We do get lazier as we get older. It’s a strange psychology. We like the concept of having fun on some escapade (as we always have), but it’s too much trouble to bother. But when we do partake, we wonder why we don’t do it more often. I was invited to a London Knights game (Jr. A hockey) last Saturday, and I didn’t want the hassle, but I couldn’t say no. I went and had a great time. Those young hockey players–mostly 17-19 years old–are so incredibly talented, some are can’t miss NHLers. It’s marvelous just watching them play. Hockey is such a great game.
By the way, without the draft, the Make Beliefs would be the best team in hockey. I doubt if any other jurisdiction on the planet contributes more NHLers than Ontario. Kind of sucks that the great majority of our best end up everywhere but their own backyard in Toronto.

both of my parents were from a small farming community in Iowa. My Dad went to college on the GI Bill and he and Mom eventually became suburban-city dwellers, but our family used to take summer vacation back to that farming community in Iowa every year when I was a young kid, as we had a number of collateral family members still living there. Outdoor dinners that looked exactly like that were common and still provide fond memories even as I approach age 70. One thing I’ll never forget, my Dad mentioned more than a few times before he passed that he wished he had never left that small community and raised his family there. And I agree
My uncle had a big brick patio that was surrounded by big shade trees and we had a lot of family gatherings there. Sometimes he would hang a sheet on the house and we would have movie/slide night.

You know what I especially love about dogs? Look at this guy; he’s disabled, but he doesn’t feel inferior, or hard done by, or self-conscious. I see them all the time on the beach – dogs missing limbs, getting on with life. We can learn a lot from dogs.
