As someone who spent years in charge of a metrology department (calibrated measuring devices), I can tell you that many factors are involved with even temperature “accuracy.” To trust any measurement by any thermometer one should be able to trace that device back to a well-established standard, and records of regular (annual or more frequent), verification of accuracy against the standard. When we are talking about fractions of a degree of temperature differences, and then we are talking about data going back to the late 1800s, when measuring technology was different from today (mercury versus colored alcohol versus digital, etc.) then we are opening up a huge can of worms, without even going into the well-documented LIES and ALTERATIONS of the data. The data problem only gets worse if we are talking about thermometers in other countries, converting between Celsius and Farenheit, etc.
And nobody should EVER trust anyone with an agenda that involves TRILLIONS of dollars, and massive increases in government power and control over the economy.
