I have over the past few days wondered what would happen if the crazy mass murders started picking off their targets from long range, one, two, a few at a time, instead of effectively committing suicide in one big burst. That would change the landscape seriously. Snipers are ALWAYS highly feared. They would cause enormous havoc. But they seem to go for the “out in one big blaze” scenario.
I have been asked, here in Oz, why the US does not just pass a law banning all the “military style” guns? I sez to them – who is going to go out and collect ’em? How many would be collectors would die in the attempt?
I tell them any attempt would be done only by SWAT teams in the dead of night, because the popo are never going to go around in ones and twos in daylight knocking on doors and asking pretty please can I have that there AR15 you have in your hand, mister deplorable?
And if they start doing that, then I would expect that there 1) would be a lot of civilians and police killed in those SWAT raids, and 2) that I would expect that police would very quickly no longer show themselves anywhere out of fear of being sniped. The powers that be may ban gun sales, and they may make getting ammo damn near impossible. But one thing they will NOT do is go around confiscating guns from the deplorables, as they will for sure and certain get their asses shot off in large numbers if they ever try to do that. China magnanimously volunteers to be the lead peacekeeper. What’s left of US military gets orders to do awful things and cooperate with hostile foreign troops; many of them defect, taking weapons with them. The amount of US weaponry that defects will likely make all the difference in who wins. If useful air wings, submarines and nuclear assets defect, then all foreign invasions are off and domestically it’s spicy time. If not, then foreign powers carve up the remnant US and make it a puppet, ala “Man In High Tower” style. There’s a remote chance our Anglo allies will step in to make the US THEIR puppet and not tolerate China/Mexico/others. That would be much better received by both US military and civilians than any other foreign invader. Who knows.

That was with 7.62×39. One trained marksman with a Barrett .50 BMG could do more than they did with only a magazine (12 rds) of ammo and be gone in two minutes or less.
Let’s split the difference with a .338 Lapua, carrying the .50 Barrett is just awful.
Barrett makes some good .50’s but they’re heavy and so expensive they’re out of the affordability realm for most normal humans. Given what I’ve seen of the owners, though, I doubt any finished rifles would stay in the showroom if SHTF. I’d think many of the specimens would be “lost” in a major boating accident.
As crazy as it sounds, .50 BMG is cheaper and more widely available than .338 Lapua. .50 has regular 660 grain M33 along with AP and I believe from Norway(?) Raufus exploding rounds and SLAP (Sabot Launched Armor Piercing) rounds that will launch a big heavy .30 cal AP projectile at I think 4-5,000 fps.
My only problem is .50 BMG hurts your ears 100 yards away and the shock wave is hard to miss. There was a Ma Deuce at our club in May. It was set up for 3 round burst. Folks got to shoot it for $15 or $20 bucks a burst and keep the brass. I know two guys with the 107’s and while I would seek them out in a serious situation, I can’t tolerate much more than one of my Harrington Richardson Garands regardless of what hearing protection I have on.

News and entertainment belittle us constantly , Hollywood has used the format of the wife and 9 year old daughter keeping us from destroying the house replacing a light bulb or burning down the garage starting the lawnmower thanks to the thoughtful input from the gay couple next door !

In the last few weeks I’ve had the opportunity to talk to about a half dozen different “true lefties” about the predictions of Chittum’s “Civil War 2” in the framework of the Fourth Turning. To the very last one, their reaction was all the same – an immediate amused dismissal which quickly turned to a visceral disgust. Reading between the lines, what was repulsive to them was not the idea of conflict, but rather that conservatives won’t just tolerate an oppressive yoke at the hands of a demographic defeat. Do not underestimate the desire of the left to lord over everyone.
Folks,I like this article and most of Aesops writings,at times disagree with him but that is life.
His writeup and list on making IFAKS though is excellent,while this article good I would say hit his site(I suck at bringing up articles!) and read it.The writing has a list including suppliers/a list of videos for those who need to get introduced to using the items ect.,I used this as a blueprint to make up some for folks who otherwise would not,now they are a little ahead of the game and have actually taken the interest in learning some basic med skills further.
I feel all should have a IFAK in car/home/worksite ect.,for me personally this was the best article I have ever read by Aesop(your results/opinions may be different!),so,read it!
