Because it’s such a welcoming happy place. Just ask Sargent McFucknut and Bobbie Finnegan.

And of course, because we don’t follow instructions very well.

Was I not supposed to comment? 🙂

I have come to this site on a daily basis since 2009 (old-website). I come here for knowledge and entertainment.

I gain knowledge whenever Admin tears apart a financial report (retail, housing) or the employment stats… well… that’s entertaining too… but not as entertaining as “Incredible Sports Moments That Couldn’t Be Timed Better”.

I come here for lots of reasons. First because Jim is a devastating analysis and writer – far better than I am, actually pretty envious of his skills. I like the nut-kicking that goes on in the comments, both for dumbasses touting the party line and also the friendly nut-kicking that goes on among friends. TBP is a hugely important source of information, analysis, and fun.

So why don’t I comment more? A lot has to do with the strong sense of community already in place – seems like newbies get ignored unless they’re outrageous assholes who need to be taken out. Mostly though I’m afraid of getting kicked in the nuts.

Burning Platform is one of 5 ‘ alternative ‘ sites I visit daily ….. the others are Zero Hedge, Mish Shedlock, Dr. Housing Bubble and Market Ticker. There are others, but I believe that these 5 are a perfect antidote to all the propaganda spewed on Bloomberg and Reuters. Note that Bloomberg eliminated the comment boards several months ago because they just couldn’t handle the mockery coming from the battalions of doomers who often see things as they really are.

Best of all , The Burning Platform offers all of its sarcasm free of charge !

I suspect that many non commenters don’t have strongly held beliefs or rather don’t know why their beliefs are held and thus cannot defend them. I know that I can relate to that. The threads often veer in several directions with conflicting and confusing aspects. The Trump threads are a good case in point. A lot to like and admire…a lot to despise…a lot of unanswered questions. Unfortunately many would rather be told what to think rather than think for themselves.

The really cool thing about TBP is the immense amount of world and personal experiences brought to the table. Every visit to this site brings new insights, sometimes reinforcing established beliefs and mores, sometimes dismantling my established thoughts. Always learning and growing. Thanks Admin and all you TBPers who constantly fuck with my mind.

Why? you are anti establishment – you are libertarian ( in the schiff sense) – you make economic sense ( in the Stockman sense) and you are not afraid to offend any group (but rightly so) and do not back down.

Have been reading here daily for about 2 years or more. Little to no censorship is a good quality in a blog. I detest censorship even if what I read sometimes disgusts me it is more palatable than the standard ‘you can’t think/say that!!!’ horse shit found in almost any main stream publication on the web. I always take what I read here with a grain of salt mind you – especially Stucky. He’s a disgusting SOB but entertaining. I think you should probably put him on pay roll if you haven’t already – I’m positive he keeps a lot of us lurkers reading in the comments section. Similar principle to slowing down for a major car wreck…. just my worthless .02 cents….

Also – the site is a good barometer for social and political mood in the USA when read along side a few others. As an outsider looking in it is kinda interesting/fascinating. I often wonder if Admin realizes he is a part of history in the making? I’ll leave it at that….

I am a lurker, I’ll admit it. 03 September, 2015

There was a day, long ago in a galaxy far, far away, I did a search on an article author’s name. The name of some guy by the name of Jim Quinn. The article impressed me by its “headiness”. It had been posted on LewRockwell.com. I was and am a fan of LRC today, however, in some respects it has always been and continues to be a venue of the academe. Nevertheless, in that written entry there was a fine and honed edge that seemed to me to be obvious; Ockham’s razor comes to mind, and more.
So, upon the finding of TheBurningPlatform blog, from time to time a visit seemed necessary. At those times, it was not obvious that the content changed more rapidly as was originally thought.

But, the comments were priceless. Damnation.

If I had to sum up why I am a fan of TBP, the answer would be simple: cognitive dissonance. There are times when an incessant “diatribe” against reason just don’t cut it. In MYH (bloody)O, some people will engage in velliety forever. The dismissal of a moron with a comment of “suck my diseased donkey dick”, is a classic.

So, I’m a newbie, so what?

TBP warms the cockles of me heart.

I check in on my days off (real nurse, actual female) because it helps balance out the drivel we are told by “The News”, by employers (yes, we have actual Diversity Inservices, etc), and the things I can see that the average joe (who comes into an ER, anyway) actually believes. Like “Call her ‘She’, Dad!” actual quote by obviously homosexual son of 80-ish year old patient when said patient was questioning something about Bruce Jenner. Or the many, MANY people who come through ER for problem “for a few years now but I just got INSURANCE (read: medicaid)” and now I can come here for free (whereas me and my coworkers will be charged hundreds of dollars out of pocket to come to the same ER because we have insurance too, and apparently we are supposed to feel good about that) and by the way I need a sandwich and another sandwich and a pop and a cab voucher home. Yes, that’s why I got into nursing…saving lives one cab voucher at a time.

I could do without the “hot chicks” though…it definitely limits my looking at the site to when my kids (too little to read, but still boys to the core) can’t look over my shoulder.

Quality articles, diverse opinions, and most importantly different – best way to stretch your brain is to try to wrap it around a different way of thinking.

Plus the comment section reminds me of a good neighborhood bar:
All the regulars sitting around, rehashing different versions of the same argument they’ve had for years – time to time someone says something insightful between swigs of beer, and sometimes it’s just fun to get one of them all riled up.

Well, since I was recently accused of being a newbie who snuck in a back door without permission (along with Bea so I think that means you get to post here too Bea!!!), I will just jump right in and say that I started reading here when I jumped here from an article on Zerohedge a few years back, perhaps in 2008 or 2009 when I was drinking at a tea party before some goons showed up and ruined the party for me and my friends.

However, we were awake, some of us more than others and my husband an I made serious plans to change our lives. What we read and exposed our minds to was one of those changes. TBP is now one of three sites I read each day when I’m not working on our log home or in the lawn or on the land. Or playing with real BIG DOGS that like me and don’t call me names.

For years I just read articles here, but a couple of years ago, there was an article about USS Liberty incident and I shared the fact that I’d interviewed Captain McGonagle (retired) while a student reporter at college after I’d left the USAF. I considered sharing his story here, but soon after that a really good story about him was posted and seemed to include most of what the heroic Commander had shared with me on my little cassette tape (I’ve since digitized it with help from my rocket scientist son so it is still a possibility someday), so I opted to NOT send Admin or Stucky the tape.

Anywho, I began to post once in a while and with being between two states building a new home and selling another, I kept track of articles on my phone and tablet when I could. Chatted with the “folks” once in a while. Recently got internet connections in our little TEOTWAWKI piece of heaven on earth and survived my first experiece of cyber stalking and namecalling where I was a target. Since the last stalking incident I’d dealt with in college as a teenager ended with a loaded 9-shot 22 revolver in the jerk’s face as his erect penis wilted into his (probably) soon to be shit-stained underpants he’d pulled down around his thighs when he’d locked the door behind us after I’d agreed stupidly to “check out” his frathouse after leaving the local bar and grill with him long ago and far away.

Hopefully, I survived it okay and will live to toss/HURL shit with the other shit throwing monkeys here when the next Robert Finnergans Wake shows up and does what nothing else seems to be able to do… UNITE the regulars here who post in attack mode. Even the Communication Network is well orchestrated with members on patrol in the comment threads ferrying messages to Admin or other Top Level Monkey Organizers about that asswipe from the xxx article is stirring shit again over in the yyy article. Within minutes yyy article dominates “Recent Comments” and the kill is made. For someone who has read enough of the Art of War to understand how tactics of war, being able to even throw one small monkey turd with the TBP mob at Robert Finnegan gave me such great joy that it was worth being stalked and called names (for a while.) For him to launch a negative campaign against the wrong James Quinn in response like getting a present straight from TBP heaven.

But the beauty of TBP is that there really is no censorship. I like that too.

@ CrimsonAvenger says:

I come here for lots of reasons. First because Jim is a devastating analyst and writer – far better than I am, actually I’m pretty envious of his skills. I like the nut-kicking that goes on in the comments, both for dumbasses touting the party line and also the friendly nut-kicking that goes on among friends. {comment by Maggie here.. the nut-kicking is not always friendly and most of us aint friends until the common enemy like old Finnegans Wakeup Shitforbrains or Sgt Fucknut show up… then everyone here puts down the monkey shit sharpens our collective wit for the common enemy. But, we don’t flush the monkey shit … end of Maggie’s comment}

@CA… I survived. You can too. I think you got a lot to contribute. Jump in and I’ll toss you some monkey turds if I see you need some. (Well, if it isn’t ME you’ve disagreed with, that is…) If your comment draws disagreement, you can either defend your stance, change your mind or be silent. If you engage in the disagreement, then you have signalled the STM team that there may be opportunity for shit flinging. Read the Art of War… there is still time to get out at this point, but do so quickly.

@Grog… The dismissal of a moron with a comment of “suck my diseased donkey dick”, is a classic…..

I gotta join ya on that one. Some of the phraseology is priceless. And you won’t get it anywhere else. I guarantee you that.

@Peaceout says:

@Peaceout (by the way… are you newer than me? Oh well, I’m kind of cheating since I just got called a newbit anyway and I feel like doing a summary on this for ADMIN if he wants to use it…. Maggie) You made a very interesting point which I bracketed about bb. Having studied professional storywriting, newswriting, broadcast news, historical analysis, political science and public relations, I THINK I understand a little bit about how to pique people’s interest. Admin knows a LOT about those things too or is intuitive to the nth degree. Or just plain lucky.

@Francis Marion says:

@Francis Marion… bracketed remarks about Stucky are a riot. TJF is right… that is worth at least a nickel.

However, I particularly like your final question.

“I often wonder if Admin realizes he is a part of history in the making?”

Wow. I think you have hit upon a profound truth. I’ve had this same sort of idea about this “place” for a while, as others have, but have not seen it worded in such a simple way that says it all.

Most of us do not “know” Jim Quinn, except for all the dirt Finnegans Wacko dug up on him for us. All we know is he is a real person who understands what we all understand: Something terrible has happened to the country of our youth. He has built a “place” for us to gather and read the real down and dirty news, uncensored and unfiltered. And he lets the people who decide to make comments say what they want to say and never censors any comment for content, just like it should be among adults and, dare I say it, older children who’ve been taught to think for themselves and respect the rules of a civil society.

I think he realizes there is something special about this “place” he’s made. Whether it goes into the history books as something of value to humankind or just a place where a hoard of shit throwing monkeys came each day to chatter about life as we know it on planet earth and on the 30 blocks is something our grandchildren will have to tell us in a séance. For now, it is one of the last places I can go and read the real unvarnished news about what is happening in the world and get some sane commentary from some very intelligent people who refuse to give in to political correctness.

I respect this place and I respect the readers and regular commenters on this place (with exceptions, but will not be a bitch because there is value in all opinions, even if it is only to provide entertainment.) Am I going to join hands and sing Kum Ba Yah with the regulars here? NO WAY. I’ve heard most of them never wash the monkey shit off their dirty fingers even when they eat. I think that every one of us willing to step up and state our opinions on a regular basis are now enemies of the state, but what the hell… they aint no friend of mine anyway.

Now, for the sales pitch. My dear Aunt Martha painted this Turner Landscape when she graduated with her B.A in art from University of Kentucky. It is/WAS called Fire on Kentucky Lake. It could EASILY be known as Flames/Fire on the Burning Platform. So, I think Admin should post my summary of why people love his blog so along with this image and once he becomes a ten thousandaire and can pay his bills, he should see how much money he could raise to offer me a reasonable amount for this ginormous ONE OF A KIND oil painting that is about 3 feet by 4.5 feet (on canvas). While I love the fact that I was bequeathed the painting as her namesake (and no one else wanted had room for it on a wall I guess), I really don’t want to put it on my great room wall. I have other art pieces that I want to put there. So, with a half-kidding smile, I offer you the summary to post and the painting to buy… special price just for YOU, Admin.

I mainly lurk. I went to school in Philly, so I appreciate Mr. Quinn’s insights into the particular pathologies of the City of Brotherly Love. I also vacationed in Wildwood as a kid and his comments and little side-trips down memory lane are priceless.

A lot of us here seem to be in the same, ahem, age group/demographic (angry, aging white dudes). So there’s a sense of community.

But it’s possible we’re all here searching for the lost America of our youths. For brief moments here, we get comforting glimpses into this past among a virtual community that perhaps resembles the blocks on which we grew up.

We can no more recapture this past than we can become young again. Yet it eases the pain of watching all this societal change to at least know you’re not entirely alone.

Why am I here?? Years ago (7 or 8?) I started innocently enough by being introduced to mild ‘survival’ sites and now I have become this full blown Doomer junkie, requiring the kind of ‘fix’ that only a site like TBP can deliver. Also, because I inherited from my mother an insatiable reader’s ear for great writing.

I don’t comment because I’m usually on mobile and it’s a hassle. But I often read the comments and, of course, know who the Big Dogs are. They’ll do more than kick you in the nuts. They’ll puree, eat, and then shit you out in one paragraph! Only on a few blogs out of the UK have I seen people in the comment thread get kicked to the curb this fucking hard. Cathartic for them, entertaining for me. A sincere thanks to Mr. Quinn and to all who make this such a great site.

From Jim’s days of legendary reality posted on “financial sense”, the vast wealth of info in both his articles and all of you here, it is inexcusable that this dead Republic could have such world-class stupid ignorance, but it kist goes to prove that reading (and maf) is hard. That the Good Lord for TBP! You are fighting the good fight.

I found a book my late father-in-law had in his collection, something like,”the 50 most stupid blunders in history”, but. I’ll get the exact name to follow up. I can sum up why I come here in one word: sanity. You guys get it. You see the whole thing going to hell, getting worse each day and how we’re fucked to stop it.

I live not far from Jim. (I’m familiar with the 30 blocks of squalor and the Shamrock. If you’re from this area, your best summer ever was spent in Wildwood. That’s just the way it works.) Where I live is already the bombed out shithole the rest of our nation is soon to become. I’m probably in the worst fucking place on the planet you could be when SHTF. I’m hoping we don’t go full-tilt shitstorm for a few more years, until I can at least move to a better location. But if my luck doesn’t hold out, rest assured that I will plow my car into the biggest pack of parasites I can find before I get taken down. I promised myself that I will at least have that moment. (I’ve practiced standing on the gas pedal on I-95. I’m ready.)

I dedicate this post to Billy because his anti-nigger rants are like a warm blanket to me. I’m all about seeing political correctness crushed. Multiculturism will be the death of this nation, no fucking doubt. King Nig has been standing on that gas pedal for 7 years, which has sped the process up exponentially. We are now fucked to the 12th power thanks to him doubling down on the race card and the ignorance/gutlessness of our populace.

I really think it’s too late to save our nation at this point. I didn’t think we would survive King Nig’s second term and it doesn’t look like we will. Far too much damage has been inflicted. Too many actions that each in themselves could doom us to failure. And he just keeps stacking them up. By the time most people get it, it will be way too late.

generally do not comment, yet this is a cool place, after a time the posters become real people, friends regardless of position. this site is that common denominator. thank you jim,try to send a few bucks in your direction. the very least i can do, even if i am very poor, according to conventional wisdom. i have the best mail box in america, morning glories and yellow weeds covering it all.i am very proud of doing nothing and getting such great results.
