Pictorial News Top 10: Sept 19th edition

Let’s see how this new weekly format/idea works. Lemme know if you want to see this on a weekly (Saturday) basis.

india

When a northern Indian state announced a few hundred job openings for low-level office workers who run errands and make tea, the response was staggering. About 2.3 million people applied for the 368 jobs with the government of Uttar Pradesh. Hundreds of candidates with doctorates and other advanced degrees applied for the jobs that pay about 16,000 rupees ($240) a month and require a fifth-grade education. At least 255 applicants had earned a doctorate and over 200,000 had graduate degrees. At least 30 trained computer engineers were also in the fray. Job creation is an urgent requirement in this nation of 1.2 billion where 13 million young people enter the job market each year.

morton

Goodbye, shitty processed salt! After more than 85 years, Morton Salt will cease its production and warehouse operations at a facility on Chicago’s near north side next month. Morton last year signed a 16-year lease agreement to relocate its headquarters across the Chicago River.

Gen. Lloyd Austin, who leads the U.S. military’s Central Command, told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Wednesday there are only four or five Syrian fighters left out of 54 who were trained as part of a U.S. program.  Cost of this program? FIVE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS!! And you thought hammers were expensive??!

homeless

Welcome to the USA!USA!USA! … slip-sliding away to 3rd world status. The U.S. Census reported Wednesday that 46.7 MILLION Americans live in poverty — defined as a family with two adults and two children with an income less than $24,008. Median income dropped to $53,700.

Above: actual and typical Hewlett Packard worker. On Tuesday HP announced it will cut 30,000 jobs.  That’s in addition to the 54,000 job layoffs already taken by HP and are expected to mostly hit workers in North America. But, they will be hiring thousands of H1-B dotheads. HP now ranks in the Top 30 among all visa sponsors.

The dick-sucker above said if people don’t like same-sex marriage they should buy their coffee elsewhere. Starbucks deeply embraces diversity …. except for employees who still support the traditional definition of marriage. They are openly mocked, ridiculed and labeled as “bigots” and “homophobes” …. before getting fired.  There is only one reason I included this story; to encourage you to NEVER patronize a Starbucks again.

This past week, the WWF and the Zoological Society of London released a report stating that the tuna and mackerel population has fallen a whopping 74% since 1970.  Certain species, such as the bluefish tuna, are on the edge of extinction. I haven’t had tuna in probably two years because I don’t know how close they swim to irradiated Japan, plus mercury issues.  But, if you like tuna, enjoy it NOW, because at current levels of fishing the yellowtail and albacore will be gone in the next decade.

Radiation2-copy

Case in point …. a week ago 82 large bags filled with radioactive waste from decontamination efforts were washed away when a river overflowed in the Fukushima prefectural village of Iitate.  Fuckyoushama continues to be the world’s greatest environmental clusterfuk that hardly anyone gives a shit about.

This one will be devastating to my psyche as I LOVE that store! When, not if, will Barnes & Noble kick the bucket? Investors are dumping shares of Barnes & Noble Wednesday after the bookseller said its fiscal first quarter loss widened to $34.9 million amid slumping sales of books and digital content. The New York-based retailer said its loss per share totaled 68 cents, falling short of 12 cents per-share profit estimated by analysts. Quarterly sales dipped 1.5% to $1.22 billion. In the year-ago period, Barnes & Noble reported $28.4 million of loss. Shares fell 28% to end the day at $11.80.

In the Holy-Shit-What-The-Fuck news category …. tweeting may soon be a capital offense.  Currently, the U.S. Administration is discussing whether to accelerate its use of drones against those who tweet the wrong things. Above, Ron Paul discusses this heinous idea.

EC- Take the Slawson cut-off to the Ventura Hwy, turn left then cut off your Slawson.

Only us older folks remember that schtick Carson did on the Tonight Show.

Loopey= Debbie Downer in this thread.

It is obvious that other people don’t agree with you on manufacturing or tariffs. Just for the record, Loopey I’m not big on tariffs either but you are way off on the manufacturing base.

Stucky- Why does this new format have to be just once a week?

Everyone likes it and I think if you had the time, twice a week would be outstanding as this gives us multiple topics in one thread on which to comment. Just a thought.

Bea,

You want Loopy to change his views to suit the thread? He has always held that Americans want to have it both ways; high paying jobs and world competitiveness. Guess what? High paying jobs attract immigrants and the failure to remain competitive results in crisis, aka, depression.

When government types try to manipulate these things, you get tariffs, welfare, debt, money printing, war, etc..

Building a wall is only another attempt to ignore the above economic truths that Loopy is trying to drill into your thickened skulls.

Me thinks El Coyote was the one who downed your reply.

Stucky- Yes, I see what you mean about the time and the anticipation factor. I just liked having multiple topics…..sort of like one stop shopping at the big box stores.

EC, statement made as a fact, not a putdown, exactly as your andrew jackson statement. What is, just is. I don’t pretend to walk in llpoh’s shoes. He and I have always disagreed on two major points, tariffs, and american workers. We aren’t going to agree, we both know that, so we don’t waste a lot of time beating on those subjects. Time will sort this out.

EC, these aren’t economic truths. They are dumbass Bschool propaganda. Remember, went to Bschool also. I manufacture stuff also. Notice llpoh running for the hills rather than touch the trade deficit and how it destroys our economy

RiseUp,

I can’t let it go, the card the dude has does not have a visible chip on it, the chain doesn’t go to any generator, the antenna doesn’t look like it could work without a power supply – wouldn’t he have some sort of phone uplink and not a simple antenna?

The dude has headphones but no mic, and don’t tell me the headphones are the mic, they don’t look that sophisticated. When I call for tech support, there are many voices; I never hear bleating sheep in the background.
——————-
Coyote, you originally posited this: “Ha Ha, that HP tech support has a security badge but why if there is no building?”

To which I replied that just because he had an ID badge but was not in a building, that the badge MAY have other uses beyond identification and building access, as mine does. I never insisted he was using that ID badge around his neck for anything in particular, or was using it they way mine is used.

Bea, I hardly ever use the thumbs up unless I can’t add to what has been said or I don’t have time to reply. Besides, thumbs down is a weak protest, I’d rather use the fucking taser first than start with a flyswatter of a thumbs down.

Don’t kid yourself stuck. Plenty of stuff the guy won’t touch. I enjoy llpoh, respect his opinions. Some of his beliefs are quite different than mine. So be it. He’s just a guy I banter with on the internet. Don’t bother getting offended for him. This stuff ain’t life or death

News Format News Flash……………….

As reported on Drudge Report today, Doctors are studying children who change from girls to boys at age 12 in the Dominican Republic. As these girls enter puberty they grow a penis and become boys. (Don’t shoot the messenger on this one mmkay). The children from one single village are referred to as the “Guevedoce” boys.

Believe it or not. I’m having a hard time myself….check it out on Drudge.

The point of the last two graphs is 1) personal consumption driven by debt has gone up steadily, and 2) mfg has, save for recessionary blip, continued its upward trend.

My contention is that the excess consumption – debt driven – has shifted to foreign product.

It is the debt driven excess consumption that is the driver of imported goods. People want cheap crap and are willing to pay for it via debt.

Isn’t that swell.

Stuck – thanks for the kind words. I have no major beef with Bea/Star on this. They believe that it is possible to return to the good old days. I believe the good old days are gone, and save for 2 or 3 decades after WW2, the good old days really never existed. The opportunity that presented itself was squandered on personal consumption which took off in the 1970’s (Free Shit is guaranteed for all!), rather than invested for the future.

Unless that is addressed – people determine to live within their means – then there will be no return to the good old days. And people will never decide freely to live within their means.

By the way – thank you for the great articles. You are a true champion.

EC – thank you too. I get great pleasure thinking about Andrew Jackson rotting in hell.

Llpoh, I’m sure your knowledge of manufacturing is noteworthy but I will point out that it was you who started yammering about manufacturing. I simply said (jobs) went to India and China and we have been put on life support. In India a great many of these jobs are in customer service and technical service for the computer manufacturers and also many mortgage companies have sent their c/s jobs to the dotheads. Agreed not all of the millions and millions of jobs we let the TPTB send overseas are manufacturing which I never said in the first place.

Bea – you still have much to learn.

TBP fighting is not about facts! Facts are for pussies!

Jobs are beginning to pour out, for sure.

Recently, I am seeing signs of China beginning to ratchet up prices, now that they have cornered the market in certain areas.

Big corps will not know whether to shit or go blind when that happens. I called this phenomena years ago, but big corps did not want to listen.

Me: “hey, big corp, after sending stuff to China, and losing capacity here, whatcha gonna due when they double their prices?”

Big Corp: “never gonna happen. We can control hem.”

Uh-huh. Oops.

There are many words for penis but gueve is not one of them.
If you are familiar with the breakfast dish known as Huevos Rancheros, you can tell that the H has been changed to a G. A lot of simple folks say ‘guevos’.

Therefore, I surmise the phrase means ‘eggs @ 12’ and not penis at twelve.
It may be these girls do not even develop a working penis.
Makes me wonder how many guevedoces we have here on TBP.

Llpoh- I agree that the ChiComs will stick it straight up the backsides of our corporations at some point. I have not forgotten that these are your garden variety communists and their manufacturing companies are state owned.

I also don’t like the fact that the ChiComs are processing 35% of our food with God knows what kind of deadly filth and chemicals added to it. That is a fact that is for everyone not just pussies as you say.
