Authored by Mike Shedlock via www.themaven.net/mishtalk,

A program that allows gov’t to collect data without a warrant expires this year. Paul opposes a “long-term” extension.

The House Rules Committee on Tuesday released a draft bill that would reauthorize the program. Privacy-minded lawmakers have already criticized the bill as doing little to reform 702.

“This bill is an eleventh-hour attempt to sneak an unchecked warrantless surveillance program through Congress,” Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) said in a statement Wednesday morning.

“The legislation posted late yesterday is a clear step backward for Americans’ rights. It does nothing to check the warrantless backdoor searches of Americans’ communications,” Wyden added.

“The bill also fails to codify the current prohibition on ‘abouts’ collection, in which communications entirely among innocent Americans can be swept up if they reference a target’s email address.”

There have been rumblings on Capitol Hill that lawmakers could try to include language in must-pass spending legislation to extend the controversial program. On Tuesday, Paul and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said they would oppose any spending bill that included a permanent reauthorization of the provision, according to the Washington Examiner.

Dear Senator Paul, I have a question:

This

seems related. Jimmy Dore interviewing ex-NSA employee William Binney on how the NSA tracks us. It also touches on why the Trump-Russia collusion conspiracy theory is bogus.

I doubt that surveillance of most Americans and residents is of any value.

It seems that virtually all of the mass murderers, terrorists, spies, and even common criminals are always well known to police and surveillance agencies, frequently along with their publicly professed plans for their deeds, but no one bothers to do anything about it thus making surveillance of no value at all till after the fact.

Lets get rid of it -mass surveillance- and start concentrating our efforts on something that actually works.

When the stated purpose of this activity, is clearly not the actual purpose, you should start wondering what they actually have in mind.

The surveillance of all Americans and residents is not of any value in seeking out terrorists, but is of tremendous value politically and economically.

The totally bogus surveillance state does nothing more than invade the rights of good people. For the expense involved, what good does the TSA do (cheap feels for weirdos), the Patriot Act, and the rest of the BS programs stop essentially nothing. It’s almost always the common citizen noticing something peculiar and notifying the “authorities”. Indeed, what do they have in store for us? Thanks for going to bat for us Rand

When will somebody filibuster and/or bring awareness to the unconstitutional practice of ” Civil Asset Forfeiture?”

Any judge upholding this practice along with the perpetrators (corrupt Police) should be charged with treason and face life in prison.

All of thes Patriot Acts or Homeland Security / TSA and surveillance programs or acts are all designed around command and control . The fact that political pressures from every special intrest group or government contractor (BELTWAY BANDIT) one can imagine to Institute the majority of the malarkey our government does boggles the mind . None of it can pass constitutional muster so “THEY” Lie about everything and convince just enough people it’s for our own good . Where is a good old mob with Tar & Feathers when we really need one !
God Speed Senator Paul regardless of its a waste of time , talk till you drop and give me a call . I would love to put a rant into the congressional record

Upvote if you’d like a LONG TERM travel ban on shitty countries BEYOND just the obvious ones on Trump’s list.

Downvote if not.

If enough of us stood up and rebelled against this crap it would go away. At least on the surface.

No West Coaster should any of us as a group or single handedly attempted to force the hand of our government we may be right . Sadly that means very little to the badge wearing minions who will crush us with extreme prejudice after all their excuse is canned and ready . I’m a first responder “Just Doing My Job”
