Murphy’s Law to the Rescue!

Guest Post by Jim Kunstler

What can go wrong will go wrong. It’s so fundamental to the operation of the universe that Sir Isaac Newton should have installed it between his 2nd and 3rd Laws of Motion — but he had his hands full losing a fortune in Britain’s South Sea Bubble circa 1721, after muttering to a colleague that he “could calculate the motions of the heavenly bodies, but not the madness of the people.” Note to all you hedge fund cowboys out there: Old Isaac was probably smarter than you (and all the algos you rode in on.)

Was it a fretful Thanksgiving this year, a family feud of political recrimination with a lot teeth gnashing through mouthfuls of candied sweets? Well, yes, coming after the extraordinary fiasco of the Kavanaugh hearings and the disputed midterm elections, but the glide path to Yuletide looks kind of bumpy, too, so here’s a short bill or particulars of things tending to go wrong:

Ukraine verges on martial law after a naval incident with Russian ships in the waters off Crimea. Say what? Martial Law? They might as well declare a Chinese Fire Drill. Details of the actual incident in the Straits of Kerch between the Black Sea and the lesser Sea of Azof remain murky besides the fact that two Ukrainian gunships and a tug disobeyed orders from Russian ships to stand down in Russian maritime waters and shots were fired. Who knew that Ukraine even had a navy, and how can they possibly pay for it? But now NATO is trying to get into the act, meaning the USA will get dragged into just the sort unnecessary and idiotic dispute that kicks off world wars. Note to the Golden Golem of Greatness (aka Mr. Trump): this dog-fight is none of our goddam business. Russia, meanwhile, asked the UN Security Council to convene over this, which is the correct response. What could go wrong?

Yesterday, about five hundred Central American migrants rushed the border at Tijuana. The US Border Patrol tear-gassed them and they backed off. Bad optics for those trying to make the case for open borders. Naturally, The New York Times portrayed this as an assault on families, defaulting to their stock sob story, though the mob assembling down there is overwhelmingly composed of young men. Complicating matters, a new Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, takes over next Saturday, a Left-wing populist and enemy of Trumpismo. Tijuana is now choking on the thousands of wanderers who were induced to march north to test America’s broken immigration policies. What could go wrong?

Congressional Democrats are said to be “loading the cannons” with subpoenas for Trumpsters to get raked over-the-coals in a circus of committee hearings when they take over the majority in January. They’ll be matched by Senators firing back in hearings controlled by Republicans, setting up the worst political pissing match since the Civil War. In a fair universe, enough dirt would come out on either side to disable the most sinister forces of the Deep State — especially the seditious “intelligence community.” But life is unfair, as Jimmy Carter once observed and the exercise will only fan the flames of already-extreme antipathy. What could go wrong?

The engine pulling that choo-choo train of grievance is Robert Mueller’s Russian Collusion investigation. I expect him to produce mighty rafts of charges against Mr. Trump, his family and associates, and anyone who ever received so much as a souvenir mug from his 2016 campaign. But I doubt that any of it will have a bearing on Russian election “meddling.” And in that case, the charges will be met by counter-charges of an illegitimate investigation, meaning welcome to that constitutional crisis we’ve been hearing about for two years. That’s a mild way of describing anything from a disorderly impeachment to troops in the American streets. What could go wrong there?

Finally, there’s the elephant in the room with the 800-pound-gorilla riding on its back: the economy and its diabolical engine the financial markets. Anyone notice on the lead-up to Thanksgiving and Black Friday that the markets have been going south (and not on holiday to Cozumel)? Stocks are roaring back up again as I write. The TBTF banks and their ringleader, the Federal Reserve, have had a few days to engineer a rally, and the sharper it goes up, the more remaining “greater fools” will get roped in for eventual slaughter. Bond rates are charging back up too, meaning the price is skidding down. Bad combo. The poison cherry-on-top is Bitcoin, which has plunged about 40 percent in ten measly days to a 3000-handle and is headed to zero. So sad, as The Golden Golem might put it. It seemed like such a sure thing less than a year ago. What could have gone wrong?

What fun! A super shit storm comes when the dummo’s take the reins. I can’t wait. I’ll relish all the pelosi’s and schiff’s cramming it up the asses of repo voters. I will miss ryan though. When it comes to fucking over repos there just ain’t no beating him. He’s a one man enema. It has been fun watching all the dummo’s writhe in pain over the Orange Crusader but it’s time for a change of scenes in the Kabuki theater. Gotta keep the rabble occupied so’s they stay sleeping. But never despair repo’s the next “election of our lifetimes” is right around the corner.

“Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.”

And all taking place as we enter a mini ice age. I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Just keep you barrels of grain dry and they will last for at least 30 years.

The mueller investigation has become the cover to keep a lid on the impropriety of the democratic party, obama administration, US intelligence community (including great britain’s MI6), and of course the Clintons. It will be fun to see what happens when the investigation closes and all of the information that was held back is released. Obviously there are plenty of bad actors that should be in for hard times… maybe the investifation will go on forever?

I like that scene in Scent of a Woman where blind Al Pacino recognizes a dude’s voice and says, Mark, fuck you too! Mark has been nice enough to post an interesting article on DEWs. You read that, along with the linked article on Wagging the Moondoggie and pretty soon you don’t believe even the shit you didn’t believe before.

Thanks to Mark I am primed for the shit show coming down the pike. Will the Liar in Chief be impeached? You betcha! Why? Because that’s all the government is good for, a fucking shitshow to disguise the royal fucking over the public is getting and covering up the fact that there will be no social security for the millions of boomers hoping to retire, no jobs for the snowflakes graduating from college, no settlement for the scions of slaves, no greencards for the Guatemalan and Honduran caravan.

Thankfully, we have a war brewing that will put the shitshow on the back-burner. We can’t impeach a war president, can we? Georgie counted on that when he started the war in Iraq. But that’s lost it’s edge, we’re gonna need a bigger war to save Trumpy’s bacon. We start drafting people and pretty soon you’ll see the caravan heading back to Hondoland where at least they have a chance against the druglords.

” pretty soon you don’t believe even the shit you didn’t believe before.”

Made me laugh because I was thinking exactly that just yesterday.

“pretty soon you’ll see the caravan heading back to Hondoland where at least they have a chance against the druglords.”

If not war, then global cooling will send me crashing their borders. I’m still convinced a wall would be more effective at keeping us in then anything else.

I was wondering all afternoon why my ears were burning???

Then I stumbled across this EC rant.

I feel better now…for a while there I thought the CIA were using a low grade DEW on me…I was worried it would melt my tin foil hat!

Well, nobody carries a cane anymore but there are lots of women in the House now so maybe there will be a purse swung at someones head. Ever notice how heavy some of those big purses women carry around are? You could give someone a really nice conk on the head with one swing.

What is the idea behind the Ukrainian provocations?

Firstly, Kiev desires to create a precedent of the free, without obtaining Russian permission, passage of its warships through the Kerch Strait, which would confirm the allegedly existing rights of Ukraine for these waters, and at the same time it would confirm its claims to Crimea. After all, Ukraine can have the right to freely navigate through the strait only if Crimea belongs to it.

Secondly, Kiev means that Russia can counter the passage of its ships. In this option an armed conflict is desirable for Kiev. In such a case Ukraine can appeal to the world community and point to “Russian aggression”, which its ships and sailors became the “innocent victims” of.

Why does Kiev need to do this?

Ukraine needs the internationalisation of the conflict in the Sea of Azov. It is losing the standoff that began with the attack of the Ukrainian naval pirates on the “Nord” seiner. At the same time, contrary to the hopes of the government in Kiev, Russia works strictly within the framework of international law. I.e., in actual reality neither the US nor the EU have a formal reason to intervene in the conflict. That’s why all their statements sound like a warning against a further escalation. It is precisely for this reason that a further escalation isn’t needed by Russia, but it is needed by Ukraine.

The Saker also has a good post with an overview of the situation. It appears Poroshenko needed an ‘incident’ to impose martial law and potentially cancel the elections in March. With a poll rating of 9% he was unlikely to be re-elected. No doubt the US has another willing puppet to take his place.

The update to the linked posts says he failed to impose martial law for longer than one month.

To think Poroshenko has any autonomy in this decision would be high order folly.
As Kurtz put it best in Apocalypse Now…an errand boy sent to collect a bill for grocery clerks.
The whole Ukraine theatre has reeked profusely since Obama dispatched the spider, VJ, to execute regime change and grand larceny.
I recall stories of lil Biden placed in High Chancellorship of gaseous gold, perhaps progeny of Modified Face Kerry as well.

Here we go again. NATO including the USA does not have capacity to fight a war for longer than a few days at that location. The Ukrainians aren’t going to fight the Russians, they’ll get their asses kicked before NATO could come to help. I mean USA because NATO is a military force in name only. They are only able to take on militias in Serbia . The neo cons know that neither NATO nor the USA will accept more than a few casualties. Russia is not Serbia, Syria or Libya.
