Eric Holder to 2020 Dems: Tone Down Immigration Rhetoric or Lose

Guest Post by Joe Guzzardi

Every week, immigration stories demonstrate how frustratingly elusive, even after decades, common sense reform that would benefit immigrants and citizens alike remains.

A recent story sampling: sustained border surges and inadequate enforcement have pushed the immigration court backlog to an impossible-to-process 1 million-plus cases; illegal border crossings hit a 12-year high as border patrol agents detained 851,000 foreign nationals during fiscal year 2019, and a $1.5 billion Indian outsourcing firm, Mu Sigma, abused the rules that govern the B-1 visa but paid only a token fine, with its executives inexplicably avoiding criminal prosecution. The B visa expressly denies work permission, but nine scheming Mu Sigma executives nevertheless helped set into motion about 400 jobs for individuals not employment authorized.

Once in a rare while, however, a story appears that restores hope. One such story is “Holder Reminds Fellow Dems that ‘Borders Mean Something’” The former Obama administration Attorney General and an advisor to the California legislature, Eric Holder, is committed to higher immigration levels, and to a comprehensive immigration reform amnesty. Few public officials have more disdain for President Trump than Holder.

Yet in a CNN interview with David Axelrod, Holder told his fellow Democrats, and especially the 2020 presidential candidates who support decriminalizing illegal crossings, that “borders do mean something.” Holder also reminded the candidates that President Obama had “robust” deportation totals as well, even higher than the Trump administration and that existing immigration laws have been on the books “for about 100 years,” and should be honored.

Holder even trotted out talking points normally associated with enforcement advocates. Here are some he ticked off: Having a secure border, wanting to vet who comes to our nation and protecting the American people shouldn’t be a left versus right issue. Secure borders should be an issue everyone of us agrees on. We’re a nation of laws. People need to respect those laws, especially if they want to become American citizens. Our government has an obligation to protect the American people first. And part of that protection means securing our borders, just as every other nation in the world does.

Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and former Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting director John Sandweg concurred with Holder about the folly of abolishing borders.

Other prominent Democrats have also sounded alarm bells about the potentially fatal, electorally speaking, empty promises to dissolve borders. One of the most visible decriminalization critics is one-time Obama administration immigration policy advisor and previous National Council of La Raza, now Unidos US, Senior Vice President Cecelia Muñoz. According to Muñoz, decriminalizing unapproved border crossings would make it harder for Democrats to combat President Trump’s populist appeal.

Perhaps other Democratic candidates will emerge. But this particular group appears tone deaf to likely voters’ immigration sentiments, and they proceed at their own peril. A June Gallup poll showed that a record high 23 percent named immigration as the public policy issue that most concerned them, the highest level since Gallup first mentioned immigration in 1993. About 35 percent of Americans want immigration decreased.

The more years that pass, the more likely that Americans will want less immigration. The Census Bureau projects that future net immigration, the difference between the number coming and number leaving, will total 46 million by 2060, and the total U.S. population will reach 404 million. From 1990-2017, immigration grew the U.S. population by 43 million.

The current crop of Democratic presidential hopefuls doesn’t realize it, but an open borders platform is a loser.

Immigration and the illegal assault by the Democrats on the Presidency will assure the President of another term. No doubt about it.

Yeah, don’t remind the voters that you didn’t do anything in the eight years you were in power. Instead of legalizing immigrants, they legalized Wall Street crime. Bastards.

All the democrats need to do is unsay everything they’ve been saying the last two years and hope no one notices and that none of it was recorded.

Let’s see – open borders, ban fracking, grab guns, outlaw cars that use gasoline, ban commercial aviation and raise taxes. Good luck with that. Meanwhile the guardians of the culture – Hollywood and academia – are encouraging children to change sex and whipping everyone into a tizzy about what the weather will be in 100 years. Because that’s totally normal.

The democrats can win using the same strategy that Trump used to win. Promise the American people something and then don’t deliver. Promise to build a wall (60 miles of new wall in 33 months is not building a wall, it’s intentionally stalling the process), give no amnesty, scale back or eliminate H1B and H2B immigration systems, etc, etc. Remember Trump intentionally waited until the mid term elections to get the border wall funding because he new beforehand just like anyone else that there was a great chance the dems would take the House.

His son in law and daughter are as left wing as it gets and he serves as an advisor, imagine that shit! Jared and Ivanka want an open borders policy and work to get just that. Trump is a true democrat at heart!

Why do you think he hasn’t made any moves to lock up Hillary yet? You voted for Trump and you got Hillary! This is the cognitive dissonance of Trump supporters. It’s great tasting koolaid isn’t it?

2020 will be the last year Democrats even have to pretend to try to win. After that, demographics guarantees it. Too bad Trump didn’t stop immigration and “send them back” like he promised in 2016. The DNC should send Hillary out on stage to hum a tune, then we can all say the fat lady has sung.

11 million was so yesterday. How about 30-40, with drivers licenses not able to read signs in English. And the only reason to get those licenses is to be able to vote. (and work under the table for rich conglomerates). Cancel your white hard working ass vote. Why fucking bother anymore. If Trump wins, it will be the last Repub in our history to win. Love him or hate him, I’ll take him for now. Anything that pisses off the bolsheviks, I am in.

Deport ALL illegal aliens within 48 hours of detainment. If they name their home country, let the military send them there, in C-130 transports with necessary restraints for the violent / criminal. If they refuse – air-drop them (with parachutes, whether or not they know how to use them) into unfriendly countries like Iran, North Korea, Congo (con-go, get it? You’re just jealous you didn’t think of it first!) or Venezuela. If really violent / child-molester criminal types – air-drop them OFFSHORE, with or without parachutes.
You have to make illegal immigration unpalatable before it will stop, wall or no wall.
