cruise geared toward children instead of adults. Most cruises have activities for children but are geared toward adults and alcohol consumption/gambling/adult shows. They however no longer take their kids to Disney movies. The losses suffered by Disney on movies now is epic.

Cruises will not keep Disney afloat, pun intended.

TN- I’ve seen a lot of YT’s that show very small crowds at the parks in some of the most popular areas. Is that opinion or do you have current stats ?

I believe you to be very smart also, but have you forgotten Disney pushes the LBGTQXR….crap?

We found the Disney cruise experience with the grandkids fun and enjoyed the absence of cigarette smoke and too much drinking. Even went a second time on our own since we had the flexibility to shop for highly discounted tickets; we managed to avoid most of the overly kid activities, though were happy to see those families having lots of fun with their kids.

What changed it all: Star Wars. At least half the cruises became some variant of a Star Wars special with exorbitant take-it-or-leave-it pricing. Not our cup of tea.

Not at all unlike the fate of many a once good company that finds it is increasingly tough to keep growing after having lost its original innovation and goodness. Think about it for a few minutes and you may be able to list a dozen or so companies; maybe you even had a career with one. Been there/done that.

“What sort of name is Pfeiffer . . .?”

German occupational.

” . . . Pesmen-Rubin Commercial Art Studio . . .”

Interestingly, the Pesmen family of Kansas City were the only Pesmans in the US in 1920 and it is currently extinct. Must’ve had daughters. Can’t find anything else about it. That suggests a made up at immigration name.

Disney has always produced moronic garbage and always will. The American psyche has been polluted by Disney’s schmaltz and cliche from the start. Really, who thinks Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck are funny or clever in any way? They suck and they always have, like all the Disney trash I was forced to watch when I was a kid because it’s “wholesome”. Oh, no, the new Marvel movie is lame. I got news for you, they all are. Ol’ Walt was first to put his hand up t0 produce propaganda for the government. Their theme parks are soulless and deeply depressing. No surprise Disney is still producing mindless garbage and no surprise that’s what the average citizen wants.
