The hypocrisy of Obama and his liberal minions is breathtaking to behold, as they pretend to support free speech, woman’s rights, and gay rights, while remaining completely silent regarding the Islamic leaders of Saudi Arabia torturing, brutalizing and killing anyone who supports free speech, woman’s rights, or gay rights. They reveal themselves to be cowards and liars.
Our politician leaders don’t say a peep as they purposefully destroy the US shale oil industry. Saudi Arabia is our enemy. I’d get 5,000 lashes for that statement if I lived in Saudi Arabia.
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — A court in Saudi Arabia has sentenced a man to 10 years in prison and 2,000 lashes for expressing his atheism in hundreds of Twitter posts.
Al-Watan online daily said Saturday that religious police in charge of monitoring social networks found more than 600 tweets denying the existence of God, ridiculing Quranic verses, accusing all prophets of lies and saying their teachings fueled hostilities.
It says the 28-year-old man admitted to being an atheist and refused to repent, saying that what he wrote reflected his own beliefs and that he had the right to express them. The report did not name the man.
The court also fined him 20,000 riyals, about $5,300.
Liberals are all for free speech if it aligns with their various agendas. Otherwise, they enjoy a Saudi-lite ideology that, figuratively speaking, lashes those who disagree. Examples abound, the most currently notorious of which occur on college campuses, those former bastions of free expression.
I am also reminded of the baking couple in Oregon who politely declined to be part of an event which violated their religious faith (a lesbian wedding). Oh the horror! Their small business had to be destroyed and it was. (At the time, Fox News did a report that aired only briefly. A reporter went to several -I think it was 13 – bakeries owned by Muslims and asked if they would supply a cake for a same-sex wedding. Every one of them said absolutely not. Of course this report was removed.)

In the NT Jesus was whipped with 39 lashes. The law allowed for 40 lashes, but they did only 39 just in case they miscounted. 40 lashes …. because it was believed 40 would kill a man, either immediately or eventually. Of course … the Romans had multiple metal hooks attached to their whips.

Public executions were a form of entertainment in old England. They even set their lawn chairs out like they were going to watch a parade.
Mexico has a more participatory style of punishment where the lawbreaker is lucky when he is rescued by the cops.
@Stucky: I seem to remember reading that when someone is sentenced to large number of lashes, they get whipped one time until they look about dead, then allowed to recover, whipped again, recover, etc. until the total number of lashes is done. It’s barbaric… and I expect nothing better from the most barbaric wealthy country in the world.

Recently CBC radio News (Canada) did complain about Canada’s role in this, but their main complaint seemed to be not that Canada was supplying weapons to Saudis to wage war on Yemen, but that the weapons were falling into unauthorized Yemeni hands.
