Lost at Sea

Guest Post by Jim Kunstler

In these horse latitudes of late summer, with the seas becalmed and the riggings a’creak, the Resistance’s ship-of-the-line (a.k.a. the Democratic Party) drifts ever further out of sight of land. Even so, a few of its crew members have jumped ship: New York’s mayor, stowaway Bill de Blasio, may have been shoved overboard. Former Colorado Gov. Hickenlooper walked the plank clutching the lifebuoy of a sure-thing senate seat. Washington State Gov. Jay Inslee went mad drinking seawater and dove in after hallucinating a school of beckoning mermaids. Months from now, the accursed vessel may be discovered mysteriously deserted, prompting tales of mutiny and cannibalism, like the brigantine Mary Celeste of legend.

That’s how lost and far out the Party looks more than a year from the general election. Back on dry land, the resourceful Golden Golem of Greatness made another flanking maneuver around the Resistance’s left, disarming the so-called Flores Rule from 1994 that underlay the racket of using children to evade the immigration laws. Now the kids can remain with their parents awaiting deportation, which is the natural consequence of sneaking across the border illegally. The Resistance cannot grok the reality that federal law actually applies in cases of border-jumping. Shrieks of “racism” rise from coastal yoga studios and cappuccino bars. Uncle Sam is racist through and through, from his run-down boot-heels to his chin-whiskers.

The New York Times, America’s journal of double-plus good-think, is proving this week with its “1619 Project,” that the NBA is actually the legitimate governing body of this land, contrary to the racist document purporting to be the “constitution.” How many three-pointers could that roly-poly little math freak, Ben Franklin, shoot? Don’t you understand that the Civil War was fought over the attempt by damnable whites to suppress basketball, The Times imputes. Can’t anybody play The Star-Spangled Banner blues anymore in its original form as a field holler, before that cad Francis Scott Key stole it and quashed all the flatted notes?

Elizabeth Warren set the stage for anointing herself America’s Race Hustler-in-Chief by addressing the niggling matter of her former claim to be a Cherokee Indian, since disproven by a DNA test. There was loose talk, you see, that she used the Cherokee ruse to bamboozle her overseers on the Harvard Plantation, where she got to work in the Big House known as the Harvard Law School based on her “diversity” bona fides — a “minority hire!” The claim was so transparently idiotic and dishonest that she was desperate to walk it back as delicately as possible, in order to keep up with the race hustling of her fellow pols chasing the nomination. A rain dance was arranged in the aptly-named heartland town of Sioux City.

Like anyone who’s being honest with themselves, I know that I have made mistakes,” said Ms. Warren, who was met with a standing ovation when she took the stage [The Times reported]. “I am sorry for harm I have caused. I have listened and I have learned a lot, and I am grateful for the many conversations that we’ve had together.”

Was a more disingenuous political statement ever contrived? A bundle of devious platitudinous promises of the sort that white people always offered the indigenous folk at a thousand crooked treaty councils? It would have been a little more satisfying, perhaps, if Ms. Warren had specified the mistakes made, e.g. I was falsely claiming a racial identity for career advancement. Now that’s an apology! “Listening and learning?” I dunno… sounds a little like groveling and pandering. Anyone can choke down a few bites of humble pie but please don’t make me eat that shit sandwich!

The Democratic contest may be peaking way too early. And Joe Biden hasn’t even had a chance to claim he is the out-of-wedlock grandson of W.C. Handy. There are indications that the political center is already a little tired of the Everything-Is-Racist trope that the party ran up the flagpole this summer. For The New York Times, it became the publicly acknowledged official editorial slant when newsroom chief Dean Baquet announced that the paper needed a replacement for the shredded gonfalon of RussiaGate.

That move by Mr. Baquet has more than a little quality of whistling past the graveyard. When the summer is over, ill winds will be blowing the SS Resistance close to Reefs of Durham and Barr, when many of the ship’s officers — Ensigns Brannen, Clapper, Comey, Lynch, McCabe, and many others, perhaps even Admiral Obama — start perp-walking around the deck. What a mighty embarrassment that will be. The cry that “mistakes were made” won’t salvage party’s reputation as it founders and sinks. Glug glug.

“Anyone can choke down a few bites of humble pie but please don’t make me eat that shit sandwich!”

There are times when JHK hits one out of the park, and this is an example. Couldn’t be better said.

Hope he’s right about AG Barr, but in keeping with the baseball analogy, I fear he’s planning to bunt with no one on base. If in the end nothing is done about the Russiagate conspiracy, then for my money, all bets are off. Every day in the USA becomes Wednesday on the old Mickey Mouse Club. Older card-carrying members of that venerable institution will remember that Wednesday was “Anything can happen day”. This old guy would prefer not to think what forms “anything” might take.

I think you’re right. The “anything can happen” part was what stayed with me. Truth told, I didn’t watch the show that often. My favorite was Andy’s Gang owing to the presence of an all-time favorite: Froggy the Gremlin.

Can’t speak for Tom, but you’ve got me right: I’m 73 and still remember that Mouseketeer Annette had…. But there are ladies and young folks present, so I’d best keep that memory to myself.

Born in 49…I was glued to the The Mickey Mouse Club on the TUBE.

I fell in lust with Annette…and her amazing televised alluring puberty…I didn’t even know what the word meant at the time…but she made all of me sit up straight.

Everyone in every generation goes in different directions…but when I saw it I realized this is where my Boomer boomerang Mickey Mouse theme song came back around…

I like the Eric Peters articles mocking electric cars, although I don’t think I’d understood until recently how necessary the continual mocking is. All of the democrat presidential candidates have come out squarely in favor of the “Green New Deal” (or something similar). The only one who has been at all reticent is Biden and that’s probably just because he can’t remember if he’s for it or against it. Bernie Sanders just rolled out his version of the Green New Deal. It’s “only” 16 Trillion over 10 years, with a lot of the money used to pay people to trade in their outlawed gasoline cars for electric cars. It’s insane on so many levels that it deserves its own epic mocking, but I’d always figured that there’s no way any such thing could ever make it through congress. That’s true, but I’d forgotten how much a Democrat president could fuck things up through executive orders. The democrats aren’t just ridiculous, they really are dangerous.

The Kochs are pure establishment. The old man built oil refineries for Stalin. Then he helped start the John Birch Society. David was supposedly some far right ogre but lived in New Yawk and was part of the social scene, supported human embryo experimenting, pro abortion and most of the rest of the Prog agenda. He opposed Trump and wanted a RINO squish. He was conservative if that means being for lower taxes for rich fuqueres, but all rich fuqueres are for lower taxes for rich fuqueres. He and his brother (there are four brothers but these two are “The Koch Brothers”) are each supposed to be worth $41 Billion. David and his brother seized control of the family enterprise in a nasty court battle against the fourth brother and David’s identical twin. So, don’t worry, there is a replacement on the shelf.

Convicted felons in San Francisco may have broken the law, but they’ll get to keep their dignity after the city’s Board of Supervisors adopted new, sanitized language describing them as ‘justice-involved persons’ or ‘formerly incarcerated.’

Under the city’s new “person first” language guidelines, the words “felon,” “convict,” “addict,” “offender,” and “juvenile delinquent” are no-no’s. Instead, those who have paid their debt to society will be referred to as a “returning resident.” Those on parole will be known as ‘persons under supervision.’

And a juvenile “delinquent” will now be known as a “young person with justice system involvement,” or a “young person impacted by the juvenile justice system,” according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Drug addicts are now “a person with a history of substance abuse.”

“We don’t want people to be forever labeled for the worst things that they have done,” according to Supervisor Matt Haney.

According to the resolution, 1 of 5 California residents has a criminal record, and words like “prisoner,” “convict,” “inmate” or “felon” “only serve to obstruct and separate people from society and make the institutionalization of racism and supremacy appear normal,” the resolution states.

“Inaccurate information, unfounded assumptions, generalizations and other negative predispositions associated with justice-involved individuals create societal stigmas, attitudinal barriers and continued negative stereotypes,” it continues.

“We want them ultimately to become contributing citizens, and referring to them as felons is like a scarlet letter that they can never get away from,” Haney said. -San Francisco Chronicle

I’m assuming this is not from the Babylon Bee. To think taxpayer dollars are used to pay the people who dream up, write down and codify this rank silliness. Twenty per cent of CA residents with a criminal record–Whoops! “Persons previously naughty” perhaps–is a truly frightening statistic. One wonders what the stat is in Chicago, Baltimore, DC, but…

A lot can happen in the 14 1/2 months until the 2020 election, and the dims are just posturing without showing much of what they will claim to offer-they are being patient and are letting their stupidity rule the news cycle. The big question is whether they can get serious sometime in the early fall of 2020 and offer what voters want.

On the flip side, the voters have an incredibly short attention span and need to be entertained frequently.

In other words, a lot of smoke but no fire. Seems like a lot of that’s been going on.

Carry on.

Once a candidate is determined, the shift will hard to the right. They know they can say anything and still keep the leftist voters, but to win, they have to capture a chunk of the center. I expect Trump to run ads with them, in their own words, telling America what they want to do to us. Specifically, showing the video with all of them raising their hands for giving health insurance to illegal aliens.

Here is food for thought, is Trumps plan only to marginalize and not penalize the liberals for past crimes?

Will everyone get off scott free, but new rules established that the coup that failed may never be attempted again?

If this is true, I’m pissed but maybe in a generation this may have been the right approach. But one things for sure, the 2020 election will be essential if the culture is to be changed; if the democrats make it in by hook or by crook in 2020, the vengeance they will take on the deplorables will be a bloodbath.
