The Big Secret The Mainstream Media Doesn’t Want To Tell You About Americas Soaring Suicide Rates

Authored by Michael Snyder via The Economic Collapse blog,

This week two celebrity suicides rocked the nation, and neither of them seemed to make any sense.  Kate Spade’s handbag designs had taken the fashion world by storm, and she was supposedly living the kind of lifestyle that millions of Americans can only dream about.  And Anthony Bourdain was one of those rare journalists that was greatly loved by both the left and the right.  His “Kitchen Confidential” book is currently the #1 best seller on Amazon, and his “Parts Unknown” series was one of CNN’s most popular shows.

Why would people that seemingly have everything going for them decide to kill themselves?

Well, by the end of this article you will learn some things about suicide and depression in the United States that the mainstream media definitely does not want to talk about.  And all you have to do is to follow the money to discover the very disturbing reason why the mainstream media does not want to talk about them.

https://www.zerohedge.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/Suicide-Secret-Public-Domain.jpg?itok=_7IX1sYC

On average, 123 Americans commit suicide every single day, and now suicide has become the 10th leading cause of death in the United States.

But among Americans between the ages of 10 and 34, it is now the second leading cause of death.

Of course it wasn’t always this way.  Suicide rates used to be much, much lower.  If you can believe it, suicide rates in the United States “have risen nearly 30 percent since 1999” according to the CDC…

Suicide rates in the U.S. have risen nearly 30% since 1999, according to a report released Thursday from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Suicides increased in both men and women, in all ethnic groups and in both urban and rural areas. Suicide and “self-harm,” a category that includes attempted suicides, cost the nation $70 billion a year in medical care and lost work time, the CDC says.

The CDC says that rates have increased “among both sexes, all racial/ethnic groups, and all urbanization levels”, and so this is not just a trend that is affecting one particular demographic group.

And virtually all age groups are seeing major increases as well.  For example, hospitalizations for suicidal thoughts and attempts at children’s hospitals approximately doubled over a recent 7 years period…

At children’s hospitals across the country, hospitalizations for suicidal thoughts and attempts doubled from 2008 to 2015, according to a study published last month in the journal Pediatrics. The highest increases were seen among teens ages 15 to 17 years old.

Middle-aged Americans are also seeing a stunning rise in suicides.  According to the CDC, the suicide rate for Americans from the age of 45 to the age of 64 is rising faster than for the general population as a whole

Earlier research showed that suicides among middle-aged men and women climbed at a higher rate than the overall population. Suicide among men aged 45 to 64 increased 43% from 1999 through 2014. The suicide rate uptick was even higher among women in that age group, though more men died from suicide, the CDC said.

So why is this happening?

History tells us that suicide rates tend to go up during economic recessions, but we are not in a recession at the moment.

According to NBC News, researchers have found that people that kill themselves tend to have certain things in common…

  • 42 percent had a relationship problem
  • 28 percent had substance abuse issues
  • 16 percent had job or financial problems
  • 29 percent had some kind of crisis
  • 22 percent had a physical health issue
  • 9 percent had a criminal legal problem

But those problems have always existed in our society.

To find the truth, we need to go down a rabbit hole, and it is a rabbit hole that the mainstream media doesn’t want to talk about.

https://www.zerohedge.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/52fef523012665469ffbab6037af9c4b.jpg?itok=JuZ0s6ug

The use of antidepressants and other mind-altering drugs is absolutely exploding in our society.  According to Time Magazine, the use of antidepressants rose almost 65 percent between 1999 and 2014…

A new report from the National Center for Health Statistics shows that from 2011 through 2014, the most recent data available, close to 13% of people 12 and older said they took an antidepressant in the last month. That number is up from 11% in 2005-2008.

The most recent numbers have increased by nearly 65% since 1999-2002, when 7.7% of Americans reported taking an antidepressant.

And numerous scientific studies have shown that there appears to be a link between antidepressant use and suicide.  In fact, the biggest review of clinical trials ever conducted found that the use of antidepressants “doubled the risk of suicide”for those under the age of 18…

Antidepressants can raise the risk of suicide, the biggest ever review has found, as pharmaceutical companies were accused of failing to report side-effects and even deaths linked to the drugs.

An analysis of 70 trials of the most common antidepressants – involving more than 18,000 people – found they doubled the risk of suicide and aggressive behaviour in under 18s.

If you have ever been on any of these drugs, then you already know that they can really mess with your mind, and they can result in people doing some very irrational things.

In the case of Kate Spade, we do have confirmation that she was taking antidepressants.  The following comes directly from her husband’s statement

She was actively seeking help for depression and anxiety over the last 5 years, seeing a doctor on a regular basis and taking medication for both depression and anxiety.

We also know that Anthony Bourdain really struggled with depression as well

The television host also discussed thoughts of depression. In a 2016 episode of Parts Unknown, Bourdain traveled to Argentina for psychotherapy — something widely popular in the country.

“Well, things have been happening,” he says on camera. “I will find myself in an airport, for instance, and I’ll order an airport hamburger. It’s an insignificant thing, it’s a small thing, it’s a hamburger, but it’s not a good one. Suddenly I look at the hamburger and I find myself in a spiral of depression that can last for days.

Considering the fact that he had been dealing with incidents of severe depression for many years, could it be possible that Bourdain was also taking antidepressants?

If anyone out there can confirm this, please reach out to me with that information.

Of course the mainstream media is never going to address this link, because they do not want to harm their relationships with the big drug companies.

If you ever spend time watching the major news channels in the evening, then you already know that you are bombarded with one drug ad after another.  It is their major source of revenue, and they aren’t ever going to do anything that could endanger that.

Today, the pharmaceutical corporations spend more than 6 billion dollars a year on advertising.

So there are 6 billion reasons why the mainstream media does not want to tell you the truth, and because they won’t tell you the truth many more Americans are going to needlessly die in the years ahead…

When you report statistics using percentage increases, it can kinda make things seem worse than they are. If you accept the premise that 123 commit suicide every day, that comes to 44,895 people per year.
the 2017 United States population is estimated at 325,000,000. This means that only one person out of every 7,239 people commit suicide every year. This is a pretty small percentage, not that suicide isn’t an awful tradegy for everyone personally involved.

Don’t let mainstream Docs off the hook on this. Instead of doing sometimes exhaustive effort to determine causes, they ask a few questions, compare to symptoms of many possible conditions, and promptly grab the Rx pad.
Take a pill.
Your 20 minute exam or 60 minute session is over. I have many other patients and only so many hours in a day. Next!

Pehaps a more revealing question would be: “What caused a person with no history of depression or anti depressant use…to suddenly become afflicted with a very real, and stigmatized condition who needs help to emerge from it, and resume a fulfilling life?”
One possible answer:
Media stimuli overload of hate, negativity, death, ridicule, on top of financial struggles, trying to keep up with the Kardashians.

Maybe the anti Christian movement of post Christian America is having its effect.

Don’t shoot me because the link I’m giving you is from a Q supporter. That’s besides the point. Scroll down to where it has screen shots of social media from Bourdain (who I had never heard of) and his girl friend. Much weirdness was going on and they made no attempt to hide it.

Also included is a weird pic of Spade’s husband wearing a mouse mask the day after she died. WTF!

SUICIDE WEEKEND Weirdness. Come on up to the Lab. #Bourdain #Spade #Pizzagate #QAnon #GreatAwakening

Speculation is they were “encouraged” or maybe even “suicided”.

When you live an empty life, sometimes it becomes unbearable. Truly evil diabolical people rarely kill themselves. On the contrary they seem to live very long lives, Soros for example.

Ordinary people may be taking this route because of both an emptiness they can’t seem to fill, and combinations of anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds. Docs hand them out like candy. They have no idea how a patient will respond to long term use of these drugs. Patient keeps hitting a wall and they don’t know what to do. They sometimes will refer to a psychiatrist who is better at changing meds when they don’t work but they won’t ever be able to help you off of them. Ask me how I know. I could make an entire topic out of benzodiazapines and how much they are at least as big a problem as opioids.

Patient has some anxiety and docs hand out Xanax or something similar and it only takes 3 weeks or less to become addicted. They are harder to wean off of than heroine and have worse withdrawals because they are tolerable but can keep on tormenting you for weeks, months or years, not a week or so like heroine withdrawal. If you quit cold turkey, you risk even worse withdrawals and seizures.

“The biggest drug-addiction problem in the world doesn’t involve heroin, cocaine or marijuana. In fact, it doesn’t involve an illegal drug at all. The world’s biggest drug-addiction problem is posed by a group of drugs, the benzodiazepines, which are widely prescribed by doctors and taken by countless millions of perfectly ordinary people around the world… Drug-addiction experts claim that getting people off the benzodiazepines is more difficult than getting addicts off heroin… For several years now pressure-groups have been fighting to help addicted individuals break free from their pharmacological chains. But the fight has been a forlorn one. As fast as one individual breaks free from one of the benzodiazepines another patient somewhere else becomes addicted. I believe that the main reason for this is that doctors are addicted to prescribing benzodiazepines just as much as patients are hooked on taking them. I don’t think that the problem can ever be solved by gentle persuasion or by trying to wean patients off these drugs. I think that the only genuine long-term solution is to be aware of these drugs and to avoid them like the plague. The uses of the benzodiazepines are modest and relatively insignificant. We can do without them. I don’t think that the benzodiazepine problem will be solved until patients around the world unite and make it clear that they are not prepared to accept prescriptions for these dangerous products.” – Dr Vernon Coleman, Life Without Tranquillisers, 1985

See that date? They have known this in the UK since at least the 80’s and you can bet they know it here. The Pharm companies, that is. Makes them lots of money though.

Flea, I’m pretty sure they are still prescribing them for PTSD. There is only one way to get off of them. If you can find a psychiatrist that practices integrative medicine, they can be very helpful.

You and I both know that meds, regardless of whether they are natural or produced by big pharma, are just a band-aid. You have to confront your devils and ultimately only receiving forgiveness and with the help of Jesus forgiving others, will keep you off the pharmaceuticals.

Very good Mary ,drugs companies make tons of money. It’s in their interest for tens of millions to be hooked on drugs.

Well, right out of the box I must take exception to the following: “History tells us that suicide rates tend to go up during economic recessions, but we are not in a recession at the moment.”
No, we’re not in a recession, we’re in a Depression and have been since about 3rd Q 2007. If you don’t believe me, check in with John Williams at Shadowstats.
The number of suicides we’re seeing is just another nail in the coffin (pardon the pun) to dispute the “official” numbers.
What I think is REALLY happening is that people believe the official numbers and can’t figure out why they themselves are such losers. So they take antidepressants which may them even more suicidal or pissed to the point of going bonkers with a gun, a knife, a vehicle, or explosives.

I drive mom’s house about 4 times a day. That’s because she still works in the yard, even though she is virtually a cripple, and if she falls … well, just like the commercial says — she literally can’t get back up. She would die of exposure, or something. So, I drive by. And if she’s not outside I go inside to make sure she hasn’t fallen in the house. Her hearing is going so most of the time she doesn’t even know I’ve been there. I look, I see, I leave.

The reason I leave is because I just can’t deal with her anger, bitterness, and depression. Deep, deep depression. She literally talks about wishing to die and/or committing suicide every fucking day! She’s fucking with my head, my emotions, my life. You have no idea what it’s like to stop by a loved one’s home (yeah, in spite of it all, she’s still my mom and I love her … sort of) several times a day, and each and every time wonder whether or not you’ll find them dead. It’s not fun. Other than that, the yard is looking better than ever.

I read somewhere just this evening that, based on the drug company data originally hidden when Paxil was approved, but later brought to light in a lawsuit following the suicide of a user, Paxil users have a 6.7X increased risk of suicide compared to non-users. (Paxil is one of the SSRI antidepressants).

6X in epidemiological studies is generally considered strong proof for a causative link.

Worth mentioning, also, that major depression is clearly linked to lower serum cholesterol levels.

Modern medicine’s a wonderful thing, isn’t it?

It’s ironic and maddening that a drug (antidepressant) supposedly made to help you feel better and not depressed, is causing you to commit the ultimate act of depression; suicide.

I almost replied to this about an hour ago. News of suicide always affects me…

I have no doubt in my mind that the SSRIs are extremely dangerous, having fallen victim to them myself in the early 1990’s.

After a devastating marital breakup which ended in divorce, I found out what real depression can be like. I was one of those who always thought, “hey, snap out of it” about someone who was coping with the blues. This was something much deeper, much more overwhelming. I could literally “feel” waves of depression moving through my body, could barely ever sleep all night, couldn’t read for any length of time, and was barely functional. Daily life became a mountain to climb in every moment. I sought help.

Besides receiving counseling, I was given a prescription to Paxil. The first couple of weeks there was no change other than knowing that I was at least making an attempt to deal with my grief. By week three however, the “light” went on in my soul, and for the first time perhaps ever, I wasn’t depressed. Oh no, I was better than before. I had more energy, my dreams grew, the self inflicted barriers dissolved. Shyness & social discomfort disappeared. I felt truly alive for the first time in my life.

There were side effects. I could screw for hours and never have an orgasm. Good to a point, it’s not always desirable all the time really. More than anything, it was this feeling in your head that was never quite right. My personality really was different. A rosy disposition is fine, but I was becoming numb to reality.

Months went by, and the initial flood of joy become a darker sensation. The depression was gone, nothing bothered me about life, but little by little I was becoming just a shell of who I had been. The weird thoughts began to appear more and more. While I never ever contemplated shooting rampages or craziness like that, it was calling me just over the horizon. I’m telling you, these drugs are evil.

I took the hard way out. Cold turkey. I was a raving lunatic for two whole weeks. Wild mood swings, and anger would have probably described it best. It was years before I felt completely OK again.

In 2003 my son then 24 began taking Paxil. In 2004, he committed suicide. I’m convinced that it was the Paxil. There were of course, many circumstances (noted above) that were influential, but in the end I believe it was the drug companies who left a big whole in the lives of many who loved him.

I believe that if more people knew how devastating suicide is to those left behind, many would reconsider. Those same drugs cloud the judgement though…

There is no SCIENTIFIC evidence that any drug approved by the FDA as a primary depression treatment has any efficacy for that symptom cluster. I have read the primary and secondary research. It is all bunk based on flawed understandings of statistics and their application. Clinical evidence is even worse.

Off label use of stimulants and other catecholeminergic medications actually very effective for some people with depression symptoms, and its use is growing, but I think economics plays a huge factor in slowing research into those avenues. Drug companies want to keep profits on what is already on the shelves.
