I can’t say I was ever a Bowie fan but a few years back David Gilmour of Pink Floyd put on a fantastic show at the Royal Albert Hall promoting his On An Island record. David invited Bowie to sing an early Pink Floyd tune called Arnold Layne. For those not familiar with Floyd, Syd Barret was their original singer, songwriter and Arnold Layne was their first single.
While Syd owns it, Bowie does a damn fine rendition and was an excellent choice on Gilmour’s part. Bowie stays on to sing with Gilmour on Comfortably Numb an belts out a better rendition than Roger Waters IMO. I’m glad Gilmour chose Bowie for this show. He might have escaped my attention but for these two songs. This show also marks one of the final performances by Richard Wright who died the following year.

Never was a fan of David Bowie .Something about him always made me think he was a faggot or transsexual or something.I remember kids in my high school that liked David Bowie along with Alice Cooper and Rod Stewart.They would have that music playing in their cars before school.

As a product of the 80’s, many of Bowie’s songs are permanently associated with certain events and experiences growing up for me. Blue Jean, China Girl, Under Pressure, Let’s Dance… great sticky sweet pop tunes I’ll never forget. RIP!
