Indeed, the Olympics is a complete and total boondoggle and nothing more than the gold-medal of all crony-capitalist awards the world can bestow. Friends of government rake in millions and billions while the people are saddled with nothing but debt.

But to be fair, some of the examples presented show stadiums that were used for several decades before falling into disrepair. That is the case for large venues that have nothing to do with the Olympics. Much of this non-Olympic problem comes from local bond referendums that fund graft and corruption and special interests in the community who make sure that votes on the referendum happen on off years when low voter turnout ensures passage.

The LA Coliseum was constructed for the 1932 Olympics, was reused during the 1984 Olympics, and is still in use today. If not for the damage local earthquakes have done to it, its life-expectancy might be another 100 years. LA is one of the cities that is “perfect” for hosting the games. These stadiums, velodromes, tennis courts, pools, etc. get serious use by the populace once built. With all the sunshine and interest in outdoor sports, the opportunities to use these venues (and even charge admission to help pay for maintenance) are immense. The recent S. Korea games on the other hand happened in a country that has VERY LOW interest in winter sports (outside of speed skating it seems). Thousands of trees from a sacred ancient forest were cut down for the skiing venues and nobody will ever use the area once the games are over.

The problem AS ALWAYS, rests with the power governments have over their citizens and their citizens’ money. Without government, central banking, imminent domain laws, etc. there could NEVER be an Olympics. The citizens simply wouldn’t put up with all this BS and the money they would have to IMMEDIATELY cough up.

Yes but Rio and Korea did us all a World of Good. Brazil was touted as our bright brown future. The gunshots, the armed robbery, and the constant attacks on White athletes. That made the Hindenburg blowing up in New Jersey seem like a mild malfunction in comparison.
Korea was where the diverse squad showed up. After all the uppity and petty blacks that always complained about the Whiteness of Snow Games, those clowns went out in the cold, and the medals hit the fan. Oh too bad. Its not like a ball game in the cold and snow.
Diversity. Mount Olympus looks down at you like Crom.

If you care about the olympics, you are a moron.

I can’t wait for the day when nobody gives a shit about this absurd waste of time.
