Springfield Armory Severs Ties With Dick’s Sporting Goods Over Gun Control Lobbying

Via The Federalist

Springfield Armory, a major manufacturer of handguns and rifles, announced on Thursday that it was severing all ties with Dick’s Sporting Goods following reports that the retailer had retained three lobbyists to push Congress to restrict the Second Amendment. The hiring of multiple gun control lobbyists by Dick’s was first reported by The Federalist on Wednesday.

“Springfield Armory is severing ties with Dick’s Sporting Goods and its subsidiary, Field & Stream, in response to their hiring a group for anti-Second Amendment lobbying,” the maker of the popular XD, XDS, and XDm semi-automatic handgun lines wrote on its Facebook page. “This latest action follows Dick’s Sporting Goods’ decision to remove and destroy all modern sporting rifles (MSR) from their inventory.”

“In addition, they have denied Second Amendment rights to Americans under the age of 21. We at Springfield Armory believe that all law abiding American citizens of adult age are guaranteed this sacred right under our Constitution.”

The hiring of multiple lobbyists to focus exclusively on gun control followed announcements by Dick’s that it would not only stop selling modern sporting rifles, but that it would entirely destroy its existing inventory of those rifles rather than sell them back to the manufacturers. An investigation by The Federalist, however, suggests that the actions of Dick’s Sporting Goods, which also owns Field & Stream stores throughout the country, may not match the corporation’s rhetoric.

Calls to nearly half a dozen Field & Stream stores throughout the country confirmed that the retailer is still actively selling the popular Ruger Mini-14, a semi-automatic rifle that is chambered in 5.56/.223, despite the new policy from Dick’s banning the sales of such rifles. Multiple stores, which are subsidiaries of Dick’s, reported that they had the rifle in stock, while others expressed a willingness to special order the rifle despite not having one currently on the shelves. The rifle retails for approximately $900.

Springfield is the first major gunmaker to publicly sever all ties with Dick’s over its anti-Second Amendment stance.

“It is clear where Dick’s Sporting Goods and its subsidiary, Field & Stream, stand on the Second Amendment, and we want to be clear about our message in response,” the company wrote. “At Springfield Armory, we believe in the rights and principles fought for and secured by American patriots and our founding forefathers, without question.”

“We will not accept Dick’s Sporting Goods’ continued attempts to deny Second Amendment freedoms to our fellow Americans,” Springfield concluded.

Springfield Armory was founded by order of George Washington in 1777 to store artillery and ammo to help Americans fight for independence in the Revolutionary War. Springfield Armory manufactured its first guns in 1794, and its name was eventually licensed for private use in 1974 after the U.S. government officially closed the armory six years earlier.

Well see how popular gun control is with the average working American by how well their business does in the coming year.

Growing or shrinking or staying the same, that will tell the story better than any poll can.

This sucks. I wanted to buy Dicks’ entire inventory of “assault rifles”. I don’t have any full automatic weapons (machine guns i.e. assault rifles) and I saw that as an opportunity to stock up. Missed my chance.

Eh,involves too much effort/time.I just e-mailed em back years ago and said why I stopped shopping there, also, told others to avoid.I will be honest only time ever bought there was some practice/target tips for me arrows, really was not a big fan of their store.

That said, you have the time/passing by do a shop and return, use cash and when you get cash back let em know the real reason you returned the goods, not the made up one to get your cash.

Yeah, because pushing tyrannical, leftist agendas has done so much for ESPN’s business, Dick’s thought they’d jump in and try the same thing. Enjoy closing down all those stores, Dick’s! It turns out Dick’s is quite aptly named…it just occurred to me.

Good for Springfield .I stopped doing business with Dick’s after they stopped selling ARs. Sorry bastards. The 2nd amendment is the only thing standing between us Traditional Americans and GENOCIDE at this point. I still got my M1A battle rifle and about 4000 rds of ammo .I could “hold them off” for a little while.

REI is falling apart at the seams. They brought in a bunch of SJW shit at the top, who have completely ruined the organization.

REI used to have repair shops in their stores, long gone. They used to carry their own brand of well made, well designed, gear – they still have their own brand of gear, but it’s no longer well made or well designed. Their staff is no longer knowledgeable, at all. Everything that made REI worth going to, has been slowly eliminated.

I certainly hope Dick’s drives off that cliff, too.

The finest rifle out there is the Springfield M1A. Why everybody buys ARs, I dunno. The M1A can do virtually everything flawlessly. Awesome rifle. Just awesome.

BTW, Dick’s, suck one

Steve,a lot of folks by AR’s and also M1’s,does not have to be a one or the other deal.I would say in todays day and age go with either a AR or AK as many more would be lying around if things get very frisky, learn with most popular platform.

Again, owning one does not prevent one for owning the other/funds(and some insane state laws)is all that prevents from having a well rounded collection. To those just starting though will warn you,you probably funds available will not stop at one or two, which is also fine.

A decent working basic AR is also half the cost of a M1(lets get the civilian marksman program going in high gear and get more M1’s back from overseas and into citizens hands!).

The reasons I opted for an AR…

1) lots of them
2) lots of ammo around
3) easy to look like a soldier when the time is right
4) it’s supposed to be a perfected design

James,
I wouldn’t dare get pissy about one rifle over another-just get 1 or 2 or 3 or….It’s just (to me) the crowd following the crowd, safety in numbers kinda thing. My point was the M1A is often overlooked. ARs are OK but with just iron sights on the M1A you “can” shoot out to 600 yards. Try that with a 5.56. It’s built like a tank and ready for anything. ARs, AKs, M1A, just get something and a “few” extra rounds in case you find yourself in the woods looking for zombies. Happy Hunting.

Steve, was in no way implying you or anyone in this getting pissy ect.I have shot me friends and really like it,and a quick look on broker shows them a bit less then what I thought they were going for(still want to repatriate overseas ones back into the US).

I would recommend any buying a new rifle for first time try as many as possible and see what fits you/you like, will be better and one that feels good to you more likely to shoot regularly. The same applies to boots/gloves/carpentry tools ect.

There is a great article on the Looser Rounds sites about hitting at a 1000 yards with a AR-15 with iron and basic ammo.Shows what one can accomplish with practice with decent basic gear(oh,and a little luck).

No matter what any here are shooting keep at it,enjoy it,oh,and BLOAT!

James,
No, No. I really meant “I” couldn’t get pissy about rifle selection. Not you or anyone else is getting pissy. Like I said, “get 1….”. I definitely have no axe to grind about any selection. I just get tired of seeing them on the range. Like motorcycles, I ride a Yamaha Stratoliner, Excellent bike. But all I see are Harleys. and everyone just buys a Harley because the other guy did.
That 1000 yard shot with the AR-c’mon now, the effective range in a battle situation is about 300 yards for the AR and a realistic max of 600 for the .308. I’ve seen the shot on You Tube you mention also a .22 at 600(?)yards and as I remember the elevation above the target was 46(?) feet for the .22 by Plinkster. Nice talking wit cha though.

While I agree that your average round at a 1000 out of a AR not a definitive kill shot would still rather not catch one and if done might give folks with bad intent something to think about.

Hell, even with my buddies Barret .50 I am not going to hit at a 1000 yards(yet, working on it!)and that would be a stopper.

The point I and article making is stop as you succinctly put it following crowd and try those crazy .22/.5.56 shots, when you get em down you have real skills on more realistic targeting. In the vein of long distance am inspired by a guy hitting 200 yards his target with compound bow,am going to work also on that and feel I will be spending a lot of time looking for arrows that veered off course.

For accurate/realistic long range have a Weatherby Mark 5 in magnum .300.

Seems the author doesn’t know the difference between a Eugene Stoner gas-blowback direct-impingement design and a Bill Ruger gas-piston M1 Garand knock-off system.

Difference? The Mini-14 usually doesn’t have the Ebil Pistol Grip, can come in Non-Ebil Wood furniture, usually doesn’t have the Uber-Ebil Bayonet Lug, and, most importantly, ISN’T AN AR-15.

I also love how Springfield is virtue-signalling how bad Dick’s is, when last year they were fucking-over the small dealers in Illinois:

I love my Springfield Armory pistols even more now. My primary competition gun for Major is a single stack 1911 .38 super comp gun built by Les Baer when he was running their custom shop.
I really like my .40 XD too. It sucks they are imported but they are a nice gun for the price.
Now that Springfield told Dick’s to suck it I might want to make a purchase to support them. I don’t need an M1 though because I have an HK 91 that shoots small groups and never jams.
Also for anyone interested, the earthquakes are getting pretty intense here on the Big Island. I am in no danger where I live but A few friends are evacuating their homes tomorrow and will be staying with me until things get sorted out with the volcano. There are mandatory evacuations for a few subdivisions and road closures in places where fissures opened and lava came spewing out. Some people are in danger from the lava but most of the evacuations are because of the sulphur dioxide that the volcano is pumping out.

As the left fascist movement gains speed with the continuious grip of a Boa Constrictor it becomes increasingly obvious what must be done . Those attempting to carve out some exemption or special consideration from the constant legal and legislative system challenges to weaken or eradicate any divine rights spelled out in our Republics founding documents the constitution and bill of rights should be seen as a a domestic enemy of the nation and its citizens . The individuals and groups using our very system of checks and balances must be meet with as much force as necessary to stop their aggressive moves against our freedoms . In defending the rights and privileges of Free American citizens there is no such thing as excessive force . Be cautious trust very few , especially those badge wearing minions employed by the state . Their allegence lays with those controlling their payment not with you the citizen they pledged an oath to protect and defend !

Having own all three, I’ll agree the FN FAL is the ergo-champ and in a class all its own. With that, there is not a feature, a curve, an ability that my M1A possesses that I do not cherish, and between the two, the greater range and hitting power is calming in its own right. That all said, when shtf and teotwawki arrive, and foraging for ammo is necessary, it’d probably be a good idea to have a weapon chambered in .556 that accepts common (ar-15) magazines. I would say the same for the venerated 7.62×39 and 5.45×39 piston operated weapons also.
