…A few days ago, my partner in Doom Surly put up an article from Pepe Escobar, one of our cross posting bloggers who covers the Geopolitical scene on the ground as a roving free lance reporter and writer. The article was titled “The Fall of a Superpower”
From the title and given Pepe’s general geopolitical focus, I figured this was going to be about the implosion of the FSoA Military.
Instead, its a Futbol Tragedy from the World Cup, held over the last month or so in Brasil, where Pele once roamed the fields and took on God-like status in the world of Futbol. As trivial as a sporting event might seem given the current kilotons of Death From Above being heaped on the Gaza Strip today, sporting events still capture the imagination and emotions of millions of people, and no matter hwo bad things might be in a given neighborhood, sportsfans will dwell on the fate of their favorite team. In some cases, you’ll even see Cease Fires in ongoing wars when a “Big Game” is on…

I wish people would just STOP with the “Bread and Circus” meme every fucking time someone takes pleasure in some sporting event. It is so damn tiresome.
Don’t YOU have some “distraction” that YOU enjoy? Fishing in your lake? Fixing your bugout machine? Playing cards with your friends? Going to a movie? Anything???? Whatever it may be … and there HAS to be something …. how would you like it if some numskull accused you of being a “bread and circus” moron. Surely, even you can’t be full bore Doom&Gloom 24x7x365.
My own sports watching habits;
—– I watch zero baseball except for the World Series
—– I watch zero football except for the Super Bowl
—– I watch zero hockey
—– I watch zero NASCAR, horse racing (except this year I did watch California Chrome), tennis, bowling, and other sports
—– I might watch a half dozen NBA games during the season … teams that have former IU players …. and then the Final
—– Every four fucking years I pretty much watch every WC soccer match
—– I do watch every game the Indiana Hoosier basketball team plays
There is NOTHING Bread&Circus about that. It provides me SOME pleasure, SOME release, from the daily fuckups in this fucked up world ….. of which I am fully informed.
So, blow me.

Since I don’t follow Futbol, I had zero clue who actually played in it, other than the teams YOU mention in your Blogs. LOL. How did the Iranians do? As Everybody Knows, I am not too big on doing RESEARCH. 🙂
Do I have hobbies? Of course. The latest one is souping up my Electric Wheelz Scooter which was a bitch to get shipped up here, and now is completely unavailable to buy. Even buying spare parts is hard.
On the other Hobby, this week is an absolute Doomer Wet Dream, with Malaysian Planes dropping from the sky and Israeli Tanks rolling over Gaza. Who has time to watch sports with this kind of action going on?
