Am calling it a day to go watch old Sci Fi movies with my beloved Nick and make fun of them. It is Saturday night and that’s what we do for fun.

I asked a couple months ago why kathleen kane was in the news every stinkin day on the npr affiliate here in Pittsburgh, and though there was a lull, the story is now and has been full steam ahead since.

Dear Left a Comment, I believe I inadvertently hurt your feelings when I called this post lameass as joking invite to EC and my newly recruited Trollwarrior to come over here and continue the bickering.
I also like your comments and feel that you contribute greatly. The reason I chose this thread was EXACTLY because I hoped that by bringing our little silly antics here, others might see both the Andy Griffith clip and that fascinating clip you posted as well. As a matter of fact, I plan on getting the Face in the Crowd downloaded tonight so I can watch the whole show/movie. I had NO IDEA. What a great actor Andy Griffith was… but which role was the act?
As for your aspergers/autism? you are way more interesting and coherent than some of the SFMs around here.

Shit flinging Monkeys, of which I am NOT normally ONE, but when some idiot troll* comes on, I will join in with the rest if necessary to get it out.
*EC will be along shortly to correct me on my troll definition, but here goes… A troll is someone who tries to disrupt the discussion or conversation underway on forums and blogs by interjecting comments that are derogatory about the other commenters and have almost no relevance to the issue under discussion. They seem intent on making sure that they take the intellectual fun out of the debate/discussion for everyone by hurting feelings or making someone angry enough to start a shit flinging fest.
EC is in rehab from trolldom and is commenting quite nicely. I’m very proud of his progress and hope this doesn’t trigger a relapse.
MST3K went off the SciFi channel and left us without Saturday morning entertainment. (It came on at 8 a.m. Saturdays and we would have breakfast with our 8 year old son in the floor in front of the TV to riff it with either Joel or Mike and the “bots.”
Favorites? Prince of Space. Any Godzilla riff and Manos:Hands of Fate.

I loved that show growing up and thought that it was the high water mark of what television could be- telling Aesop like fables in front of a camp fire. Values imparted, morality reinforced, kindness and caring lifted up. Those things simply do not exist today. Imagine if it was oriented to the highest ideals, as a means of educating and enlightening rather than debasing and mocking.
I though Face In The Crowd was a horrible movie, but I never liked Kazan’s anti-American attitude. Yes, it’s the down to earth, wholesome country boy who is the evil one, not the proto-feminist shrike played by Patricia Neal whose voice sounds like she licks ashtrays and is about as appealing as Bruce Jenner. The ones who corrupt are seen as the saviors, while the rest of America are just stupid proles to be manipulated and defamed. Griffith was great in that role which was really just a re-tread of Meet John Doe, a much better version.
Kazan was the ur-SJW/communist who hated everything the US stood for- look at his filmography. It’s impossible for me to watch his stuff without feeling just how hard I’m being preached to and manipulated. I don’t think he missed a single one of the Social Justice platforms from feminism/abortion and racism to homosexuality and antisemitism all at the expense of the WASP culture that admittedly was the salvation of the Kazan family when they came as refugees. Nothing but tropes, all of them designed to tear at the fabric of America.
I just don’t get it. Instead of being grateful for their salvation they resent the people who gave them an opportunity to such a degree that everything has to be wrecked. It reminds me of the recent pics of refugees leaving huge piles of garbage in the cemeteries of Eastern Europe as a thank you for the hospitality.
Just imagine what he could have left as a legacy if he had been grateful and held America up for all of it’s goodness and promise.

Anyway — I bow at your feet now madame for seeing that cache of MSTK3 in your doomsday kit.
Several decades ago when I was a young parent we had cable but I rarely watched TV. On the occasional night when my bride would banish me to the couch (or was I banishing myself 🙂 ) I would turn on the TV muted and flip through channels. I’d occasionally see MSTK3 and think “what a dumb puppet show” or “what’s up with the silhouettes in the movie theatre?” I had no freaking idea what monumentally magisterial mockery was in the riffing BECAUSE I NEVER TURNED THE SOUND UP!!! EPIC FAIL for me!
Just a few years ago when bored “flipping channels” in netflixx I decided to watch an MSTK3 episode with the sound on. I was converted for life. These guys were doing what I had always done with cheesy movies and they were almost as cynical as I am haha.
Sometimes when this old world starts getting me down, I just flip on Manos and I realize that humanity’s always had foible baked right into the cake.
Coincidentally,TV’s Frank is a ringer for an old boss of mine from many decades back.

@OldeVirginian, thank you for that. We much prefer the Newer versions with Mike and Pearl, though there are some gems in the Joel days. Like I said, Saturday morning was MST3K must see TV and when SciFi cancelled it, we started collecting seasons sold on Ebay, Craig’s list and when friends asked me “what did I want for Christmas/birthday?” Well, there’s this silly set of MST3K DVDs I’d LOVE to have….
Nick stumbled onto someone selling about a hundred or so in white sleeves that were numbered but not titled for about $20. It was a fairly simple matter to get the “list” of episodes and name them ourselves.
There are a few stinkers, but by and large, the riffing is well done and the sarcasm well done. My favorite female heroine? The femme fa tale from The Screaming Skull, the movie where Croe orders and receives his free coffin.
AND, it has the wonderful short Gumby and Pokey’s Robot Rumpus. Yes, we are set for entertainment for TEOTWAWKI.

I grew up in Iowa. I wrestled since I was in 7th grade. Had a lifetime winning record. I’m met Dan Gable when I was in high school when he came to visit our team. I’d occasionally see MSTK3 and think “what a dumb puppet show” or “what’s up with the silhouettes in the movie theatre?” I had no freaking idea what monumentally magisterial mockery was in the riffing BECAUSE I NEVER TURNED THE SOUND UP!!! EPIC FAIL for me!
Just a few years ago when bored “flipping channels” in netflixx I decided to watch an MSTK3 episode with the sound on. I was converted for life. These guys were doing what I had always done with cheesy movies and they were almost as cynical as I am haha.
Sometimes when this old world starts getting me down, I just flip on Manos and I realize that humanity’s always had foible baked right into the cake.
Coincidentally,TV’s Frank is a ringer for an old boss of mine from many decades back.

@OldeVirginian, thank you for that. We much prefer the Newer versions with Mike and Pearl, though there are some gems in the Joel days. Like I said, Saturday morning was MST3K must see TV and when SciFi cancelled it, we started collecting seasons sold on Ebay, Craig’s list and when friends asked me “what did I want for Christmas/birthday?” Well, there’s this silly set of MST3K DVDs I’d LOVE to have….
Nick stumbled onto someone selling about a hundred or so in white sleeves that were numbered but not titled for about $20. It was a fairly simple matter to get the “list” of episodes and name them ourselves.
There are a few stinkers, but by and large, the riffing is well done and the sarcasm well done. My favorite female heroine? The femme fa tale from The Screaming Skull, the movie where Croe orders and receives his free coffin.
AND, it has the wonderful short Gumby and Pokey’s Robot Rumpus. Yes, we are set for entertainment for TEOTWAWKI.

Amazing, Maggie! By transplanting EC & me from the HSF “wasp” post to this one, the denouement of this thread has been incredible. From the “sound of silence” to MST3K! Wow! It just doesn’t get any better than that! Hopefully Left a Comment will understand the conversation was a merely a continuation & realize his contributions are valued.
