I blame da parents.

I’m so glad that cell phones and pagers didn’t exist when I was growing up. Sometimes I was two or more counties away and my parents were none the wiser. “Be home for dinner” or “before the street lights come on” were some great rules!

2 counties away.
I was once rear ended by 3 boys who were 16yo in the middle of the day during the week.Their small car was smashed up badly though luckily they were all ok.Nice boys but in bad trouble.
They were from a small town about 130-140 miles from here. They had cut school to come over here and spend the day with some girls they had met in a summer band camp.
I’ve often wondered how the conversation went.
“Mom,I’ve had a wreck and the car can’t be driven.”
“Oh my gosh, are you ok?Where are you?Tampa-what are you doing in Tampa?”

Not as bad as when my daughter got an afternoon job during her HS senior year with the Vet and I bought her a car to get there and to come home. I only saw her a couple times after that.

I’m getting the silent treatment at this moment because I will not give the ok to buy my daughter a car.
In laws to pay for it but we do not need it and it will cost upwards of $300/month to insure it.

I learned Fortran in the summer between junior high and high school at an NSF Summer Science Institute. I was hooked on computers after that, even though the personal computer (PC) was not invented until a few years after I left high school, and I only had a few courses in college that used them extensively.
Once I bought my first Apple IIe, I was lost to humanity.
