I just cut down a papaya tree and now I know what to do with it.
I’m going to mount it on a 20′ shipping container with steel brackets, not cheap duct tape, and then sell the whole thing as an Art Deco ‘tiny house’ for $1.2Mil . I just have to get it to Silicon Valley or London.

I remember just before the Nikkei collapsed the Ponzi schemes flourished. A small group would pool some money and buy a painting to use as collateral for a loan to buy stock which would then be used to buy more expensive paintings to be taken to a different money lender as collateral for another loan at about 5 to 1 to the price of the paintings. This money would then be used to buy more stock on margin ad nauseam. When the market had a large drop and margin calls went out everything froze up and the market started dropping faster because everyone was afraid to buy or sell. They wouldn’t sell because it wouldn’t cover the margin and they wouldn’t buy for fear of a further drop.
Goodness, didn’t they ever hear of QE? Just print the money, deficits don’t matter.

They printed like mad but to no avail. One difficulty involved was the number of every day joe’s or Tanaka Sans who were involved in creating little funds. Like the old line about the shoe shine man giving stock tips. In addition, The wife traditionally manage the finances(so much of oppressive men) and young stock brokers would go door to door selling Mrs. Yamamoto stocks. There are rumors that they were just back door boys with a brief case but they were good salesmen. Of course the loss of face involved in admitting losses would mean falling on a sword, which was not uncommon. This all caused the seize up. Over here they just flip you off if you want your money back. There were more than a few brokers to the Yakuza who had to learn how to write with their feet.
Bigger Fool Theory (BFT) states that market value goes up when the sale price is higher than the purchase price. In a crash, all prices are down and the bottom is outside the realm of imagination. It takes a while for people to come back and buy paper from even the most conservative companies and after that it’s game on til the next crash. Except today it’s the robots buying and selling. It’s all automated. People are mere commodities.
