I’m no longer allowed to help my granddaughter with her math, because I just get her more confused. I learned basic math in the 1950’s, and there is NO resemblance to the shit they teach now. Took her until the beginning of 6th grade to get long division down. I learned it in 4th.
That’s common core for ya – I went to a parent -teacher conference long ago for my daughter, and I told teech that they way they taught it, I would have a difficult time in class too.
Why penalize kids for just knowing it? I was that way as well.
I used to tease my daughter for being bad at fractions, but I understood why.

I spent a couple of hours yesterday going through a trove of family photos and was able to visit with the past. So many good dogs over the years, so many wonderful memories of the time they were with us.
If they’re waiting, that’s close enough to heaven for me.
Ever since I learned the next life is on a new earth, I have been comforted by the possibility the animals will be there too.
I haven’t lost QUITE that many dogs, but that’s what I’m expecting to see when it’s my time, because they will have put a good word for me.

We played basketball in the driveway yesterday and when the ball bounced onto our cat’s grave, our 7 year old took the ball, folded his hands and said “Dear God, may Squeaky have a nice warm window sill to sleep on and many mice up in heaven. Amen.”

I mean I get the bikini tops to keep bulky shirts out of the way, but there is NO WAY that a player said “yeah, shorts that ride half way up our cracks (both sides) are absolutely the most comfortable thing to wear when playing.” I’m not complaining…just wondering.
