Who Was Saul Alinsky?

Many of the tactics of the far left, the communists, were codified in a book published in 1971 by Saul Alinsky.  It is the playbook by which sneaky underhanded socialists attempt to wrest power from whichever ruling elite that they find themselves oppressed by.  You might suspect that this is hyperbole, but let’s take a moment to understand who this man was, and how he accomplished what he did.  For this I turn to the only authoritative source available to us today…Wikipedia.

Let’s start with a quote from his seminal work Rules for Radicals.

The job of the organizer is to maneuver and bait the establishment so that it will publicly attack him as a ‘dangerous enemy’. The hysterical instant reaction of the establishment [will] not only validate [the organizer’s] credentials of competency but also ensure automatic popular invitation.

And in his own personal acknowledgments;

Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom – Lucifer.

Saul David Alinsky (January 30, 1909 – June 12, 1972) was an American community organizer and writer. He is generally considered to be the founder of modern community organizing. He is often noted for his book Rules for Radicals (1971).

In the course of nearly four decades of political organizing, Alinsky received much criticism, but he also gained praise from many public figures. His organizing skills were focused on improving the living conditions of poor communities across the United States. In the 1950s, he began turning his attention to improving conditions in the black ghettos, beginning with Chicago’s and later traveling to ghettos in California, Michigan, New York City, and a dozen other “trouble spots”.

In the 1960s, his ideas were adapted by some U.S. college students and other young counterculture-era organizers, who used them as part of their strategies for organizing on campus and beyond.^[5] In 1970, Time magazine wrote that “It is not too much to argue that American democracy is being altered by Alinsky’s ideas.”^[6] Conservative author William F. Buckley Jr. said in 1966 that Alinsky was “very close to being an organizational genius”.

So, according to some he was truly gifted.  He rode this gift through communities across the nation organizing the underprivileged communities and in the end; he was so successful that he managed to die in Carmel by the Sea.  This means that he managed to somehow make a very good living out of organizing groups of people who were so poor that their next meal was often an uncertainty.  He was so successful that some cities actually enacted legislation to keep him out of their communities.  He was so successful that his impact reached all the way into the white house as Hillary Clinton wrote her thesis on his Rules for Radicals and Barack Obama grew up in Chicago and worked as a community organizer using Alinsky’s tactics.  He taught Alinsky’s tactics at the University of Chicago

Alinsky’s tactics are evident in our everyday lives.  We see them so often that they have become the water that we swim in, the air that we breath.  They appear every four years on our televisions and they are the tactics that are used in Supreme Court confirmation hearings and on the floor of congress.  They are used by the left and the right.  They were used by the tea party just as they are used by antifa.  They are the primary political tool of our times.  But what are they?  Well, take a look:

Lastly, the main theme throughout Rules for Radicals and Alinsky’s work was empowerment of the poor.^[5] Alinsky used symbol construction and nonviolent conflict to create a structured organization with a clearly defined goal that could take direct action against a common enemy. At this point, Alinsky would withdraw from the organization to allow their progress to be powered by the community itself.^[3] This empowered the organizations to create change.^[2]

The Rules

1. “Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.”
2. “Never go outside the expertise of your people.”
3. “Whenever possible go outside the expertise of the enemy.”
4. “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”
5. “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.”
6. “A good tactic is one your people enjoy.”
7. “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.”
8. “Keep the pressure on.”
9. “The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.”
10. “The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition.”
11. “If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside.”
12. “The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.”
13. “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”

These tactics are so ubiquitous that you see them every single day.  These tactics are used against you and you don’t even recognize them because you haven’t studied them.  But they are obvious once you are aware.

The clearly defined goal…the destruction of the oppressor class; you.

The direct action…using comment streams to obstruct the free flow of the conservative narrative.

The common enemy…You.

As you read through the list you can see clearly the tactics employed.  You can see why they employ them.  Almost every one of Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals are on display for you to see if you would only look.  These rules for radicals are the basis for the long meaningless posts.  They are the reason for the meandering diatribes.  They are not intended to educate or inform, they are purely intended to attack and destroy.  They create confusion among you to sow the seeds of your destruction.

You don’t have to study further but at least now you know how they work.  The rules that they live by.  The tactics that were taught by a president and a first lady.  Once you did not know.  Now you do know.  Armed with this knowledge, come to your own conclusion.
