The Blind Leading the Deaf and Dumb

Guest Post by Jim Kunstler

You had to wonder why it took Nancy Pelosi so long to figure out that maybe impeachment was not the big rock-candy mountain that, for “the resistance,” marked the gateway to a Trump-free nirvana. It became obvious this week, through the release of the Bruce Ohr and Lisa Page transcripts, that RussiaGate was birthed entirely by persons in the employ of Hillary Clintion, with then CIA Director John Brennan as midwife, and the DOJ / FBI avidly assisting — all of them fully aware that the predicate was false. What’s more, the evidence timeline makes it clear that Democratic Party leadership, including Nancy Pelosi, knew it was false. Hence, the pained smile she’s been wearing these many months.

In the event of an impeachment proceeding in the House, all that would be revealed, especially if it got as far as a trial in the US Senate, where the defense is allowed to mount a case under rules of evidence. Imagine the howls of embarrassment on late-night TV when even ex-comedian Stephen Colbert would have to admit that he was gulled into acting as a shill for a seditious con.

I suppose Ms. Pelosi also made the calculation that any impeachment ginned up by the likes of Jerrold Nadler and Maxine Waters would be superseded by a slew of actual indictments among the above-mentioned former law enforcement officialdom, including perhaps former Attorney General Loretta Lynch and persons in the Obama White House. You might even include the enigmatic Robert Mueller, who appears to be liable for the destruction of evidence in his own inquiry, as well as malicious prosecution.

All the actual evidence in the public arena indicates that any “collusion” around the 2016 election involved agents of the Clinton campaign and US government employees, not Russians. Of course, it will not be so easy for Mr. Nadler and Ms. Waters to call off the committee exercises they’ve been rehearsing, but it will be fun to watch them pissing into the wind as the indictments roll out.

In his new book, Peak Trump, David Stockman called the RussiaGate affair “a Democratic Party Bereavement Ritual,” an excellent diagnosis. The breast-beating and garment-rending has gone on for more than two years, inducing a generalized hysteria that has made it impossible for this country to govern itself, and opening the door to some really serious mischief as the party’s new Jacobin wing sets up for the advent of an American failed state.

All of this is a prelude to equally serious tribulation roaring down the two-lane pike of finance and economy that will combine with the engineered destruction of institutional authority from RussiaGate to bring on the greatest crisis since the Civil War. The money is not there to perform any of the miracles of redistribution promised by AOC and Bernie Sanders — unless the Federal Reserve is coerced into printing a whole lot more money out of thin air, in which case the consequence will be that everybody gets to have a lot of worthless money that has lost its value.

If congress wants to play committee games, it might want to investigate how the USA is going to rack up another $2 trillion in debt to finance its operations before the 2020 election. They’re the ones who will have to vote to allow that to happen. The disorders of money coming down in the months ahead, RussiaGate aside, are sure to discredit both political parties. I doubt that Mr. Trump will survive it politically and the revenant Republican Party behind him is so devoid of credible leadership that it could dissolve altogether like an evening mist preceding the cold darkness of night. By then, the whole American political establishment will be, as Mencken quipped, like a blind man stumbling around a dark cellar looking for a black cat that isn’t there.

Hysterias don’t last forever, but the economic depression ahead will last a long, long time, and the nation will have to find some way to adjust to a lower standard of living. None of the nostrums currently in the air — the guaranteed basic income, Medicare for all, the Green New Deal — will avail to alter that fate. The big question is just how disorderly and violent the journey through that will have to be.

At least $21 Trillion known to be missing from our coffers. The news story of the past 250 years and not a mention of it on the news, in the halls of CONgress or the DOJ. Who, what, when, where, why and how? Meh, Beto is gonna run! Now that’s front page nnneeewwwsss!
Totally bankrupt financially, criminally, morally, spiritually……It’s so dystopian.

Nancy is no dummy. She is a skilled and shrewd political hack. She was raised that way from a young age by her father, the slimy Big Kahoona of Baltimore many years ago. She understands that the impeachment thing no longer has enough value to meet her goals-things like perpetual outrage being one of the biggies on her list.

Impeachment was never real, for her. In 2006, she ran the exact same plays … promising to impeach Bush if the Dems were put in CONgressional majority … it happened and she reneged. Last time I voted.

I recall back in ’09/’10 (MOL) there was more than one report of couriers being arrested/detained attempting to cross from/to Italy/Switzerland … carrying US Bonds of some nature, denominated in 10’s/100’s of Billions of Dollars.

I’m rooting for VERY violent and disorderly. Anything else is likely to be state managed.

Human nature demands nothing less; very violent and disorderly.

“Order”?

“Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” Tyson.

There’ll be no “order” at all, except that which arises out of chaos while fighting Tyson for the last drumstick.

“Violent”?

Suuuure, I can keep throwing thunder while Tyson chews my ear off. As soon as I finish this can of spinach.

Grid down is inevitable and not too far off. People will no longer vacillate between animal and deity, it’ll be primal.

And a very difficult environment for a conversation with one’s higher self.

Between HSF and Mr. kunstler, I’m tempted to start “..doing a little day drink’n” Sheesh! I am reassured by the precious metal stash, but as was pointed out in an earlier comment, having lost most of the weapons in a tragic boating accident on the mighty (muddy) Ohio, I suppose I can melt them down into sinkers for fishing.
I need to go read some “Q” posts and cheer up.

What’s this ‘republican’ party Jim keeps talking about? I know about the two wings of the uni-party, but actual Republicans… Maybe he means the Freedom Caucus? The smallest party in Congress.

Please note how as the PRICE of Debt (the US 10 year T-Note) surged from 1981 to 2016 (price is the inverse of interest rate as graphed), the quantity SOLD into the market skyrocketed as well.

This is 100% opposite of what Econ 101 supply-demand curves promise. It is open evidence that mass psychology, not reason or rationality, drive markets for intangible assets (like stocks and bonds.)

Bonds were in a bull market, so no matter how much money was borrowed, lenders (creditors) wanted MORE because the damned price was rising (because it was a MANIA.)

This is a perfect picture for inclusion in Charles Mackay’s 1841 book, Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds.

We’re DROWNING in debt even as the REAL economy on which the debt must be serviced is withering into nothing (after most manufacturing was exported.) Our entire economy is addicted to debt-fueled economic demand.

The question isn’t “what happens when the EBT cards don’t work,” it is “What happens when MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and the bond market don’t work.”

Don’t worry, be happy….tralalalala and so on.
I watched 2008 going down and felt first fear and alarm and then anger when I realized what a massive and colossal fraud had been perpetrated on the nation. Bernanke first lied and then admitted that most of the bailout monies numbering in the trillions went to foreign banks. Then Wall Street passed out the bonuses and Obama stimulated and all was happy, happy again.
We never recovered.
The notion of Civil War is bandied about, even and especially within the mainstream media. Why? There will be an economic collapse, it will be engineered to reset the debt and utter chaos will ensue. It will happen after the ducks have been lined up for either a new currency creation or the monied class has insured their security and safety. One doesn’t collapse the system without safeguards and protection.
Anyone with a brain knew the Russia Gate was a fraud from the get-go. Hillary was pushing it during the debates, watching her was watching indoctrination in its creation. ‘Russia, Russia, Russia’ she kept repeating over and over. That was the germination and the fruition was Mueller and the rest of the criminal anti-Trump Cabal. Pelosi knew it was a fraud, they all did but they ran with it and the real and stunning tragedy is how many brain-dead boobus Americanus believed the lies.

Bernanke wasn’t the only fraud perpetrated on the nation in 2008, there was also the ‘community organizer’. Both did deep, lasting, and massive damage from which we may never recover.

I read your mention of Hussein in the context of the bank/fed fraud on taxpayers. I meant his election & the way he was presented to the world by the presstitutes, without vetting & covering up his shady past. Complimentary comments?

Very good comment, by the way!

Kinsler nails this one. Trump wants to be impeached so he can trap the media into covering the facts.

One thing for sure, T is playing the game differently than predecessors. Love him or hate him, he certainly has the attention of lots of people.
