Muck’s Minute #54 The Future Part IX

If industrialized super-countries (U.S.A. tops the list right now) slowly bleeds off excess wealth too much too soon, through a fiscal and economic collapse, there will be no one on the face of the Earth that will retain the ability to put us on the road to the stars.

This is my greatest fear.

I fear that normal human nature, greed, short life span (with matching short attention span) and ignorance will simply keep things on the same old road until there is not sufficient wealth available over and above the cost of just food, water and the necessities of staying alive to allow us to even try.

Then we are truly stuck in an extinction mode of being trapped with no hope of escape as a species.

We absolutely must – without fail – make our top priority the rapid escape from the Earth and quickly escape the solar system as well. We must, as a species, spread our seed to the stars if we are to escape the fate of the dinosaur. We must convince others to take the long view and the long goal and work toward this goal at an accelerated pace or events of our own nature will catch up with us and prevent us from doing it at all.

There is no way that even a small  fraction of Earth’ masses can be vaulted to the stars. Those here now and those in the intermediate future will die here. But, as a race, we can indeed send representatives and our seed itself to populate other worlds and other stars so that when our time on Earth is finished, humans will live on in other places and times.

The time to begin action is now or we will forever loose the chance. If the masses of this world are too stupid and too shortsighted to slow the deterioration of our Earth, then those of vision and ability and wealth must take action to escape it and do so as quickly as we can possibly do it. (Think Space X)

There is no alternative. There is no other way to insure that we, as humanity (or a derivative of it), can survive. If we are trapped on this fragile Earth, we will die as surely as the least of the species gone extinct before us. The only question is when; sooner amidst the inexorable grinding and detritus of our own nature, stupidity and excesses or later at the whim of the Universe itself.

Now – at last – we come to the short term which, if you listen to the alt-new on the Internet,  is going to be very short indeed.  The Global debt situation is totally out of control, the money-printers (the Fed, the US Treasury and most of the other countries who do this  – worldwide), ever since Alan Greenspan have all lost their minds borrowing and printing and printing and borrowing and borrowing and there are bubbles EVERYWHERE..

Those bubbles are about to POP. When they start vanishing, then we’ll know why the police forces in this country of ours has been militarized with Humvees, machine guns, AR-15’s and most every type of military arms there are to be had.

We will be walking – blindly for the most part – into an even Greater Depression (Oh, how I wish we had Paul Volker as Fed Head back in the 90’s or early 00 years.  He’d fix it the hard way (just like he did in the early to mid-70’s).

But it’s too late now to gracefully fix anything.  There is too much debt that cannot be paid but will be defaulted on via hyper-inflation and then collapse.  The Federal Government can be counted on to fight the losing battle with every nasty trick they can including closing banks, freezing bank accounts and “bailing-in” those very banks with depositor money.  Same with brokerage accounts and look for another ban on holding gold (and maybe silver, this time as well)..

In any event, between now and – say 2020 to 2025 – this bankruptcy will occur along with very likely an accompanying major war.  This war will be started to take the civilian minds off their own problems.  If you think this has never happened before, you don’t know your history.

The severity of the economic collapse of this country is already baked in the cake.  The war isn’t but don’t be surprised if one happens. Yes, we are essentially toast in the short run.  Whether it ends there or we have another extinction event by way of war, we don’t know.

We will have a greater Depression.

I hope to live a while longer so I’m optimistic that war will not result, at least in the short run.  You might make some preps for the short run anyway.  “JIC”

C’mon Muck. First, why is it important that we as a species continue to exist? We don’t need war to finish us off. I favor the slow degradation and finally individual survival of the fittest in whatever this earth ecology is on it’s way to becoming. We are evolving, too, in case nobody noticed . It won’t be the place we oldest are nostalgic for, but there’s no going back. Most will die.

Muck ,I hate to break it to you but we as a people ,race or species aren’t going anywhere. The distances are to long or far .Nope , we are stuck right here on good old earth. Besides you got a ring side seat to see that the Bible is the truth in time and history . Muck ,look up to heaven and say Lord ( That be Jesus Christ , the one in the New Testament ) save an old fart like me from my Sins. Give me the faith to believe and to repent .To believe in you as My Lord and Savior. You can thank me later !!!!!!

Via a guy who did a little astronomy, substitute “convince” for teach:
“You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him discover it in himself.” ~Galileo Galilei.
If it’s already there to be found.

I’d say Volcker patched the tube. But he didn’t – couldn’t – unscrew the pooch he’d made a career outta’ screwing.

The essential toast toaster oven’s always on, but until then, L’chaim.

Yes we should escape this rock before we “loose” our chance.

Since we have screwed this place up so badly, we ought to go do it again? What kind of bizarre thinking is this? The sheer effort and scale of leaving Earth and colonizing planets beyond the solar system is a better solution than focusing that effort on fixing the planet we’ve got?

And what are the chances we find some place close by that has: water, an atmosphere we can safely breathe, gravity that will neither crush us or cause our muscles and organs to atrophy, a suitable temperature, plants we can eat, animals we can eat, microorganisms that won’t kill us, macroorganisms (aliens) that won’t kill us, protection from space radiation, a light spectrum that won’t hurt the eyes, and 1000’s of other important criteria.

Or, we could quit fucking around and get this place cleaned up.

Which sounds more logical?

Bravo: if we do not change our attitudes, we would just “eff up” the new planet…

Sorry Muck….. not going to happen. Even if we had the technology for interstellar travel, it would take centuries of flight just to get to the next solar system, with the tools we have on hand, not to mention other obstacles in our way.
As for the debt, not to worry. It will get repudiated at some point, which I believe will be when the Chinese get to make the Yuan a fully backed currency with PM’s as it’s anchor, making it the “king dollar” for a little while, until they to start to debauch their dollar as well, at which point they too will suffer the folly of all empires before it.
War? Well at least it will be quick for some, and others not so well. It will ultimately reduce the pressure on our ability to produce food for our hungry mouth’s to feed.
Maybe then, we will have learned, – but I truly doubt it…..

The technology will have to involve FTL travel, and the apparent fact that aliens have reached Earth from other star systems indicates that it is possible. We need better science, a lot better. Which means governments must stop interfering with the scientific process and the patenting of inventions (DOD currently has virtual veto power over patent applications).

You’re new here or don’t show up much, so probably don’t know the inside joke on moran.

It’s cool. I fell for it too. Watch for “your” vs. “you’re” as well, although that one seems to be more popular with EL Coyote (aka Full Retard) than anyone else.

The correction is unavoidable and necessary. The important question will be: did we learn anything from it?

Even in the star trek world, humans had to endure wwiii before they could take to the stars.
