“If there’s a Rock n Roll heaven, man you know they got a hell of a band…”
Loved that man’s music.
He put a lot of smiles and good times in this world, and that is a great epitaph for anyone.
90 is a good run.
Also made me think of Back to the Future, “Cousin Chuck, you gotta hear this”.

I’m an older dude. Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly were my favorites back then. Buddy departed suddenly when I was a teenager. Chuck hung around until I could post, “Well done, Mr. Berry. Your music and influence on other great musicians will be timeless.” Here’s my favorite.

It’s kind of hard to mourn a guy who was married for damn near 70 years and got to do the shit he loved doing, remaining healthy for the most part until he reached 90.

Johnny B. Goode was always my favorite.

…We boogied in the kitchen, we boogied in the hall, I got some on my finger but I wiped it on de wall… If he was 90, 1972 was the 1/2 way point.

Sweet Little Sixteen is my favorite; there are several different renditions.

Did Chuck, Little Richard, & Bill Halley ever get into a room together to determine who was the first Rock-n-Roller? I think it may have been somebody else actually.

Saw Chuck Berry on Nov 9th 1992 at the Ipswich Regent Theater (small venue) in Ipswich England. Excellent show with Chuck still bouncing around like a teenager. A lone couple dared to sit on the edge of the stage. A few minutes later law enforcement saw them and started to get uppity. Chuck stopped the show mid-song asking the cops to leave them alone. They acquiesced and in minutes the stage was full of concertgoers dancing on the stage. That continued for several songs before Chucked asked them to have a seat saying that if they behaved themselves he’d invite the dancers back up there later in the show.

True to his word, he invited “them dancers” back up after a dozen more songs and the band played the last few songs surrounded by their fans………..and a good time was had by all.

This is the first thing I thought of when I heard the news:

From Saturday Night Live season 3 episode 18 (Steve Martin, Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtin)

Cocuwa: No! A foreign planet actually SENT us a message last week. Next week, the government will reveal the message to the public.

Kreeg Antwoord: [ coughing ] You see, it all started on August 20th, 1977, when NASA put up a recording of the sounds of Earth on Voyager I. A two-hour long tape included, uh, natural sounds of animals, a French poem by Gaugliere, a passage from the Koran in Arabic, messages from President Carter, United Nations Secretary Kurt Waldheim, music — everything from classical to Chuck Berry.

Maxine Universe: Uh — and you’re saying that the, uh — another civilization has found the tape?

Cocuwa: Yes. They’ve sent us a message that actually proves it. It may be just four simple words, but it is the FIRST positive proof that other intelligent beings inhabit the universe.

Maxine Universe: Uh — what are the four words, Cocuwa?

Cocuwa: The four words that came to us from outer space — the FOUR words that will appear on the cover of Time Magazine next week — are: [ he holds up the magazine” “Send More Chuck Berry”.
