QUOTES OF THE DAY

“The fact was that American enterprise in the twenties had opened its hospitable arms to an exceptional number of promoters, grafters, swindlers, imposters and frauds..”

“At best, in such depression times, monetary policy is a feeble read on which to lean.”

“In the autumn of 1929 the mightiest of Americans were, for a brief time, revealed as human beings.”

“The values of a society totally preoccupied with making money are not altogether reassuring.”

“The autumn of 1929 was, perhaps, the first occasion when men succeeded on a large scale in swindling themselves.”

“Wall Street’s crime… was less its power than its morals.”

“Financial capacity and political perspicacity are inversely correlated…Here at least equally with communism, lies the threat to capitalism. It is what causes men who know that things are going quite wrong to say that things are fundamentally sound.”

John Kenneth Galbraith

“The financial industry doesn’t lubricate the economy. To the contrary, it is both a huge parasite and a massive anchor that drains more than one-third of ALL corporate profits out of the real economy. To put this in perspective, the total amount of all retail trade profit was $154 billion in 2018. The total amount of all transportation and warehousing profit was $55.6 billion. The total amount of all food, beverage, and tobacco profits was $50.5 billion.

The total amount of financial profit was $448.3 billion, and that almost certainly understates it. If you want to know what is wrong with the economy, the answer is “the transfer of profit to the financial institutions” which is done through ever-expanding debt. This is why either a debt jubilee or mass defaults and the total collapse of the US economy is absolutely inevitable.” Vox Day

oh nonsense. it’s all about scope. for most people (including those here) if it’s going well for them then everything’s good and fine, if it’s going bad for them then everything’s evil and wrong. and they’re quite serious about the “everything” part, because in their minds they themselves are “everything”, and anyone who talks about anything else is just noise.
