When intelligent, verbally acute narcissists start succumbing to continuing pressure they typically become paranoid, and then violent. The mechanism for this is reasonably straightforward.
Their pathology is expressed in grandiose self-images and imagined and great exaggerated accomplishments. When they fail to achieve their lofty goals, they start blaming others. Their narcissism turns malignant.
After all, in their minds they are fabulously talented and have never failed or even made a serious mistake. So if there is failure, it cannot possibly be due to anything that they have done, but rather the failure of those who work for them. And so there is a great deal of staff turnover.
And if the failures continue, there must certainly be some group that is sabotaging their efforts, in an effort to make them look bad. Eventually their rage and words translate into acting out, and violence, most often against critics, potential critics and scapegoats.
There might be an epidemic of this sort of thing in the Beltway.
And then the darkness comes.

Any working person has had to cross paths with narcissist fellow employees or managers . They are even more destructive when they are owners or the children of business owners .
Your ideas or methods can never be the right or correct path until weeks or even hours later it morphs into their idea and you should cheer for their innovation . Most people with real skills and abilities read the signs early in a company or organization and move on .
On this thought has Bill or Hillary Clinton ever been wrong or guilty ??? Now there is Narcissism compounded by 2 bags of shit for the price of a MILLON ….
When they finally get tired of pointing their finger at each other, they will focus on the real enemy.
It does appear that this time, the football will not be pulled away from Charlie Brown and there will be a reckoning of most, if not all the coup plotters. The liberals response will be either to admit defeat and slink away with their heads down, or the more likely outcome, to double down by identifying the deplorables as the ones who ruined their perfect plans and pour out their anger upon them.
Yes, I have been pessimistic in the past about any justice being served, but after two years of Russian collusion lies, the momentum seems to be shifting away from the elite, who have pushed their arrogance a little too far (wiped the hard drive? like, you mean with a damp cloth?).
Look at it this way, if the 4th turning is ever to manifest, it will have to begin with a confrontation; maybe this is the time for the fireworks to begin?

I still believe that the timing is endogenous, i.e., that the next Act in this tragedy will arrive on its own schedule and not one second before.
I watch the markets for signs that the underlying social mood driving complacency, optimism and (utterly STUPID) trust is finally rolling over.
So far, it’s still business as usual. The yield on the 10-year T-note is now below that for 3-month T-bills. No clearer signal of bovine complacency could be created.
For decades Americans have sat on their asses while their savings was turned into IOU’s and the prices for assets was bid ever-higher in a credit-inflation upward spiral. Complacency such as has NEVER been seen before spread like a communicable disease, and behind that fog came the parasites and congenitally-criminal class who took over politics and corporations everywhere.
2.41% to loan money over 10 years to a spendthrift with zero capacity to stop spending money it doesn’t have? Where a bout of fiscal discipline would probably cause a 40% contraction in GDP?
It’s insane.
It was insane 20 years ago (yet here we are.)
It appears it’s not over.
It could go much higher.
No one knows.
But it’s still an expression of collective insanity that far exceeds any historical precedent.
