Off The Cuff

Via the Raconteur Report

“Piss on Hollywood, all of ’em. Haven’t spent a cent on movies in decades, will never again. Money wasted better spent on mags and ammo. Why give your money to people who hate you?”

Good question. How about this answer:

A) Because that’s myopic and self-defeating.
B) Because the underlying themes in most of the Marvel flicks have been root conservative themes.
C) Because good culture drives out bad culture.
D) Because one movie will outlast a hundred documentaries, a thousand books and essays, and ten thousand blogposts, penetrate straight to the roots of memory and consciousness, and wear furrows there.
E) Because movies are the uniquely American art form of the last century.
F) Because they penetrate into parts of the world where reading the Declaration of Independence or Bill of Rights out loud would get you shot or jailed.
G) Because yielding the medium to the lunatic communists is a recipe for losing it forever, and then the culture, and finally society and civilization itself.
How’s doing just that been working for you for the last 50 years?
H) Because (say it with me): politics is downstream from culture.

You give your money to people who hate you because they’re distributing your message to the ends of the world, and making it hip and cool.

And because your mags and ammo haven’t killed any communists, have they?

Shall I go on, or is that Baby Harp Seal of an isolationist argument dead enough for you already?

None of this should be news to anyone.

Cutting off your own nose to spite your face never kills the giant.

How about the fact that I have way better things to do than sitting in front of a screen captive for hours. Fk hollywood and the horse that rode them in.

If there is something you must see – go to the library to loan it out.

Besides, all the good cinema has already been made.

No one on the planet needs to see Shrek 17…..

A) Because that’s myopic and self-defeating.
No it isn’t. Supporting the enemy is myopic and self-defeating. If you are giving Hollywood money, you are wrong.

B) Because the underlying themes in most of the Marvel flicks have been root conservative themes.
But everything else about them is pozzed. They churn out poison aimed at children. Supporting them in any way is evil.

C) Because good culture drives out bad culture.
Really? What part of the cultural drain-circling have you not noticed over the past 75 years? Good culture driving out bad culture is exactly what NOT supporting Hollywood is.

D) Because one movie will outlast a hundred documentaries, a thousand books and essays, and ten thousand blogposts, penetrate straight to the roots of memory and consciousness, and wear furrows there.
This made the questioners point for him. Also, name a notable film from 1950. Now name a Greek classic.

E) Because movies are the uniquely American art form of the last century.
Who runs Hollywood? It is not Americans. The people running Hollywood hate Americans – this should be obvious to anyone watching anything Hollywood produces.

F) Because they penetrate into parts of the world where reading the Declaration of Independence or Bill of Rights out loud would get you shot or jailed.
Like New York? You have, once again, made the questioner’s point for him.

G) Because yielding the medium to the lunatic communists is a recipe for losing it forever, and then the culture, and finally society and civilization itself. How’s doing just that been working for you for the last 50 years?
Who do you believe controls the film industry?

H) Because (say it with me): politics is downstream from culture.
Again, you’re making the questioner’s point for him. Don’t support the people making cultural poison.

You give your money to people who hate you because they’re distributing your message to the ends of the world, and making it hip and cool.
My message isn’t being distributed by Hollywood – if your message is, you’re probably part of the problem.

Greetings,
How do we come to terms with any of this? Take Bill Cosby as an example. I certainly do not agree with his habit of drugging, raping and probably killing women. Oh yeah, I say “killing” because he isn’t really a doctor and I can’t imagine that all of his drugging’s went according to plan. Anyway, I can separate the good things that he did like Fat Albert and the Cosby show from the rapist. That said, I thought it was a mistake to Memory Hole his work as I now can not support the good side of Cosby.

I have a love/hate relationship with Hollywood as movies, just like Jazz are purely American art forms. When Hollywood makes a movie worth seeing then I support it in the hope that they will make more. Sometimes, though, the only part I am supporting is the soundtrack, the post production work or a single actor that I like. This is no different than paintings like the Mona Lisa. See, the Mona Lisa is not of a particularly attractive woman, doesn’t feature anything within the painting that is remarkable. I like the Mona Lisa because no one can figure out how it was made. There are no identifiable brush strokes and the paint, all 20 or so layers of it, are so thin that we’d have a very difficult time reproducing that painting today.

That painting is pure magic just like a great movie.

Death wish with Bruce Willis from a few years ago; not a great movie, but one that nails the moral rights of a citizen to take a stand, instead of being pummeled by SJW’s into the status of victim hood.

Movies today are a mostly a sewer, a cesspool. Either insipid violent / car chase / shoot-em up. The perverts that write these scripts are truly twisted. To top it all off – most are aimed at 16 year old audiences.

What’s the problem? Let’s see:

PC language
Muzzie sensibilities
Legalized drugs
Positive POC roles
Women’s Lib

Therefore, great movies like Bonnie and Clyde, The Graduate, French Connection, The Godfather, Prince of the City, Raging Bull, etc. could not be greenlighted now. Instead, we get Titanic and The Avengers. (Stop bitching about Titanic, it’s not The Getaway. It’s fucking Love Story on water.)

And you can buy movies two months and sometimes two weeks after they are released. I would rather lay here in my truck with my cat ( little bb ) and watch movies. No noises ,no loud teenages , no negros ,no one speaking 5 or 6 foreign languages and no spending money on sugar water and sugar cookies.

Yeah, I have Kodi too. I have used it for years. Unfortunately, (((they))) have pursued the streamers into the ground and now none of the addons work any more. People put up addon installation guides and within days the addons have been shut down. It used to work pretty well, but (((they))) now have it pretty much under control.

One thing that I did figure out though. Kodi gives you access to every single movie that is produced. Each year that is somewhere between 600 and 1000 movies. The vast majority of them are so badly done that they don’t bear watching even for free. By that I mean that you might get 3 good movies for every thousand movies produced by hollywood. That is a phenomenally bad success rate. And once they do manage to get a winner, obviously a surprise to them, they beat it into the ground until only the drones can muster the courage to straggle into the theaters.

As with anything else in (((bidness))), given enough time and typewriters, you can manage to create all of the worlds great movies. But you can’t create all of the worlds great movies when you want them because you can’t figure out what it takes to make a great movie. I guess you would call it the shotgun approach to making movies. But that doesn’t mean that you don’t have investors to keep happy so you have to resort to dishonesty like Disney did with Captain Marvel. They invested in the hype on their movie by buying tickets in theaters across the country. It guaranteed a block buster, the one thing that it had to be for the investors to shut up. And, if you are not in the industry you would never know that it happened.

The last movie my wife succeed in dragging me to (about 5 or 6 years ago…my first in as many years) the guy in front of me (one male in two couples) pulls out his frigg’in cell phone in the middle of the movie and started scrolling through it.

The sudden and unexpected ‘rude’ light almost blinded me in its unexpected distraction!

Instantly I leaned down and growled three words into his ear. My lips were as close as you can get without touching…my tone similar to what a crouched Jaguar in the rainforest makes just before snapping a neck.

“Turn it off.”

He froze…stiffened…and with great wisdom turned the bright ‘rude’ machine off…

When the lights came on neither he or the others ever made eye contact with me…and the four quickly darted back into the suburban rain forest.

I was waiting…in a tense crouch…my long suffering wife talking to me in soothing tones. She had been through this sudden drill before at another movie theater in 1977…different ‘rude’ reason…sudden violence had come into play.

No Country (or picture shows) for Old Jaguars…

My wife goes to an occasional movie…with one of her girlfriends.

I’m not sure what I despise and will not tolerate more…overpriced Hollywood propaganda or rude assholes.

Same here. I hate going to movie theaters, since some nitwit has to check his/her phone throughout the movie. I can’t afford to lose my job, which would occur if I participate in a fight in public. Not to mention that ANY remark to a vibrant, regardless of their offense, will result in an escalation…and I concealed carry, so I really don’t want to have to dirt-nap one of them unnecessarily…

I am a polite respectful man, was raised that way, but I’m considering buying concealed carry insurance. I avoid crowds…have for 50 years, but when I go to the city I look myself in the mirror and have ‘THE TALK’ with myself before I go out. If provoked, insulted or threatened I have a serious temper. I don’t want to end up in the courts…but I do not suffer fools or disrespect from anyone. I have no job to worry about…but I do not want to end up in the system.

I hate going north to NJ/NY where I have family. I feel naked not packing as here in NC I will have a .45 under the seat, a 9mm on me and my Kel Tec 2000 folded in half in a bag with 10 15 round mags in the bag for longer conversations if the need was to arise.

I’m also a knife collector and always carry at least one fighting knife…more if I’m up North.

I favor a good belt buckle push dagger.

I have a small fanny pack I wear to the city, in it I keep some powerful mace and three of the wipes made for removing mace as well spare mags for my 9mm, one pressure bangage and and a few small laminated plastic cards that I would give a Police officer(s) if I have to defend myself that reads:

“Defensive Shooting Guidelines for the Responsibly Armed Citizen
If I have given this to you, it has been necessary to take actions to defend innocent life. I am willing to sign a criminal complaint against the perpetrator(s). I will point out witnesses and evidence. As you may have experienced yourself this is a stressful and traumatic experience for me. Therefore, I wish to make no further statements until I have contacted an attorney and composed myself. I also do not consent to any searches. I will cooperate fully once I have calmed down and contacted an attorney. As a lawfully armed citizen I ask for the same corsetry that you would show a fellow officer who was involved in a similar situation. Thank you for understanding.”
