Is this the Coldest Winter in 83 years?

Guest Post by Martin Armstrong

Vancouver, where it rarely snows, has had five snow storms this year. It has even been reported that snow has fallen in Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Now that is an extremely rare event by itself in addition to Vancouver.

The winter cold has been severe this year. It appears that we are heading toward this trend in the next 8.6-year cycle if we see this unfold again next year. Given the outlook for food prices into 2024, something just does not look normal on the economic front.

Meanwhile, it is now official. February has been the COLDEST month in 83 years! The global climate pattern is now transitioning from a global warming cycle, which peaked in 1998 on a long-term basis and 2015 on a short-term basis, to a global cooling long-term and short-term cycle. Both the Arctic and Antarctic entered the next global cooling cycle in 2015 and have been dramatically cooling during the past 3 years. In the UK, according to the Central England Temperature (CET), a record of monthly mean temperatures dating back to 1659, December 1890 was marginally colder, with a mean of -0.8°C. The data is available that demonstrates this is a cycle and it predates the Industrial Revolution.

In Arizona, the temperatures have broken even a 122-year previous record low.

Maunder minimum, bundle up buttercup. Humans deal much better with heat than cold and its going to get Mini-Ice Age cold the next 50+ years.

Here in Minneapolis, we have over 30 inches of snow – in February alone. There’s no place to put the fucking snow. The office I’m in today has snow drifted against the building and the windows – about 6 feet high. Added to that, many days go between 0 and 10 degrees. I remember a similar year 1980 or 81 – can’t be sure of the date. What’s worse, we’ve had several days when it starts snowing at 10 am – then it’s a real shit-show commute to go home..

The funny thing is that up until the polar vortex of late January the winter was fairly benign. Over Christmas I was in Michigan where it was 55 deg. We had drinks on the patio. Back in MN they got a rainstorm for Christmas. I thought it would be an easy winter. 8 weeks later and I’m looking at relocating to Costa Rica.

Global warming: unfalsifiable. No matter what happens, they want to tax you, regulate you, limit you to their means of transportation (if any), limit your diet to brown rice and lentils, convince you not to reproduce and eventually bar you from doing so.

Yeah, we had snow on the ground in Malibu and I had ice on the bird bath. It’s even freakin’ cold here in SoCal.

We will be skiing good snow in the Tetons in July and Painbrush canyon in August. The snow at the valley floor is more then I’ve ever seen it.

Random observations and musings on this topic…

1-Kind of jealous of those creative working stiffs who do it at home. either in their own shop, farm, or online.
Hope you have a generator, if online connectivity is vital to operations that are critical.

2-The South is looking more attractive as a snow bird destination, as I inch closer to scaling back on work loads.
Pity, that more southern States don’t eliminate State income tax. Fla is going to get crowded.
Relax, rebels. If I move down there, even for just a part of the year, I won’t bring arrogant Yankee baggage.
I’m a platform monkey with common interests, so, we got that goin’ for us.

3-Always amazes me to see questionable clothing by some, outside, in sub-freezing temps, wearing shorts, a T-shirt, and tennis shoes, while my skinny little ass is bundled up with 3 layers, a down coat, thick pyle socks, boots, a hat, and gloves.
Are they nuts? Or just fortunate, to not be affected by freezing cold temps?
And, I’m not talking about whales who are carrying body fat to keep them warm.
I’m almost jelly of these types; they don’t seem to let cold air affect them.

It’s too bad I don’t see any well developed adult women walking around outside in the winter cold, in tight fitting T-shirts, if you catch my drift. High beams are noticeable and kinda cute, even from members of the IBTC.
(itty bitty titty committee)

On colder days,
I’m reminded of one Airborne infantryman, huddled in a foxhole in Bastogne with 2 other guys in the middle of January, 1945.
He said “I’m shivering so fuckin much, I feel like I’m dancin!”

My plan: buy an extra chain and plenty of chain lube. An afternoon of cutting seasoned wood does wonders for a guy and his dog. Snow shovel works fine around the log pile. Home brew is reward enough at the end of the day. May tie some flies this evening.

This coming weekend, the forecast is high in the teens to maybe 20ish and lows in the single digits. That is the first weekend in March and those are 30 degrees below normal which is how the entire month of February has been running.. 20-30 degrees below normal for most of the month. The outlook for the first two weeks of March is not much better. What’s worse, I think we had maybe five days of sun.

Last year we had no spring. Literally, no spring. April was freezing and suddenly in May, 90 degrees. No transition at all.

I have a feeling that there will be floods galore because of all the snow up river.

I promised my husband better weather in Missouri than we had for thirty years in Oklahoma. Oops.

Five days of sun? You people in the northwest corner of the Mississippi Corridor (I’m promoting the new name of our new country, MC!) got five days of sun? We got thirty minutes a couple days…

I admit, this week has been nice. But, we’re cloudy again.

I grew up on a very low lying farm in flatlander country in the true bootheel of the state. The floods were always bad in the spring, when the deep thaws begin to cause the Current, Castor, Black and a myriad of other significant streams and rivers which wind and wend their way ever downward toward the mighty Mississippi, spilling over floodgates and sandbags into the newly seeded ground, where mechanized farming has eliminated any sort of flood protection from the natural lie of the land.

I think you are right. It will be a bad spring. I imagine the National Guard will be walking the Diversion Channel night and day, watching for breeches. Or is it breaches. At least I know it isn’t britches.

Am expecting my old military buddy recently retired. So, I am making sure bathrooms, kitchen and entry are clean. The rest is just clutter.

Perhaps face to face she will tell me more about what she knows from actually being in the room with people who proclaim to know what is really happening. Perhaps.

In North Dakota there is the Red River – it flows north, into Canada. With all the snow it will probably flood – again- . Snow melts in ND but the river is still frozen in colder Canada – so they have a flood. These moron’s built the town on a flood plane, and expect to get bailed out (sometimes every other year) by out taxes.

No shit. Last year we got a huge snowstorm in MN in mid-April. Then come May it was summer. At the rate we are going the snow we currently have won’t melt until May. I’ve been in my house 13 years now and I’ve never seen snow like we have right now. Granted my experience living in the north star state is but two decades but the past couple months have been by far the most arctic of any winters I’ve experienced.

“Atmospheric river events are now classified somewhat analogous to hurricanes. This atmospheric river is being categorized as a Category 3 event, meaning it’s not only beneficial for the state’s water supply, but also hazardous in terms of threats from floods and landslides.

The heaviest Sierra snow and low-elevation rain should fall through Wednesday morning. However, Sierra snow, and at least some low-elevation showers, should linger into Wednesday night and Thursday.

Those final snow totals are likely to be impressive, once again measured in feet.

Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service in Sacramento said parts of the northern Sierra could see up to 10 feet of snow into Wednesday.”

Atmospheric river? 10 feet of snow?

Nope!! Been a rather mild winter here in NJ.

===================================

“Statewide, the average temperature of 31.9° was just 1.2° above the 1981–2010 mean and ranks as the 35th mildest since 1895.

Snowfall averaged 3.8”, which is 3.4” below normal and ranked as the 44th least snowy January dating back to 1895.”

I can actually FEEL the global warming here. GW is real. And I’m scared to death.

“Wondering if it is bull of a real problem.”

Dr. Bresden in his book “End Of Alzheimer’s” says that there are “36 holes” which researchers have discovered that play a role in Alzheimer’s. The problem with all current Alzheimer drugs and protocols is that they address one, and only one, of these holes.

No one person with Alzheimer’s has ALL 36 holes. You can see the problem right away; some Alzheimer drugs work great for one person, and not at all for another! It all depends on whether or not the drug fixed the particular issue (hole) affecting that person.

In other words, it’s a crap shoot. That’s why I like his protocol which he names ReCODE. It addresses all “36 holes” simultaneously.

All that to say … YES, viruses are one of the 36 holes. That’s why extensive (and expensive) blood tests are part of that protocol … which Ms. Freud will be getting shortly.

Thanks for the link.

Stucky, oral health is also a potential pitfall. Use an oral irrigator daily. No bleeding gums. It’s a bacterial portal. They’ve shown oral bacteria in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients which suggests a relationship.

Hmmmm. People with blood clots often get warfarin (Coumadin) blood “thinner”, which makes flossing more likely to cause bleeding, which releases bacteria into the blood, which, following your thought might just have a relationship with Alzheimer’s. Thanks for posting.

Further off topic: was reading IBD article on Big Pharma’s response to the opioid problem. Some are re-formulating their opioid pills with (think Viagra) hard to cut geometries and polymer coatings that have been used to achieve extended release properties in other meds. One of the leaders has a patented coating technology that is in focus (Grunerthal, the German company that invented thalidomide).

There is concern that the coatings effect blood clotting (ouch for me) and possibly have a link to Alzheimer (double ouch). Have yet to find anything else definitive, though am looking as time allows.

The coatings have supposedly been around since ’60s; not sure when Alzheimer started getting formally recognized, but am wondering if there are two dots to connect here.

Link to general discussion of the coatings.

It is Winter in upstate NY.So Winter weather is to be expected, but this Winter seems to be a bit worse. It is almost March 1st,and it was -15 this morning. It is a bit late for that.Had that same sort of cold in November. That is what makes this feel like one of the longest Winters here in a while. It came so early. As I said in an earlier post. Monday here felt and looked like the Arctic Circle. I kid you not. It will warm to the 20’s tonight. With 5-8 inches more snow. There are some good things about living in the Adirondacks though. In Atlanta, we are looking at yet another winter without any snow. How depressing. We went basically straight from summer to winter with little to no fall, and basically very little winter to speak of. Sure, there was some cold, but nothing like we usually get. We have already had mosquitoes in the yard in early February. I’d be happy with some real cold and some snow.
