SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
SMC, nkit, Austrian Peter, and Steve C.

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

JOAQUIN RODRIGO & JOHN WILLIAMS Concierto de Aranjuez (Adagio)

I present you Joaquin Rodrigo, and the Adagio movement from his Concert de Arunjuez.

Featuring an exceptional classical guitarist named John Williams.

The Romeros do a version of it too, but this video is of great quality.

Starts off slow, and builds to an incredible climax that should bring goose bumps to some.

Try to isolate the different orchestral instruments during this piece, and see which ones you can identify with your ears only.

Love this piece.

Last week an error occurred in my listing for nkit’s ‘Triple Play’ in which ‘The Mission’ was deleted and another piece by Ennlo Morricone was in its place so…

Here is nkit’s ‘Triple Play’ the way it was supposed to be.

(You will need to hit ‘Watch on YouTube’ for ‘The Mission’ to work.)

A triple Play

Sometimes I like to color outside the lines. So, here I go again on my own.

I want to submit a triple play, all composed by the great Ennio Morricone (who is now 91 years of age.)

A renowned trumpet player, composer and conductor. He was known for his scores of spaghetti westerns such as the epic “Once Upon A Time In The West” starring Henry Fonda. Charles Bronson and Jason Robards in 1968.

He also scored the famous spaghetti western titled “The Good The Bad And The Ugly” starring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach in 1966.

I want to bookend these pieces around his great theme from the motion picture titled “The Mission”.

The bookend pieces are both played by the Danish National Symphony under the direction of the lovely Sarah Hicks. Special attention should be paid to the voices of Tuva Semmingsen and Christine Nonbo Andersen on “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.”

“On Once Upon a Time In The West”, Hans Ulrik plays a haunting harmonica while Tuva lends her beautiful voice once again.

In the middle of the sammich, Morricone conducts his own beautiful score of the theme from “The Mission”.

People should especially note the beautiful melody from the First Oboe on “The Mission”, and to provide historical content to “The Mission” is that Morricone conducted the music of this 1982 film that starred Robert DeNiro, and Jeremy Irons and Liam Neesom, with the Munich Radio Orchestra.

Tear jerking as it can be, it draws thousands of heartfelt comments. Sit back and enjoy the genius of Ennio Morricone.

I hope that you enjoy.

And here is nkit’s post for this week…

Antonio Vivaldi – “Summer” Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor, Four Seasons, Ospedale della Pietà

This is a piece titled “Summer” (Violin Concerto No. 2 in G minor) written by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741), a virtuoso violinist, teacher, composer and Roman Catholic priest. Born in Venice, Italy, he is considered to be one of the greatest Baroque composers.

This performance is Andrzej Kucybala conducting the Stanislaw Moniuszko School of Music Orchestra in Bielsko, Poland on 9-21-2016.

The lovely solo violinist is the incredibly talented Agnieszka (if I have another daughter, I’ll name her Agniszka), Uscinska. (those Poles can tear up a perfectly fine alphabet).

As an aside, watch her fingers on the fret board from around 3:00 to 4:00 especially around 3:36..amazing..

At any rate, check this out.

Tchaikovsky Nutcracker Suite Op 71a

Sinfonia Rotterdam – Conductor Conrad van Alphen.

SUPERB even more than before sir!!!
From Morricone, to Vivaldi, to the Boogie Woogie.
The choice of the Vivaldi performance is a great one.
Boogie Woogie with two pianos obviously more better than one!
