Simplified, Rand used Evangelical ideology to promote neoliberalism. And yes, it is like today, not that she was a visionary, but a promoter of it.

Thesis + Antithesis equals Synthesis.

But I hold no ill will towards you, Jfish, have a good evening and when someone wants money from you for God, then ask for Gods address so you can send it yourself.

KB – the Hegelian Dialectic. I get it. But I don’t see how it applies to Ayn Rand, per se? She was a refugee of tolitarian socialism. She lived it and was brave enough to call a spade a spade, to espouse a different way in eloquent manners. Again, I hear you. But I think she may deserve just a little bit more respect then what you are willing to give to her? No biggie! God said $ is the root of evil. But also $ is the answer 2 all thing

Jfish, you yourself, posted above, she was an atheist. And now she is a promoter of Evangelical values?

Money is a construct created to ease trade.

Btw it is the love of money (not usage of it) which buys the woes of war.

Maggie – the actual quote in correct interpretation – is : $ is the root of all kinds of evil.”. But then other parts of the Bible state that $ is the answer to all things. After all, we spend $ to eat & heat our homes (even while we sleep). I was just trying to point out 2 KB that therein lies another “paradox” & that it probably – in the end – depends upon our ‘motives”, ya know? That’s all. Probably time to start this post down. Nite.

Me too. In spite of what El Ciber said – I thought your intentions were good. This Andy Griffith post probably did deserved more attention & I probably would have missed it had you not forced the issue. My – how far this post has come since your “sound of silence” concern. But, if ‘left a comment” is that sensitive, it may have 2 do what does own insecurities. Oh well. Signing off now as “Maggie’s Minion”.

KB – she was an atheist but the evangelicals agree with her on economics & individual rights.

Prosperity, in the times the bible was written, had nothing to do with “dollars” but that your family may grow and your needs be met.

Nothing individual there. Jesus was communal.

Here is the divide between what Rand said and what Jesus said.

I was escorted, miscreant that I am, off the HSF post so that the finer folks could continue the conversation. You make friends with online strangers and pretty soon they are putting conditions on the friendship. That’s where the control starts, don’t do this, wear that, eat this, avoid that.

I left a church like that. I never expected this place would succumb to religion.

Adam was free up until the time he got a wife, then the fucking rules started.

I get what you’re sayin’… Truth is, I am married to the most controlling woman in the world. But she’s a good mom, sexy as hell & I love her with my whole heart. That’s me. We don’t have to agree. Wow, all kinds of shit being thrown around here! Did I hear some jesus freak disparage Ayn Rand? If you let go of your savior on a stick for just a sec I’ll tell you all about Ayn. She was a good writer, not great, but good and she knew how to spin a novel. I’ve read everything she wrote years ago and If I read any of her stuff again it’s definitely Atlas Shrugged. Her logic led her to write about the end result of the evil trends she witnessed happening in the 50’s, and she was dead on.

Of course, she was a hateful bitch in real life with a penchant for odd sexual arrangements, plus she was married to a beta male who was the diametric opposite of the hero males in her stories, but lets not have that color the brilliance of her best work, A.S.

I’m not a fan of fags, but I enjoy Elton John and David Bowie songs. There are other authors who are libtard assholes, like Steven King, but I still enjoy some of his work.

So that leads me to conclude that even though Ayn Rand wasn’t perfect, the woman sure could do justice to a novel. I’m sure her being an atheist has little to do with a True Christian’s (patent pending) opinion of her work. Even if the True Christian (PP) isn’t just trying to get his ticket to heaven punched by slamming anyone who isn’t a believer.

Naw, that could never happen.

#1 I did NOT escort anyone off the HF post. I suggested the banter move to the Andy Griffith thread to stop cluttering up discussion about HF’s post with our banter with Jfish, who may or may not need his ass sniffed by El C-whatevers.

#2. No one can force anyone to do anything. Even at threat of death, because you always have a choice.

#3. I am still in a truce with El Coyote. As for this new incarnation, I do not know.

@Lysander… AR wasn’t the best at storytelling. Her writing is sometimes tedious and too full of explanation and description to be easily read.

However, she understood story and internal motivation because of her life experiences. I think her first effort at fiction, We, the Living, is the closest we will ever get to understanding what made her Ayn Rand.

Bea Lever

December 7, 2015 11:53 am

Maggie- AR was not a storyteller, IMHO. Maybe you have noticed in the past that I have posted that TPTB have a sort of code they follow in order to put a LITTLE fairness in the mix before they screw us over. TPTB will always give you a heads up clue ahead of time, even if it is hidden within a novel or movie even tv shows etc.

AR was a oracle of what is to unfold in our future, PLEASE read “The New Left: The Anti-Industrial Revolution”. Her lectures always centered around that book, she was spot on.

Howard Roark in the Fountainhead represented Frank Lloyd Wright. I suppose real life archetype’s are always flawed. Even profoundly so. But it doesn’t take away from their genius and contribution(s) to mankind. My opinion. An amazing book is “Loving Frank”, by Nancy Horan. It’s based on the actual events when Frank Lloyd right left his family to shack up with the early feminist, Mamah Borthwick. Nancy Horan took 7 years to write it and this book won James Fenimore Cooper Award in 2009 for historical fiction. Talk about literary eloquence. Wowza…

Maggie, EC & me transferred from HSF’s Wasp thread – then – to Andy Griffith vs. the patriot act. If the conversation was not transplanted to this post, I might not never have heard of Face In The Crowd and definitely would not have been able to consider HSF’s comments above , regarding Kazan’s “anti-American attitude” and misplaced legacy.

I suppose it was only natural for this thread to then segue into wrestling with El Ciber and Ayn Rand with KB. There IS a difference between free association and inane rambling. It’s in the eye of the beholder, guess. But no one here is “running for political office or trying to further any agenda, or jam any belief down the others throat. It’s called fucking CONVERSATION!! that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!! later people…

@Jfish… am unsure if you mistook my little Pokes at Wiley Coyote as criticism of yourself. He and one or two others seemed to have taken humbrage at my commenting here and just as he and I had declared a truce, my welcome to you seems to have humbraged him again.

I never thought of Rand as an tool of TPTB. I figured she was the ultimate Objectivist, which suggest self-centered and intent on doing what profited her most. I only mention We, the Living because it tells the story of a young woman who grew up in Russia, as Rand did, in the upper well to do middle class, as her family was, who came back to Russia post Revolution to discover their home, business and possessions had been taken by the State and redistributed, as her family did.

What happens to the young woman in the story beyond that is, I’m sure, fiction, but the emotions come through as genuine and the ending is “right.”

Have a nice day!

Hi Maggie – No worries at all.

I do understand your approach now on We the Living. Thanks for clarifying.

Much to my intellectual chagrin, I don’t remember ever reading WTL or Anthem. I did read fountainhead and AS tho and then I read her biography and even subscribed to her objectivist newsletter back when I was in college many, many years ago.

Anyway – I have been reading TBP for sometime but only “popped my cherry” (regarding commenting) on Saturday. The only reasons I cross/commented to other posts since then & directing the STmonkeys back to this one is because I was enjoying it and I wanted to piss off El Ciber.

I grew up ugly and redheaded so you never have to worry about hurt feelings with me. I am fairly bulletproof. But that said – I will admit to being a freaked out by that “commenting too much / slow down” message that KB, Admin & I referred to above. I was afraid I broke TBP. Guess not.

Later…

Hey, once I post something where it goes makes no difference to me, I’m not possessive. In fact most of the best stuff on this site shows up in the comments section and almost always is way off in left field in regards to original topic.

Jfish, I’m from a family of redheads and dammit, we think we’re good looking no matter what anyone else thinks. Glad you started to comment it’s one of the great comforts in life to know you aren’t the only one thinking about these things.

Anyway, I continued the charade in this thread but I let on I was kidding by comparing Mags to Aunt Bea, the warden. Stucky would have applauded the dualistic performance. Maybe not, depends on his mood.

You’ll have to try harder to piss me off, but one of the best ways to do that is to criticize my syntax.

Teachers can teach you how to write and cooks can teach you how to cook but once you get the hang of it, you have to follow your own path and use words that fit according to your taste and judgement.

HSF described his own development and Montefrio continued the thought. I believe Rick Nelson said that, in the end, ya got to please yourself.
