Berlin: Mohammed most popular name for newborn boys in 2018, study reveals

According to data released from a study carried out by Gesellschaft für Deutsche Sprache (Society for the German Language), the number one name for newborn baby boys in Berlin is Mohammed.

Over one million Middle Eastern and North African migrants – many with Islamic backgrounds – have entered Germany since Angela Merkel flung the country’s doors open in 2015.

After all of the different variations of the name – such as different spellings such as Muhammed and variants like Mehmet – are counted together, Mohammed ends up ranking as the most popular name for baby boys in the German capital, the German tabloid Bild reports.

Germany: Missing teen girl found dead in asylum centre – African arrested

A 19-year-old native Kenyan with a German passport has been arrested after a teen girl was found dead in an asylum centre near Bonn. Police suspect that the girl was murdered, but need to investigate further.

The parents of the 17-year-old girl reported her missing on Friday. According to broadcaster WDR, she had gone to visit a friend, but never arrived there.

She visited the two-years-older African teenager in an asylum accommodation in Sankt Augustin before her death, a police spokesman said on Monday morning.
