Just a short side comment about the “4 sall” sign. Yeah, I know it was posted for humorous effect, and I had a quick chuckle — but I had to say something. Everyone knows the old saying about, “For the man with a hammer, every problem is a nail.” That is true also for those of us who are very bright. We often look at intelligence as being the Single Great Solution. While intelligence, memory and abstract thought can solve a LOT of problems, intelligence should not be the only tool we have in our tool box.
While still a young man, I had the great fortune to work with an older woman who was, shall we say, dumb as a box of rocks. She was hardly literate, and I can easily imagine her making a “4 sall” sign. She was NOT the person you would want designing that airliner you board for vacation — but she was a GOOD person. Genuinely good, honest, hard working and pulled her own weight, she was never back stabbing or too quick to anger. She was the kind of person who would do anything she could to make your life a little brighter and better. I suspect that in spite of her small knowledge she would be a much better Congressman or Senator than any we currently have in those offices. She has been gone many years now, but I am proud to have been her friend.
Anyway, I get the “4 sall” joke, (and have made many such comments myself) but sometimes I have to stop and remind myself that literacy, polished speech and even high intelligence are not the things that make a person honorable or worthy of some respect.
Combine not being able to read, write or do arithmetic with affirmative action, welfare for life and consumerism and it becomes a big problem for us all.
Heck, combine anything with affirmative action, welfare and consumerism and it becomes a big problem. Low intelligence, just like poverty, is not a blessing, but even stupid people can still be decent. And bright people can still be wicked.

Yeah, I agree that intelligence is not going to make a person honorable. But then again, stupid does go a long way towards gullible and gullible is what most merkins are.

Just saying…

MMMMMM. Spaghetti and Jerry Curl.
Prison, Army or University, all these institutions of higher learning have succumbed to politically correct efforts to boost self-esteem.
