Are We Moving Irrevocably Towards the Old Soviet System?

Guest Post by Robert Bronsdon (Hollywood Rob)

Much digital ink has been devoted to expressing opinions on the concepts which underlie our morality and our society.  I think that this is a great discussion to have as there is literally no other place in the great USofA where that discussion can talk place.  All venues of dissent have been closed.  But let’s face it, while many people have opinions…not all opinions are as well founded.  Some come from books.  Some come from school.  Some come from political cartoons.  Some come from a church or a mosque.

It is my sincere desire to provide readers of this site with the best unbiased information available, and a forum where it can be discussed openly, as our Founders intended. But it is not easy nor inexpensive to do so, especially when those who wish to prevent us from making the truth known, attack us without mercy on all fronts on a daily basis. So each time you visit the site, I would ask that you consider the value that you receive and have received from The Burning Platform and the community of which you are a vital part. I can't do it all alone, and I need your help and support to keep it alive. Please consider contributing an amount commensurate to the value that you receive from this site and community, or even by becoming a sustaining supporter through periodic contributions. We all hope that we are well informed but must admit that not one of us can possess the insight necessary to do proper justice to even the simplest concepts.  And as concepts become more complex, the amount of study to create a solid base of understanding becomes daunting.  This is likely why so many of us turn to the main stream media.  We want them to distill the required knowledge down to small enough bites that we can swallow them and hopefully remember them.  But, of course, that leaves us vulnerable to the corruption that results from the coercion of the main stream media.  To mold our minds one only has to gain control over the pathways of information and through that control, modify the message that reaches our ears and forms the basis for our opinions.

Dr. Jordan Peterson has placed his entire library of class videos online.  If you want to learn what he has taught it is available for all to see.  In this video he explains how Dostoevsky saw the system under which he was condemned to live.  He wrote about how the need to know what every citizen was saying stultified the population to the point that no one could say anything that they thought.  I don’t doubt that what Dostoevsky said is exactly true.

I would just like to suggest that having the US government read every email, tweet, and phone conversation is not just similar, it is exactly the same thing that the government of Russia implemented and it will have exactly the same impact.  That, I would offer, is the greatest evil of all.  For while one could certainly say that killing a person is the greatest taking that can occur, taking away their freedom to express themselves is actually far worse for it kills the soul every minute of every day.

While in high school in the late 80’s, I took an elective class on communism. The teacher was an interesting and intelligent man who claimed that the USA, at the time, was the closest country in the world to having a truly Marxist society; more so than even the USSR. He cited our Social Security, entitlements, etc. as proof. He also stated that he saw this evolution continuing long into the future and that the citizens of the USA would “sell off” their freedoms for handouts and perceived safety. We laughed at the notion, but I now think he was correct.

So true, Rob.
It’s the age-old desire; control. It just has a fresh coat of paint, and is executed with new tech advances.
So many, especially younger folks, are under the burden of not having read as voraciously as I did, from an early age. It’s really hard to make up the slack in your later years. That reading included Dostoyevsky. That foundation has helped me recognize in the now what those from our past described. Any increase in knowledge and understanding is good; what we do with it is even more important. There is quite a gulf between knowledge and wisdom.

“There is quite a gulf between knowledge and wisdom.”

Yes. It is one thing to have a dream of utopia, or even professing knowledge on how to get there, than truly understanding what such dreams and knowledge actually deliver; that is, how the road to hell is paved with good intentions. This is wisdom.

The USA ZOG is as corrupt and as powerful as the USSR ZOG was; but obviously the USA ZOG is not as overtly heavy handed, and prone to failures (but that is subject to change soon); so the Useful Idiots (50% of the USA) continue to support the Democrats, NeoCons and RINOs for now. I believe Putin and Trump hate that godless system; I believe Trump intends to destroy it with God’s help and that is why so many organizations and people are trying so obviously to destroy him first. Harpy said if he wins, “we” will all hang; Lord God, please let it happen soon!

Absolutely true…And from the standpoint of scientific progress, lack of freedom of speech absolutely kills it….

Idiotic drivel. The author confuses the East German Stasi with Russia. And of course fails to understand that hardly anybody used email there before the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991.
What we have now surpasses the Stasi’s greatest fantasy.

“In this video he explains how Dostoevsky saw the system under which he was condemned to live.”

In this video Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi echos those words of resignation with that which brings relief.

“I May Talk Too Much But My Heart Is Silent What Else Can I Do?
I Am Condemned To Live This Life” (at 2:37)

Overheard in the 1980s.

In Russia they get propaganda. In America we get “the news”.
