Curious how a company’s tag line of “don’t be evil” evolved to become the antithesis of this in action. When, where and why was the power to control thought so generously granted to themselves? Is it time to consider busting up this global monopoly of a self-congratulatory ideological echo-chamber when considering the power it sways? Death to GOOLAG?

People, people, people, don’t use a product or service where the company is out to f__k you. Just use Duck Duck Go as your search engine and call it a day.

Spot on! Change e-mail too. I would love to see someone knock You Tube down.

You are still using Google with DDG. You are just sending them anonymized data.

Note, I’m not discouraging the use of DDG or Ixquick or the variations of searx.me (I use them), etc… but make sure you understand what precisely you are doing. Google is still one of the search engines they send the search request to, they just send the search request anonymously.

So if, say you do a search for a very personal matter using DDG which includes information that can be used to identify you, Google still has that information. Even with the anonymizing data there is still a lot that can be deciphered just from the searches themselves. AOL users learned this the hard way years ago when their “anonymous” search results were released.

So use the middle men search engines, especially because they pull from other search engines besides just Google… but know that the results you are getting are still going to be coming from Google and will include Google’s manipulations of search results.
