Political correctness serves the ruling elite

No wonder the Ruling Elites loves political correctness: all those furiously signaling their virtue are zero threat to the asymmetric plunder of the status quo.

by: Charles Hugh Smith

Note that no actual action is required.
This is why the Ruling Elite loves political correctness: conformity is so cheap. All a functionary of the Ruling Elite need do is utter the code words (“hope and change,” “we honor diversity,” “thank you for your service,” etc.) and they get a free pass to continue their pillaging. The Ruling Elites loves political correctness, for it serves the Elite so well. What is political correctnessPolitical correctness is the public pressure to conform to “progressive” speech acts by uttering the expected code words and phrases in public.

The Pie Is Shrinking for the 99%

The ensuing social disunity and disruption will be of the sort many alive today have never seen.

 by: Charles Hugh Smith.

Social movements arise to solve problems of inequality, injustice, exploitation and oppression. In other words, they are solutions to society-wide problems plaguing the many but not the few (i.e. the elites at the top of the wealth-power pyramid).

The basic assumption of social movements is that Utopia is within reach, if only the sources of the problems can be identified and remedied.  Since inequality, injustice, exploitation and oppression arise from the asymmetry of power between the few (the financial and political elites) and the many, the solution is a reduction of the asymmetry; that is a tectonic realignment of the social structure that shifts some power—economic and/or political—from the few to the many.

In some instances, the power asymmetry is between ethnic or gender classes, or economic classes (for example, labor and the owners of capital).

Joe Billionaire

  • It’s difficult to understand exactly what a billionaire’s spending power looks like in real-life terms.
  • If you scale a billionaire’s income down to median American income of $50,000 per year, you see that $4,000 is about equivalent to $1.
  • On this scale, a year of tuition at a top university costs about $15, and a mansion in California costs about a week’s pay.

The world’s wealthiest are prospering. As of February 2017, there were about 2,000 billionaires in the world. This micro-elite controls over US$7.6 trillion, an increase of 18 percent from 2016.

A billionaire’s spending power is difficult to grasp, both because most people do not correctly intuit large numbers, and because a billion dollars far outstrips most people’s experience.

What does a household budget look like to a billionaire? To find out, let’s scale down a billionaire’s income to $50,000, the median American income, adjusting budget items proportionally.

A year in the life of Joe Billionaire

To start, we need to estimate a billionaire’s annual income.

Does it mean anything to become an American anymore?

How the Left Devalues American Citizenship

I recall two powerful incidents from many years ago when I sang at monthly Immigration Naturalization Citizenship ceremonies in Maryland.  ;After the thousand or more citizenship applicants in the room took their oath of allegiance, the grand finale featured me singing my song, “Celebrate America.”  ;It felt good knowing mine was the first song they heard as new American citizens.

No Resolutions?!!!

By Charles Hugh Smith

Here are some resolutions I’m pondering adding to my daily routines.

Since “We are what we repeatedly do” (attributed to Aristotle), i.e. we are what we do every day, resolutions have little consequence until they become daily habits. With that in mind, here are some resolutions I’m pondering adding to my daily routines:

1. Mourn what is lost but celebrate what remains.

2. Learn from the past but look to the future.

It was just a matter of time

I was wondering when something like this would happen.  A prank turned deadly by using our heroes.

A 25-year-old man in California has been arrested over an alleged hoax 911 call that led to police killing an unarmed man in Kansas on Thursday night, authorities said. Tyler Barriss from South Los Angeles was arrested on a fugitive warrant Friday afternoon for allegedly making the so-called “swatting” call, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

What Would the World Look Like if Christ had Never Been Born?

By Scott S. Powell

For Christians, Christmas is a unique time of joy associated with the birth of the savior Jesus, whose life, death and resurrection makes possible a personal and intimate relationship with God. Jesus was born a Jew, and his teachings were built on the foundation of the Torah and the Old Testament. And so it is that Christians and Jews have much in common and share a natural mutual affinity. Christians and Jews have both faced persecution throughout history, and hostility is again intensifying.

In the Blink of an Eye.

December 20th is a night that will live in infamy. At least until the next infamous family experience, that is. Last night I came within a hairs breath of losing my 18 year old daughter in a traffic accident.

My daughter calls my wife explaining how she got a flat tire on the beltway. For anyone familiar with the Northern Virginia area, that’s 495 I’m talking about.  I get on the phone with her and find out that she is on the side of the road with a cop that is on the scene. Her and the cop are waiting for the state police. I tell her I’m glad she is safe and we’ll see her when she gets home. At this point, what do I have to worry about? She is with a cop and more cops are on the way. 5 minutes later my daughter calls again screaming and crying. Someone hit her car and it sounds damn bad.

Trump’s best counter strategy against alleged sexual misconduct: Scorched-earth political war

Given that the Russian collusion strategy seems to be falling apart by the minute, the only strategy Democrats have left to try and defeat President Trump in 2020 is to push the sexual abuser narrative – which proved to work well for them in Alabama. Democrats saw what political damage this strategy did to Roy Moore in just a few short months, and are confident it will wreak major political havoc over the next few years on President Trump.

Right or Wrong?

Attorneys for ex-North Charleston Officer Michael Slager said he shot 50-year-old Walter Scott in self-defense after the two fought and Scott grabbed Slager’s stun gun. They said race didn’t play a role in the shooting and Slager never had any “racial animus” toward minorities.

Officer Michael Slager was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A white former South Carolina officer was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Thursday for fatally shooting an unarmed black motorist in the back in 2015, wrapping up a case that became a rallying cry for the Black Lives Matter movement.
