In the two months since President Trump’s inauguration, food banks and hunger advocates around the country have noted a decline in the number of eligible immigrants applying for SNAP — and an uptick in immigrants seeking to withdraw from the program.
Their fear, advocates say, is that participation could draw the eye of Immigration and Customs Enforcement or hurt their chances of attaining citizenship. Without federal nutrition benefits, many are resorting to food pantries and soup kitchens to feed themselves and their children.
The evidence is still anecdotal — and The Washington Post was unable to speak directly with immigrants who chose to cancel their SNAP benefits.
But all it took was one astute Twitter user to show the world that the headline they posted wasn’t the original one.
Twitter user and Daily Caller columnist Julian Wan caught the title change by noting the URL, which showed the original title. After he found it, he quickly showed it to the rest of the world:
Bezos’ @washingtonpost quickly changed this headline… doesn’t want you to know illegals are on benefits paid by… you. pic.twitter.com/soDFn2Hput

The slug is still the original headline. This is #fakenews 101, @washingtonpost is a liberal smear tabloid. pic.twitter.com/pfWR6hFcJ6

The images are reproduced below, in case you can’t see via Twitter exactly how the headline was changed:
Ok, we already know that Jeff Bezos’s blog likes to make its headlines as click-bait-ey as possible, and we also know that they like to issue weak retractions, so this should just be an open-and-shut case of WaPo deliberately misleading its readers in the headline, out of fear of losing clicks. There’s obviously a big difference between “now canceling their food stamps” and “going hungry” – the implication that whoever would be deported is in the country illegally, and thus not eligible for SNAP benefits in the first place, but is still getting them regardless.
But alas, this saga was anything but over. Parker Molloy, a “writer at Upworthy”, got in on the act, saying that “This article isn’t about undocumented immigrants, it’s about green card holders and citizens worried about getting deported.”
@juliangwan This article isn’t about undocumented immigrants, it’s about green card holders and citizens worried about getting deported.

In case you were wondering, you are correct – U.S. Citizens cannot be deported – where would they be deported to? A country they’re not a citizen of? And President Trump’s new executive order explicitly exempts green card holders from deportation… and the order itself only covers six nations.
Molloy continued to insist to the contrary, while Wan had to explain to her exactly what the article really covered:
@ParkerMolloy The article is about illegals applying for benefits through family members and legal immigrants foregoing SNAP benefits. pic.twitter.com/5WeS8CS8u6

Molloy wasn’t alone – Anthony De Rosa, “Digital Production Manager For The Daily Show”, also took to criticizing Wan for his observation, to which Wan noted how De Rosa skewed his original statement and observation of the headline change:
.@Anthony it also points out that ILLEGALS use family members to game the system for benefits. Did you skip that part or just lie? pic.twitter.com/5zjaBzZQsA
— Julian Wan ?? (@juliangwan) March 17, 2017
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
De Rosa went on to claim he didn’t purposely delude to his approximately 100,000 Twitter followers, and Wan finally hit him with the kill shot:
.@Anthony You quote tweeted, capitalized LEGAL, and misdirected your audience.
Classic @TheDailyShow production in a nutshell.

You can see the entire exchange between Wan And De Rosa here, and the exchange between Wan and Molloy here.
What was most notable about this entire Twitter “spat” however, was the fact that both of the “defenders” of the original article made absolutely no mention of the headline change, or why it was changed. As I already noted, the WaPo changed the headline to subvert the simple fact that anyone who had any fear of deportation would have to be someone who was either 1) collecting SNAP benefits illegally, or 2) collecting SNAP benefits legally as a non-citizen, but doing so criminally to dispense them to an illegal resident. No one else would or should have any “fear” of deportation.
But, it seems facts get in the way of a Twitter spat and an impassioned defense of a failed narrative. It would be sad… if it weren’t already so amusing.
Next headline: “Trump causing massive starvation among immigrants”.
Watch for it.
If only
Isn’t that what Barry said about Bush?
The media is already backtracking on the story yesterday of Trumps budget eliminating funding for Meals on Wheels. Fake news……….
“A laptop with information on the Trump Tower layout and details of a probe into Hillary Clinton’s email server was reportedly stolen from a vehicle belonging to a Secret Service agent, according to ABC. The computer heist took place Thursday. Authorities have video evidence and are looking for a suspect. The laptop is encrypted and the hard drive could be remotely wiped clean if necessary, the ABC report says. “
Why would a Secret Service agent have information on the Hilary email server on their laptop? They’re not the one’s that would investigate things like that.
Whoever took it, though, knew exactly what they were looking for.
One reason comes to mind, to transfer it to another computer without leaving a traceable internet connection to lead to prove its origin or show it had been done.
There are probably many other reasons as well, the SS is an upper level LE agency.
Typical wapo douchebaggery…….
Articles like this are why I do not use amazon, that, and get better pricing elsewhere.A lot of sites including here mention they will get a % of amazon purchases, yet here we also see a side bar with phrase”Know your enemy”with a push for Startpage(like them well enuff.Does not articles like this show us the enemy, perhaps time for a amazon/bezos replacement?
WAR is coming.
Either that, or it turns out that when the HERD shifts to the Right, there are amazingly few Leftists willing to stand up for their beliefs.
Isn’t it hilarious to see Leftist/communists in common cause with some of the richest Internet Oligarchs in the world?
Keep an eye on Florida this weekend, it may show how many there are and to what extent they are willing to go: http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/03/17/exclusive-progressives-plan-storm-trump-like-gop-congressmans-town-hall-thousands-disrupt-presidents-agenda/
Hopefully, nothing comes of this and they just quiet down fade away.
Actually, while I am all for protest/right of free speech ect. hope they are stupid enuff to cross the line into violence and are dealt with.Seems inevitable and might as well get it going.
I honestly do not see a final peaceful end to the countries divide, best can hope for is a not too bloody divorce.
The Washington Post. A Rag that not only spits out fake and embarrassingly biased news, but also a “news outlet” that loves to conjure up: https://tse3.mm.bing.net/th?id=OIP.XXf93_OIbSTbenZTNiyRvwEsDp&pid=15.1
Bezos also bought up some local rags in the D.C. area–you know, those ones tossed into your driveway and are free. They used to be a source of good local news and non-biased, but are now so left-slanted, pro-gay, pro-Islam, that I only take out the coupons and throw the paper into the recycle box.
Rise,I hate those papers tossed onto ones property without being asked.I rented a room for 9 months close to a great paying gig, usually got 1-2 a week!I bagged em up and took em to the local office that covered the region and literally left them in their reception area, asked em to please stop littering! The folks there were a little surprised and perhaps hesitant to say anything so I just left.
I always did the same with junk mail credit card apps, loaded the envelop with a lot of junk and sent back thick and heavy with their pre-paid postage.
I love this. If more of us did this, it would make a difference.
A great one with the CC offers is to take the pre-paid envelope, tape a cinder block to it, and then put it in one of the “gang” mailboxes. The postman HAS to take it, because it is pre-paid, and the CC company HAS to pay for the shipping because they included the envelope with their pre-pay account with the USPS on it. After a few $100.00 shipping costs to Capital One, I magically DO NOT get any more of their junk mail. That is how you screw a banker…. 🙂
Had a college buddy who did this to the Columbia Record Club, when they wouldn’t cancel him at his request. After four or five, he had a vice-president calling him and PLEADING for him to stop, he was cancelled, he would get no more selections / bills, etc.
The Washington Post, as a journalistic entity, died in 1933. What remains is a tribal propaganda mill.
I’ve been telling the local Tea Party that the Right needs its own newspaper, national and local.
“…it’s not uncommon for undocumented parents to apply for benefits on behalf of their citizen children.”
Another argument for ending “birthright citizenship.”
