Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday weighed in directly on last week’s wild US media reporting that Russia has obtained “troubling” nuclear capabilities in space as part of a new anti-satellite weapon.

Putin in the fresh statements rejected the entire premise of White House and media talking points, explaining that Russia only possesses space capabilities no different than what “other nations, including the US have.”

The claims about Russian space-based nuclear weapons unraveled to become a joke. Fortunately, the death of Western-sponsored dissident Alexei Navalny then occurred to enable Western media to go into a frenzy of anti-Russia headlines.

First up was the scaremongering story about Russia allegedly developing a space-based nuclear weapon. Initially, it was dramatically trailed as posing a serious national security threat to the United States. Despite the sensational reporting, the story quickly became a laughingstock. Even some U.S. lawmakers dismissed it as “bullshit” and a blatant attempt by the Biden White House and intelligence agencies to push Congress into passing a new mega military aid bill for Ukraine worth $61 billion.

It Is Past Time for Washington to Come to Its Senses

Kremlin responds to claims Russia planning nukes in space

Several US media outlets have claimed that Moscow wants to put a nuclear anti-satellite system into orbit

Western media reports claiming that Russia could place nuclear weapons in space are nothing more than a ploy by the White House to convince US lawmakers to approve further military aid to Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.

Citing anonymous sources, several US media outlets reported this week that American intelligence had obtained information on purported Russian plans to deploy a nuclear anti-satellite system in Earth orbit, although the idea supposedly remains at the developmental stage. ABC News claimed that while the system would not be used to attack targets on Earth, US officials still consider it “very concerning and very sensitive.”
