Bea, spent some time eyeballing the Moon last night in preparation for testing a very rare solar prominence filter someone loaned to me. I used a variety of magnifications with and without filters and detected no hint of transparency in the darkened areas of the disk. I even caught a satellite as it tracked across the disk.
